Sorta had a Rush of Blood to the Head vibe going. Nothing off Ghost Stories sounded like this. Very interested to hear more.

That's a very solid pop song; definitely a grower. Based on this version, I can't hear how a producer would try and turn it into a 'radio-frienldy single' either, which is a good thing.

Btw guys, clock the track length - this live version comes in at a whopping 6:48. For a single song, that's got to be a Coldplay record. That's longer than Paranoid Android. And it's Coldplay. I still wonder whether this album will fit into the top or bottom half of Coldplays career, seeing as there is a great divide between the top three (Parachutes / A Rush of Blood to the Head / Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends) and the bottom three (X&Y / Mylo Xyloto / Ghost Stories). Almost everyone's ranking of Coldplay's albums just features these sets of three in different orders - very rarely does one cross over into the other. Right now, I'm calling it and saying A Head Full of Dreams will come out of nowhere and just make it into the big league.

Hmmmmm it does contain one of the worst Coldplay songs I've ever heard, Amazing Day.

It's been out a couple of weeks, but I do really like Adventure of a Lifetime, got some nice funk to it and it's great to hear REAL instruments in a song. It's not a great song but it's one that I would never skip when it comes on the stereo. A good solid track.
That tune, and Up&Up, have more of Jonny Buckland in it for very long time, and I've always thought rule number one of a band is to give your guitarist big billing - all the great great bands do it. Less synths, more Jonny and I'd be fine with well crafted pop songs (not lazy arsed pop songs - I.e. Chart music that obscure songs with synths to cover up a terrible tune).

I like it. And the solo does sound totally Noel! I can't really see how Beyoncé would fit on this track though, what her role could be.

You know, oddly enough I think the time is ripe for a band such as Coldplay to reclaim their mantle. Pop/rock is in a pretty dire state right now, and a fun Coldplay album its kinda needed in the public consciousness. I'm perfectly fine with a sunny poppy Coldplay album acting as a contrast to Adele's mope, which will be the soundtrack of this winter if not the next 18 months. I prefer subtle Coldplay, but if they do their bombast with taste its hard to deny the melodic chops of Martin and Co.

Wow, Up&Up is a solid tune. It reminds me of Primal Scream's Movin' on Up a bit, and has a real distinct British guitar pop feel to it. This may not be as bad as it was once shaping up to be when Amazing Day was first performed.

I don't know. I never was a big fan of Coldplay, but up until Viva La Vida i used to listen to all of their records, quite a lot sometimes. Don't know what happened to them, but it seems like these guys have nowhere else to go musically and as a band. It suprises me actually because they seemed to had all the potential, they could have go anywhere with their music.
Chris is a very gifted musician, without a doubt a great songwriter. They never had this one mega tune, but they were very solid in what they were doing and every album was a bit in a different style and always containted fresh, beautiful songs. Even though they got their own particular sound, they always were capable of surprising people with their new material. That's how they got so big, they were just very good at it. I even liked Mylo Xyloto, but since then, until now, this band just fails to interest me with their singles or new albums.
People say that they're all pop now, but i don't really mind pop. It's just that the songs are not quite there. The band seems very happy with what they're doing and all and it's good for them, but i don't hear it in music to be honest. They lost this class somewhere down the road. Surely, the new album will be ok and the songs so far are alright, but it's just the same old vibe since Mylo Xyloto. The colors, Rihanna, Beyonce, Stone Rosy riffs, dance vibe, nothing new. I thought they could do better.

Gave the single a quick listen. Never been a huge fan of Coldplay. Tbh, never been able to stomach them. So I'm not entirely sure why I ended up listening to 'Ghost Stories', but I really really liked parts of it.I liked the stripped-back nature of the record, I like the chilled, electronic downer of the whole vibe. I liked that the record at various points sounded like both Nick Drake and Drake. And Chris Martin's Nick Drake impression was spot on! The best I've ever heard on Record.
So I gave the new tune a go, and I'm sure I actually quite like it, but I cant get past the fact that he's copying Peace! Fair dos, they're not the most original band in the world, and fair dos to Martin for having his ear to the ground, or at least places 10-20 in the UK albums chart, but surely it's a little shameful for a band of Coldplay's stature to be ripping off the sounds of a band so much younger? Especially a band that's struggling to properly break into the mainstream, and probably facing a huge amount of label pressure for their third record? Again, Martin's doing an impersonation, again it's a great one, and again I prefer it to his waitrose essentials Neil Young impression. But Have a listen to Peace and he's really, really copying Harry Koisser. Peace have created a marketable, youth-friendly sound but haven't been able to translate it to mainstream success outside of Birmingham. I understand the avaricious nature of the music business necessitates the cannibalisation of Peace's sound (minus any charm , subtlety or nuance) by the musical dry-heave of 'bands' like Coasts: Even if a band does break through to the mainstream, other labels are going to try to capitalise on it. But I'm disappointed in Chris Martin, and if it's unintentional, then I'm even more disappointed in him for being a carbon copy of a carbon copy of a carbon copy.
Anyway, here's some Peace. Not saying they copied the tune, but they copied the sound/vibe. And yes, I know it's a throwback to various 80s/90s styles, but I feel Coldplay are just bandwaggoning a sound you're only going to hear more of in the next year or two. And I very much doubt the band behind the re-emergence of this sound will ever get Jack Shit.

The colors, Rihanna, Beyonce, Stone Rosy riffs, dance vibe, nothing new. I thought they could do better. They are kinda going in reverse in terms of influences. If you go back and watch interviews of Coldplay from 2000/2001 Chris mentions artists like Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and PJ Harvey. Now it's Beyoncé, Rihanna, AVICCI and Justin Bieber. Very strange progression. Let's be honest, Coldplay have had plenty of "mega" tunes. Yellow, Clocks, Fix You, Viva La Vida were global hits and still played on radio today. They were able to maintain their global success worldwide far longer than Oasis could muster. That's impressive in itself and I believe that impacts the way Chris writes music. He wants to stay relevant and popular because it won't last forever. Bono keeps chasing it and it's rather sad at times.

Some of those snippets don't sound too hot. This might turn into a Mylo/Ghost Stories album where I only listen to 3-4 tracks and delete the rest. Shame too since A Head Full of Dreams, Adventure of a Lifetime and Up&Up sounded so strong at the Tidal gig.
