Up&Up is the "new" single. No b-sides or bonus tracks. Fucking assholes. What's the point of even releasing singles in this day and age if: 1. You can buy any album track individually. 2. There's no b-sides. 3. It's only a digital release.

The only thing that pisses me off more than modern day Coldplay is their new stupid ass fanbase. Excuse my language.

"Stood on the edge, tied to a noose, and you came along, and you cut me loose." - Amsterdam, 2002. Written by Chris Martin.

"If you want to know the key to success in showbiz, it's sincerity. Fake that and you've got it made!" - Bob Monkhouse
Can't help but feel this applies to Chris Martin.

I wish Coldplay would want to sound like Radiohead again. The mid section of 42 screams post-Kid A and Parachutes is full of Bends/OK Computer sounds.

I listened to that song this morning, and even though, imo, it ends a little too quickly, it was quite a lovely tune. Chris's delivery accentuates the beautiful and haunting, but great, lyrics that talk of the nature of life & death, and how they go hand-in-hand with each other. Can't find that kind of brilliant stuff on AHFOD...

Usually songs have a couple of seconds before vocals kick in. I find this to be an issue on a couple of Viva tracks. Maybe I'm crazy.

Plus, the atmospheric intros, like on Cemeteries of London and Violet Hill, also give off that impression for some songs, and Viva la Vida's strings come in pretty quickly, as well.

Fuck yeah! 42 is my favorite song on VLVODAAHF and definitely in my top 10 Coldplay songs. The build-up is incredible. Though I must agree with Lennon2217 and World71R when they say that it's too short. Almost feels like a radio edit! The abrupt intro could be solved, though, by taking the instrumental and looping the piano riff under Chris's singing and placing it at the beginning.

I've just listened to "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends" for the first time in a year or so.
Fuckin' hell, what a superb album it is! I still can't believe that they went from sheer brilliance to poppy cheesy garbage in little more than 7 years.
I believe that Violet Hill was released for free around this time of the year back in 2008... great memories of great times!

It's the way that not only CMs songwriting that has went down the shitter but also his artistic integrity and self esteem. I still struggle to think they're the same band I saw around 12 years ago and were brilliant and I had hopes that they could eclipse U2.

I still struggle to think they're the same band I saw around 12 years ago and were brilliant and I had hopes that they could eclipse U2. Don't really think Coldplay has seen their demise, they just sold out to the forgettable commerical pop crowd of the new decade. When you have Love To (EDIT: Tove Lo, who really cares!?) on your album that tells you all you need to know. I stated awhile back how it is shocking that the same guy behind tunes such as: Brothers and Sisters Amsterdam Crests of Waves I Bloom Blaum I Ran Away Violet Hill Cemeteries of London 42 Spies Trouble A Rush of Blood to the Head and a host of others, in this decade, has written: Hymn for the Weekend A Sky full of Stars Amazing Day X Marks the Spot (Almost forgot about this filth! seriously wow!) Fun is frightening and sad at the same time. The guy had alot of talent, his favorite bands were Radiohead, the Verve, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Smiths, REM - and now...he and the guys are putting out albums like A Head Full of Dreams. Yet... they're still making a crap ton of cash and have a new, deplorable, fanbase full of the Snapchat generation young girls that record and stare at their phones throughout concerts. What the hell. Coldplay was the last link in my opinion between the classic indie rock of the 90s and today's generation...and they broke it with Mylo Xyloto, as soon as that Princess of China song was released. When Chris started hanging out with Jay-Z's music industry leeching piece of sh*t groupies spelled the warning signs.

Writing saccharinely safe pop tunes doesn't make you more relevant - it just turns you into a self-parodist.

Fun is anything but.........fun. If people asked me for a song tha sums up Coldplay losing the "plot", Fun is on the shortlist.
