matt, I pretty much agree with everything your saying. Especially the hired hands and label stuff, I mean i don't think anyone is claiming that Adele or Swift are legit game changing artists. Taylor in particular seems to be a marketing genius, where as the people around Adele (Record companies) seem to market her well. Thing I like about Taylor, more so than with Adele, is that she's willingly to take risks. Adele is blessed with an outstanding voice but she makes dull music watered down soul/r&b music. Taylor can't sing nearly as well but I respect the fact she tries new things with her music. That said i don't think its fair to call Taylor a "fad". She's been an A-list popstar for at least 5-6 years now, I'd say Britpop (aka Oasis) was more of a cultural fad than Taylor is. That doesn't mean i think her music will last longer, but she is relevant culturally and musically right now and has been for a while. I think she's written a couple legit tunes that will stand the test of time, but who knows. Think the other thing that bums me out about coldplay and The Escapist kinda brought it up, is that its funny in and of itself that we are even comparing these three artists. Just goes to show how insanely far Coldplay have slipped. Its not a reach to discuss these three anymore because they all operate in the mainstream, and have huge $$$ behind them. I only hear that Coldplay song on ESPN of all places, and its funny that their just as corporate and empty as some of the popstars people hate on. People who are holding out on them to make something artful musically (and I'm one of them) are kinda delusional. Its like Dad-pop. A fad is overstating it, and she will continue to succeed for years to come, but at the moment you can't even open a broadsheet newspaper without seeing her and the hype is relentless. Once she becomes just another mainstream pop star with all the rest, then I might not be so irritated! Hahahaha trust me I feel you on that overexposure that man. When i lived in Nashville (2010-2014) it was like that everyday. She lived about 2 miles from me and apparently shopped at my nearest grocery store/cafe (shame I never saw her). When I lived there her name was brought up at least three time a day, no lie. Her and the city have an interesting relationship, especially now that she's a popstar, but yeah overexposure sucks and I despite her "charming" persona she's definitely a ruthless/savvy business women. Definitely puts up a huge front, in order to sell records and appeal to society but who am I to judge? I don't know her.

Taylor will be on the next Coldplay album and get ready for that Taylor/Adele split EP in 2017!!!

Travis could write "Birds" in their sleep. It's OK but nothing amazing.

The song "Birds" is like Arcade Fire doing The Strokes on Coca-Cola The last minute or so of Birds reminds me of the chorus in Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes, particularly the vocal melody.

It used to be that I'd always say my favorite bands were Oasis, Radiohead, and Coldplay.
Now I leave out the last one because nowadays it's shit.

After listening to Mylo again, I realized that while its where things started to go downhill, its still solid with (in my opinion) the last set of really good Coldplay tunes:
The Best: Hurts Like Heaven Charlie Brown Every Teardrop is a Waterfall
The Good: Don't Let It Break Your Heart Us Against the World U.F.O Major Minus
The Mediocre: Princess of China Up In Flames Paradise
The Bad: Up With the Birds (This is a poor album closer, like Twisted Logic)
The mediocre category seems to be where they began to go downhill a bit. Princess of China still destroys Hymn for the Weekend.

While it does try to be like Viva la Vida and The Scientist, it has a unique feel to it, and when it gets to the chorus, it just comes alive. To me, Paradise sounds like Coldplay fully instilling VLV's art rock nature into their sound while experimenting with some electronic stuff, and coming up with something really good.

It's probably just me having heard it countless times over the radio through the years. It is a good song but a bit overproduced at parts. Princess of China could've been better without so much synth and that crumbling dubstep soundwall. It's probably the best thing Rihanna has done in her whole career.

the live version of everglow is amazing, quite emotional, not so keen on the album version, sounds more like a demo in comparison.

Does Chris Martin voice really annoy anyone else on this album? I don't know what it is but it's sounds scratchy and horrible and really grates on me, is it autotuned?

Every band that Coldplay used to be associates with (Oasis/Noel, Travis, U2, Radiohead, Muse, Embrace, Elbow, Doves, etc) are now all far superior to them. I didn't think they would rank so low on the alternative rock band scene, but here we are and they are just terrible compared to them all at the moment.
