I'm fucking done with this band. I and many others in their core fanbase have defended them for years and how do they repay said fans? Releasing generic, banal pop rubbish and doing duets with the likes of Beyonce and Ariana Grande. Saddest thing is these lad's still have it. Only last year they released these two songs and I thought they were back on the right track:
and they decide to leave these songs off the album?!
Seriously, Coldplay are on a suicide mission to completely destroy any semblance of integrity they have left.
Coldplaying.com is even worse nowadays, people wanting to put your head in the guillotine for even suggesting that lyrics like "drink from me, I'm thirsty. Let's get drunk and high" aren't very artistic. Any older fans who are still stuck on this band due to the emotional investment they have put in over the years are contained to ONE thread and any time a negative opinion is shared on the site, said poster is told to go to that thread and even then you get occasional attacks in said thread complaining about how evil we all are. The fanbase has been completely hijacked by Taylor Swift fans and "directioners"
Chris Martin, go fuck yourself! Sell out.

Well, I must say that, as bad as it is, AHFOD has done one great thing for me. It has shown me how great MX and GS are.
Seriously, despite all of its flaws, MX is a much more fun album than AHFOD, and its songs have ten, actually make that twenty, times the energy and freshness. Hurts Like Heaven was a perfect energetic opener, Paradise a beautiful pop song, Charlie Brown the "stadium rock" moment, and Every Teardrop an upbeat anthem. And let's not forget the lovely acoustic songs, overproduced as they may be. AHFOD, on the other hand, tries so hard to achieve the charm of Mylo, but instead sounds overly polished and manufactured.
And GS might have been an experimental masterpiece were it more focused and not so densely produced. In retrospect, GS was a great move for Coldplay: a softer, more stripped back album that was uncharacteristic of Coldplay's usual excesses that would challenge the Bieber fans who hopped on after hearing Princess of China. The only problem was that its desire to also be an accessible pop album ruined the experimental nature of the album. But that's not to say that it's not evident in some places, specifically Midnight and Another's Arms. Get that shitbag ASFOS off and even the rest of the songs seem vaguely adventurous, even though their production would have you believe otherwise.

Update:
A Head Full of Dreams: 8/10 (This one has grown on me and gets stuck in my head, even though there is that annoying layer that makes the song feel like an ASFOS-like dance track.)
Birds: 7/10 (Down a point. Crescendo, damnit, don't just say "Cool" and then end!!)
Hymn for the Weekend: 0/10 (This song can fuck off.)
Everglow: 7/10 (Pretty little tune. Not the best, but it still has some redeeming factors, and is very catchy. It comes alive in a live setting, where the song is an 8.5/10 imo.)
Adventure of a Lifetime: 8/10 (When this song starts, it feels like it's really gonna go somewhere, and it does, but you just can't hear it with Chris's annoying bits at the end that cloud up Jonny's fantastic playing. Anywho, this was a great pick for the lead single, and is what a party song by Coldplay should sound like.)
Fun: 7/10 (Catchy song. It has a Duran Duran vibe to it, and Tove Lo's backing vocals sound really nice. Once again, like in AOAL, Jonny has some tasteful licks and carries the song well, despite being quieter in the mix. Two things I don't like is how it transitions from verse to chorus (a bit too cliche) and that final line that makes me cringe.)
Army of One: 2/10 (See HFTW)
X Marks the Spot: 1/10 (See HFTW)
Amazing Day: 6/10 (There's a nice, dreamy atmosphere to this with the strings and guitar riff, but it doesn't hind the fact that it is a bit of a boring song with poor lyrics. It tries really hard to be a Coldplay anthem that combines the best of The Scientist and Paradise together, but it just falls really short.)
Up&Up: 10/10 (If Coldplay makes another album, they need to go down the path they went on to make this song. This stands up against some of the band's best work, and is a great, uplifting anthem that has some cool Oasis vibes to it. All of the band members are present in the mix and it's a triumphant moment in an album that is far from triumphant.)
5.6/10; Down from a 6.4/10 ten days ago.

Mylo Xyloto's songs should've consisted of the same kind of melody and lyrical representation from the 2nd half of 42. A pop-friendly and fun melody over depressing lyrics. Reminds me of that classic Stone Roses effect.

It sounds crazy, but I think they'd be able to pull it off well.

I know I'm late to the party, but here is my review of this album! Up&Up: And just when you thought that this album was going to be a complete disaster, THIS comes on!! Un fuckin believable. By far the best song on the album. Noel's guitar solos are very nice, and give it a Champagne Supernova vibe, and while it doesn't quite reach supernova heights, it is a Coldplay anthem for the ages, rather than just a hymn for the weekend. Wow. Just when you thought that this band had no more talent. I hope the band closes all of their future shows with this awesome song. How chuffed were you when you wrote that bit? You just know you're a hardcore Oasis fan when you manage to get the name of a house Noel Gallagher once owned, into a review for an album by a completely different band. I doff my hat to you, good sir!

Dyou know I quite like Simon Pegg and I quite like Christmas Lights for what it is, a syrup Christmas song but fuck me, how insipid and tepid as a band can you get? They're literally one step off 1D now. I remember seeing them live 15 years ago and they were a million miles from what they are now. What a joke.

What is with the production on this record? Production on Ghost Stories was largely great. This record sounds like I'm hearing it through a wall, like someone next door's playing it too loud.
But I'd imagine Coldplay fans would be very considerate with their decibel levels

Amazing Day is the Sunday Morning Call for Coldplayers. Generic and boring. I like Sunday Morning Call, which has lyrics that are leagues better than the saccharine garbage Amazing Day contains. SMC is still dark as hell.

Well, I like the first minute of Sunday Morning Call...but overall, the best part of the song is when it ends.

It is miserable to think this band actually used to be this good over 6 years ago.
