Reading through this thread and seen many varying opinions that I can respect in most regard.
As an album, BHN is like a awesome roller coaster: it doesn't hold your hand and walk you around, but straps you in and doesn't let go. It isn't focused on being the most classic album ever, just wants to take you on a fun ride that you will enjoy.
As individual songs, its even better. When IHITIK comes on, I feel literally unstoppable and nothing can ruin my day. AATW is absolutely remarkable from a melodic standpoint, because it truly could go on forever. All the songs, even Magic Pie, contain melodies I just love to pieces and find more memorable than any of their later studio releases.
Does the brickwall, loud and clippy production, over saturation of guitar tracks like in My Big Mouth, insane cocaine fueled mayhem on IGBM, and ridiculously prolonged length on most of the tunes hold it back from being one of best albums ever? Yes. And that is why it was a huge letdown compared to WTSMG. But compared to anything after SOTSOG? Well, for me, the tunes on HC, DBTT, and DOYS wish they had the magic and essence of fun insanity that BHN contains.

Even for me, a hardcore fan, it was hard to get into BHN, now imagine a casual fan?
Before I heard the album I only knew the singles, but when I heard the full album for the first time it gave me a huge headache, the songs were too long and too loud, only years later I started to appreciate BHN, much because of that sonic love noize version which took out the loudness.
But till today I only listen to it sporadically, one song here, other song there, and I really like BHN, but I can only listen to it in this way, unlike their other albums.

I personally love BHN album as do a ton of others on the forum. People often say it was hyped up and didn't live up to it and then people say it was a disaster. But I think people suddenly decided it was no longer fashionable to like oasis and that was that. DYKWIM was eagerly anticipated. Mtv went nuts for it (video launch) it went to number 1 and people were positive. Don't recall people saying it was too long or rewrite if wonderwall Then BHN album was launched and was mega fast selling The next single went to number 2 (but I count this as a number 2 any other time, as princess Diana died and elton johns song was number 1 - so that's pretty good Their live shows were amazing at this time AATW went to number 1 too So surely people were still loving oasis really and BHN was still liked Just seems to me people have then jumped in the bandwagon of "songs too long ". I've heard people blame the death of Diana on the UK's own bad reception to BHN before and I always thought that was interesting ... that the national mood would be swayed over to light pop music paving the way for bands like Coldplay and no one was interested in a big loud rock 'n roll record. Sort of like how after 9/11 the US moved out of 90s shock culture and away from bands like Marilyn Manson.

Fade In-Out is fucking mega The only thing I like about it is Johnny Depp and the scream. To be honest it took me a while to appreciate it, and the same thing had happened before with Columbia. When I heard them for the first time I wasn't that impressed, but there's been a moment some months/years later when I was in the right mood and I finally got them. I love them both now (even if Columbia is superior). You know when in late summer afternoons you see a big storm approaching, and half of the sky is sunny and the other half is filled with black clouds? When the breeze becomes a cool wind and you can smell the rain coming? That's the moment when Fade In-Out makes a fucking lot of sense. Ok, I'm having a cold beer now.

Although DM is by far the best album and defines oasis in every sense. And WTSMG was clearly the commercial side of oasis with much cleaner sounds and polished songs...anthems. BHN to me is one of the best end to end journeys in rock and roll...
The length of the songs was never a problem for me and many people who wanted WTSMG mk2, thats their problem.
I only ever used to skip Magic Pie (has good first half and lousy 2nd) and fade in-out (not convinced by the album cut...love the live version)
