Amazing Day might be the most boring song ever. Yikes!

Yeah I partly agree. The first half is commercial fodder (not to say there are some good tunes there) but the second half which Danger Mouse produced is much more U2ish and genuinely the most interesting they've been in a long time. They still know how to crank out a potential radio hit single. - Song For Someone - Every Breaking Wave 10-15 years ago those probably would have been hit songs. Now...................not so much. They're also the best live act in the world by far. They eclipse everyone live.

Difference between Bono and Chris Martin is that Bono had about 10 albums before he desperately wanted to ditch creativity for commerciality. Martin dropped the ball from Mylo Xyloto onwards. About the same stage of their career as U2 were with Pop, and I know which album is miles ahead. If Coldplay had a hint of that ambition they may still be decent. U2 have ditched the "cool" stuff with their latest album too. It's more gritty and them, although not their best, it's more natural. It sorta has that "POP" feel to it. Especially at the tail end. Pop always was an underrated record but it scared the shit out of U2 forever.

Martin wouldn't listen anyway. The only way he's gonna change his ways, is if sales start rapidly falling. That's just the kind of guy is, I think. Adventure of a Lifetime isn't the chart hit that perhaps many would have expected though. I fear you are right though - Chris Martin may just turn into a male Madonna trying to get down with the kids but looking like he's having a mid life crisis. you could say he has had one since he started to work on Xylo.

Young and upcoming bands should be made to listen to this album as an example of how not to completely destroy yourself.

Pop always was an underrated record but it scared the shit out of U2 forever. My gosh there is some really good stuff on there. The first three tracks are an onslaught of a gritty mix of techno and rock, and it's just good fun. It makes me wonder what the album would've been like, had they been able to fulfill "their vision" they had, instead of rushing to finish it before the start of the pre-booked tour that caused them to hurry things ahead.

X Marks the Spot is absolutely terrible. What was Chris thinking? How is this good music?

I'm touched. I'm actually in shock at how bad this album is apart from a few songs. It's embarrassing for Chris, he appears to have completely lost it, it's worse in terms of quality than anything Oasis put out.

What an underwhelming album. Just finished my first listen. The Good: A Head Full of Dreams (reminded me of X+Y, probably why I liked it) Birds (Creatively impressive for Coldplay at this stage of their devolving musical talent, reminds me of Viva La Vida material) Adventure of A Lifetime (The bassline, groove and Chris's vocals saved it for me. Very catchy but I see it becoming forgettable in several months) Mediocre: Fun (Enjoyable but forgettable) Color Spectrum (great interlude but sadly that's about it) Kaleidoscope (Experimental interlude track like Color Spectrum, the poem narration clip went well with their "vision" I suppose) Up & Up (Unfortunately the album version is very dissapointing compared to what we heard live. You can barely hear Noel's guitar solo!) Bad:Everglow (Extremely saccharine and ridiculously pretentious) Amazing Day (Coldplay paroding themselves) Garbage:Hymn for the Weekend (F*ck all) X Marks the Spot (One of the worst songs I've heard this year. Worse than Justin Bieber.) Army of One (As soon as it started I wanted to turn it off) Yup, COLDPLAY MADE A SONG WORSE THAN ONE OF JUSTIN BIEBER'S Yikes!

Many publications have a retrospective on Pop, and just like many of us, it is rated very highly these days. These articles are excellent reminders as to why it is great. As said, it is probably the most misunderstood album of all time and I think it is just great and is not at all overshadowed by their previous albums. www.avclub.com/article/u2s-electronic-heavy-pop-deserves-more-respect-its-209012theweek.com/articles/443850/defense-pop-u2s-most-hated-album

I enjoy AHFOD but damn it if it isn't the weakest album from Coldplay so far. It just feels like the songs aren't there. My favorites are Up & Up, Army of One, Adventure of a Lifetime, and A Head Full of Dreams. I'd rank the albums as such:
A Rush of Blood to the Head Parachutes X & Y Viva la Vida Mylo Xyloto Ghost Stories A Head Full of Dreams

Took a look over at Coldplaying for the song X Marks The Spot - even the hardcore support are laying into it.
The lowest of the very low. "You ride me like a rocket" - just fuck off for some time and reevaluate your career Chris Martin, you've really sharted it big style on this one!

Critics might be scared to "slam" it. Coldplay sells a lot of albums. They sell out a lot of arenas and stadiums. They might not want to harm business since the band are genuinely nice people.

Kevin Parker wanted to make a "pop" album with Tame Impala and he succeeded with Currents. Probably because Kevin knows the fine line between pop music and cheese.
