Never thought I'd say this but Coldplay bore me.

You know the one that used to be Yellow, Clocks, Fix You and Viva la Vida? Yeah, that. Quite staggering watching the video for it just now, they've actually gone and plonked Beyoncé in there, wearing all traditional native attire (apart from the front of her dress, of course) of Brazil or India, or wherever the fuck they are, you know, like they had Rihanna dress up as a Chinese princess for...er...The Princess of China. Why are they not getting roasted for this?! Completely copying something they did a few years ago (which was shit when they first did it anyway), they Martin should be getting absolutely slaughtered in the press for so obviously chasing commercial success by pulling the very same trick again.

To be fair, there was controversy both times of cultural appropriation, basically a bunch of white dudes from Devon pretending to be incorporating Asian culture when really they're just showing a load of cliches and going "Oh, these crazy Asians...whatever next?". The front of Beyonce's dress is the only reason to bother with either video tbh, they're both utter dross. It amazes me that there's people who's job it is to come up with this stuff. Whoever was behind the videos for The Scientist and Strawberry Swing (below), that's real creativity. How long did the director here stew over ideas before going "Oh fuck it, let's just ponce about in India."

Coldplay lost their balls in 2008. Bear trap?

They played Speed of Sound in my store tonight. Nice break from overplaying Adventure of a Lifetime.

Why the hell did Noel appear for a few seconds on the clip at the nme godlike genius award?! Couldn't even make out what he was saying.

They played Speed of Sound in my store tonight. Nice break from overplaying Adventure of a Lifetime. I've always wanted to hear what Coldplay wanted Speed of Sound and the rest of X&Y to sound like. It's Chris' least favourite released Coldplay song, I believe, because he said they recorded it all wrong and implied they caved in to pressure from EMI - leaving us with a song that could conceivably get a job as a Clocks lookalike. He also said with the rest of Coldplay albums, they end up with something that's about 95% of what they set out to make, but X&Y is only about 60%. I bet they wanted something a lot spacier and rockier - i.e Square One, White Shadows, Low, Talk, Twisted Logic - but were forced to tone down the space elements and include more standard "Coldplay-ish" songs like What If, that version of Speed of Sound, The Hardest Part, Swallowed in the Sea etc...

The other day someone said that my singing voice sounds like Chris Martin's.
Half a decade I would've taken this as a compliment.

Embarrassed to call myself a Coldplay fan these days.
Truth is I got hooked with their nervy, melancholic indie rock when I was a teenager. Chris Martin has turned into an absolute fucking clown. If I ever have the chance of meeting him I'll look him dead in the eye and call him out on being the biggest fucking sellout in modern music. Well done Chris, you pissed all your songwriting talent away.
So disappointing.

Did you think that Coldplay would ever make something worse than Mylo Xyloto? They did.
Did you think that Coldplay would ever make something worse than Ghost Stories? They did.
Do you think that they will ever make something worse than AHFOD? I'll let you answer that question.

So, why did you let it go?" Then do what you want to do since I completely agree. VLV was an amazing beginning of the end, while MX was alright, and GS okay, but AHFOD's a complete fall from grace.

Travis once again proving that you don't need Beyonce and other pop yawns to create feel-good, happy music:

Travis once again proving that you don't need Beyonce and other pop yawns to create feel-good, happy music: Just looking at that youtube picture, I'm not clicking it. I don't like it when decent bands make 'happy' music. I didn't like Stereophonics recent album cos it was too upbeat for me tbh. 'Graffiti On The Train' was fantastic though.

I sort of agree with you about the Stereophonics album: I enjoyed it but Graffiti on the Train was so much better... and mainly because of its darker atmosphere. My favorite songs from Keep the Village Alive are Fight or Flight, Let Me In (which are very far from being upbeat and totally sound like GOTT outtakes) and Sunny (while the lyrics are "happier" it still has a darker mood).

Yeah Let Me In is good and the acoustic version of I Wanna Get Lost With You is great. Better than the album version imo

Three Miles High is the best track released so far.

EAO stood out to me because it was something new, fun, and at odds with pretty much everything they've ever done! Like Achtung Baby, if you will. Something that they ought to explore more rather than making The Man Who pt 50 billion. But I suppose that's what they do best ha ha. Still looking forward to the album!

Fran really needs to sort his look out. The "old man" stuff just doesn't suit him.
