All kidding aside. Is Coldplay breaking up I wish they were. They have been dragging the dead horse around with them for the past 4 years.

Fuck this..... Anyway, Travis are back, the 'original' Coldplay. Man, they look old, making me feel old but the song (not a single as far as I know) is pretty decent and the video is hilarious (actor Daniel Bruhl is in it), nice to see a band being themselves eh Chris? Brilliant! Travis are great and that songs refreshingly really good.

Really wish Coldplay made another song like Violet Hill again. One of the most badass Coldplay tunes ever.

More please.

Great tune, great times. Was a long and dark December, and from the rooftops I remember, there was snow, white snow.Clearly I remember,From the windows they were watching,While we froze down below. When the future's architectured,By a carnival of idiots on show,You better lie low.If you love me, won't you let me know? Was a long and dark December,When the banks became cathedrals, and the fog became God.Priests clutched on to Bibles,Hollowed out to fit their rifles, and the cross was held aloft.Bury me in armour,When I'm dead and hit the ground,My nerves are poles that unfold. If you love me, won't you let me know?I don't want to be a soldier,That the captain of some sinking ship,Would stow far below. If you love me, why'd you let me go?I took my love down to violet hill,There we sat in the snow. All that time she was silent, still. So if you love me, won't you let me know?Imagine if Chris put this much effort into every songs lyrics....

Yep, I thought this a few weeks back when I was listening, great lyrics. 'Priests clutched onto bibles/hollowed out to fit their rifles' - love that line, and the irony of it all. Even the song Viva La Vida has brilliant lyrics for a mainstream pop song, what chart hit would have lyrics about a king who is dethroned via a revolution? What's more, it was only 7 years ago, but that tune had more in common with the great pop hits of decades ago which were all unique but also had mainstream appeal.

Beyonce. That's one big 'fuck you' from Chris Martin to all his fans and most of them don't even realize it. Is she trading vocals with Chris or is she just singing in the background? I would say they're both going at it by the clip. Maybe not though.

I can't believe we went from this to Rihanna and fucking Beyoncè. What a disappointment.

More please. I was very surprised when I saw this song pop up on my Facebook page. They're all in their early 40s now and Dougie Payne's wife is a Hollywood star these days and Fran lives in Berlin (next door neighbours with Stephen Malkmus of all people!) so I thought there wouldn't be much more but this is a much more swift return. I've always seen Travis as unashamed acoustic pop, which has more in common with early Coldplay and acoustic Oasis songs. Fran is a songwriter of the same calibre as Noel and Chris Martin where the melody is main ingredient in their tunes. While there is no bonafide classic in their discography, I find them one of the more consistently very good bands around and I really like all of their albums personally. The guys themselves are great - probably can't find a nicer bunch of guys in the music industry and they totally lack any sense of arrogance and pretension.

Just a few of the reasons why Viva la Vida is one of my all-time favourite albums. It's a band riding a creative rush (of ideas to the head, which back then was full of good songs rather than dreams). Lost! and Lovers in Japan are the only real lyrical weak spots on the album - quite an achievement for Chris Martin. I've listened to this album so much I actually have my own alternative lyrics for bits of Lost! which fit the revolution theme: Just because we're losing, Doesnt mean we've lost, Doesn't mean we'll stop, Doesn't mean you're across.
Just because you've hurt us, Doesn't mean we'll serve, Doesn't mean you won't get what you deserve, For better or for worse.

Army of One sounds the most promising of of the unheard tracks, but there's a few problems on judging a 3/4 minute song on a 10 second instrumental part. I can already tell I'm going to hate Army Of One after listening to that preview.

I thought Army of One sounded the best of all the clips too but I agree that you can't really judge a song on such a short clip.

It really annoys me how badly they regressed creatively after Viva/Prospekt's March. I think it's probably due to Chris Martin trying to remain "current" (whatever the hell that means) which is always going to be a recipe for disaster. If you try to write music for a broad, Radio 1 style demographic, of course your songs are going to sound bland and generic!

Amazing Day is a case in point. Trying hard to create a new emotional hit like Fix You but turning into a parody.

Probably it's just me but I love the lyrics from Lost!...well I love Lost! so that might influence my judgement

Parachutes / A Rush of Blood to the Head / X&Y = Substance > Style
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends = Style + Substance
Mylo Xyloto / Ghost Stories = Style > Substance

Gave the single a quick listen. Never been a huge fan of Coldplay. Tbh, never been able to stomach them. So I'm not entirely sure why I ended up listening to 'Ghost Stories', but I really really liked parts of it.I liked the stripped-back nature of the record, I like the chilled, electronic downer of the whole vibe. I liked that the record at various points sounded like both Nick Drake and Drake. And Chris Martin's Nick Drake impression was spot on! The best I've ever heard on Record. So I gave the new tune a go, and I'm sure I actually quite like it, but I cant get past the fact that he's copying Peace! Fair dos, they're not the most original band in the world, and fair dos to Martin for having his ear to the ground, or at least places 10-20 in the UK albums chart, but surely it's a little shameful for a band of Coldplay's stature to be ripping off the sounds of a band so much younger? Especially a band that's struggling to properly break into the mainstream, and probably facing a huge amount of label pressure for their third record? Again, Martin's doing an impersonation, again it's a great one, and again I prefer it to his waitrose essentials Neil Young impression. But Have a listen to Peace and he's really, really copying Harry Koisser. Peace have created a marketable, youth-friendly sound but haven't been able to translate it to mainstream success outside of Birmingham. I understand the avaricious nature of the music business necessitates the cannibalisation of Peace's sound (minus any charm , subtlety or nuance) by the musical dry-heave of 'bands' like Coasts: Even if a band does break through to the mainstream, other labels are going to try to capitalise on it. But I'm disappointed in Chris Martin, and if it's unintentional, then I'm even more disappointed in him for being a carbon copy of a carbon copy of a carbon copy. Anyway, here's some Peace. Not saying they copied the tune, but they copied the sound/vibe. And yes, I know it's a throwback to various 80s/90s styles, but I feel Coldplay are just bandwaggoning a sound you're only going to hear more of in the next year or two. And I very much doubt the band behind the re-emergence of this sound will ever get Jack Shit. Digging the singers' Shaun Ryder circa 1990 barnet!
