Coldplay's classics like The Scientist,Yellow,Fix You etc. are all great pop rock ballads despite being pretty simple Amazing Day is just so bland and cliched it sounds awful

Not awful but very boring and predictable. Coldplay are becoming a parody of themselves now, if they already hadn't.

I would write something cutting but the song's so dull that it doesn't inspire the required anger for me to do so.
A sad end to a once great band.

They need to go away for awhile and come back with some tunes. The last two albums have been very forgettable.

The worse the producer is, the worse Coldplay get.
Paul Epworth on the last album I think? He's the go to man these days for bland MOR music. Which Ghost Stories was - aside from Midnight which was excellent, I don't think it's no coincidence it was produced by Jon Hopkins.
Stargate for this next album I think - well, seeing their track record of pop stars, it looks appalling putting the fear into all of us for what is in store.
Brian Eno was hands on with Viva La Vida and what we got was a very eclectic and at times very experimental body of work (including all bonus tracks and b-sides). He was only merely assisting with Mylo Xyloto with Markus Dravs taking more control of that one (his CV is hit and miss hitch aptly describes that album). The right producer gets the best out of them as songwriters like a good football manager who gets the best out of his players. Ideally, I wish they'd make one with just Jon Hopkins on board. The bits and pieces he has worked with Coldplay on in the last 7 years have been impressive but I feel Chris Martin's ego would rather see them break up now rather than concede stardom and mainstream superiority for genuine musical ambition. That's what happens with you hang out with fuckwits like Aviici, Beyoncé, Jay Z and Rihanna I suppose - sucks all talent away from you!

People often overlook all his hard work on Viva La Vida. He basically co-produced that album with Eno. His contributions to Mylo were the more straight forward ones like Hurts Like Heaven and Charlie Brown. A lot of cooks were in the kitchen for that album.

I like Dravs, mainly as you say through his work with Arcade Fire - I was just thinking about his work with Mumford & Sons (nothing against them, but they are not my thing). The problem with Coldplay today is they are just sentimental now. To quote Radiohead, 'Don't end up sentimental/It always ends up drivel' and that's how I feel about Coldplay today. People say they have always been sentimental, but I disagree. Sentimentality is being emotional for the sake of it, and it seems they are now very conscientous of their past in trying to create emotive music and I don't think you can convincingly contrive such feeling. But there is a difference. I don't believe their best work was sentimental at all - it was emotive, but not sentimental because there was genuine sincerity there with their music. Now they are just overbearing and overcompensating.

I don't want to sound predictable with "that's dreadful" but that is really awful. What a dirge. Two words: Self. Parody. Oh yea, and it also sounds like someone reworked Everybody Hurts by R.E.M., but made it 10x more heartfelt, except in a completely boring and soulless way.
