Is it Chris Martin solo album time yet? Or would it already sound like both Ghost Stories and A Head Full of Dreams?

Well if it's anything like Magic, Midnight, O, Ghost Story, A Head Full of Dreams, Birds (without the abrupt ending), Everglow, Adventure of a Lifetime (without the Woo-hoos), and Up&Up (wow that's not a whole lot of songs...), but with better mixing/mastering on the AHFOD tracks, I'm ready for it.

Let me know when Coldplay go hard rock or something that peaks my interest in them.

Even though just under half of the tracks on the album is alright-to-good, the tour's setlists are absolutely fantastic. www.setlist.fm/search?query=tour:%28A+Head+Full+of+Dreams+Tour%29&artist=3d6bde3Politik, Shiver, Midnight (albeit on playback), and a cover of Heroes have all become regulars, while Green Eyes, Us Against the World, Til Kingdom Come, A Message, Don't Panic, In My Place, Speed of Sound, Trouble, Parachutes, and a cover of Ring of Fire have all appeared at one point or another, specifically in the C-Stage portion of the show.

No one has ever said Coldplay don't kick ass live. They are like U2, Oasis and Pearl Jam became once the calendar flipped in the year 2000. Very mixed albums and great tours.

Do you mean the giant leap in decline of quality, or do you genuinely like both?

Do you mean the giant leap in decline of quality, or do you genuinely like both? I mean how the cool, talented, alternative rock band that made A Rush of Blood to the Head would turn, within just over a decade, into a meaningless global brand, making superficial teen-pop with Rihanna and Beyoncé.

Well said. I watched about 20 seconds of the second video you posted and had enough. Then watched The Scientist for the first time in ages and was captivated all the way through. I often wonder if the reason they produce all this new shite is because they're afraid to back to their old style, in fear of losing fans and money. Such a shame, and such wasted potential. The nail in the coffin for me was when that CGI chimp was dancing to some branded music product in one of their new videos. Watch that video, then watch the video for 'Yellow' as a comparison. F.ucking unbelievable lol.

F.ucking unbelievable lol. I've always loved the video for "Yellow", it's so simplistic and beautiful. Granted the reason for that is at the time the band were nobodies and had no money so that's a cheap video but it does work wonders. A home run effort. This is back when I thought Chris Martin was going to be this generation's Thom Yorke/Jeff Buckley hybrid. That never happened. Now he's the British Adam Levine.

This was always my favorite Coldplay music video:
Basically, it epitomizes everything that today's Coldplay wouldn't dare attempt. Black and white, mysterious and dark, slinky, etc.

Black and white, mysterious and dark, slinky, etc. That's all well and good, but what about the gorgeous pop star looking all sultry for the camera? You aren't ever gonna hit a hundred million views on YouTube if you don't get the latest pop diva who's "so hot right now" to star - scantly clad and gyrating, of course - in your video.

Plenty of tension, but with a sense of style and swagger that restrains itself perfectly to make for something great.

I loved a rush of blood to the head, but I haven't heard any other songs of theirs (save for some singles). I got free tickets from a raffle to one of their concerts (first time they come to my hometown) about a week ago, and it was probably the most enjoyable show I had been to this year. can't say much about ahfod though - in comparison to how it was played live, the studio versions pale. I love up&up though.
also, having them play "in my place" was a real treat. it was a one-time only and it wasn't played elsewhere on the tour so far - it's my favourite from its album.

Heard "Hymn for the Weekend" for the first time today. Holly shit... it sounds like the kind of shite you could hear by any variety singer, here in France. Awful, really.

After listening to Up&Up and Birds in the past couple days, and hearing the muffled guitar solo on the former and the awful distortion caused by clipping all over the latter's climax, I seriously hope that Coldplay doesn't consider working with Stargate again, and I hope that they (Stargate) don't mix/master/produce another pop rock album.

Have been the only one this whole time who's been thinking Yellow is about suicide?

Have been the only one this whole time who's been thinking Yellow is about suicide? Everything's Not Lost/Life is For Living is about not committing suicide. I thought Yellow was about a girl.

Everything's Not Lost/Life is For Living is about not committing suicide. I thought Yellow was about a girl. Yeah, I always thought it was about unrequited love so strong he killed himself almost happily. I don't really know where I got this from, but the lines "I drew a line", "For you I bleed myself dry", "Oh what a thing to do" etc...seemed to suggest it. Those lyrics show how much Chris was good at songwriting. Basically meaning he'd kill himself to be with her, and the distance between them is so apparent. He wouldn't dare write something as edgy as that today would he?
