Interesting with this album is that everybody seems VERY different tastes about. If you look some rankings in a row, you can fin Mighty I in the 1st and Lock All Then, then the latter you have exactly a different ranking. One of the only Oasis/Noel album I noticed that.

It might not have the highs of other records, but it's really solid, there are so many good tracks on it,plus there's a lot of variety compared to his previous efforts with both Oasis and HFB,some people might prefer songs like Lock All The Doors, others might prefer The Right Stuff etc. Those are the main reasons I guess

The Dying Of The Light Lock All The Doors Ballad Of The Mighty I Riverman The Girl With X-Ray Eyes In The Heat Of The Moment You Know We Can't Go Back While The Song Remains The Same The Right Stuff The Mexican
I like them all other than The Mexican which just doesn't have any appeal to me. It's very sleazy and the lyrics are poor but it does fit in the context of the album as a whole.

I used more than an hour to write a long reply, and then everything just disappeared for some reason. I put a lot of work into it, very frustrating.

'the ballad of the mighty i' is a song that snuck right up on me. i used to think it was 'good', but now to me it's absolutely epic. might just be my #1 favorite off the album now.

1. While the Song Remains the Same Pure magic. Best lyrics on the album: "Hold that thought, don't let me go. We can dance beneath the fireflies on an empty road." and "Isn't it strange how memories fade to grey, we let love get lost in anger chasing yesterday". All those tiny details through the song, the instrumentation, the amazing guitar solo, the melody, everything works brilliantly. One of Noel's best songs in years. 2. Lock All the Doors The only thing that this song lacks is Liam on vocals. Noel still does a great job though. The song does an important job of shaking up the pace on the album, giving it vitality and energy. Great guitar solo, and I really like the transition from the first chorus to the next verse. Also think the line "she wore a star-shaped tambourine, prettiest girl I've ever seen" is sung in a really cool way, the rythm and pronounciation of the words in that line works and flows really well. Also it's a cool lyrical line. It's like a song from WTSMG, just with better mixing and audio quality. 3. The Dying of the Light Would've been higher up if the drums didn't dominate the song so much as it does on the album version. I like the acoustic version with Noel and Mike Rowe way better. 4. The Girl With X-Ray Eyes Good song once you stop focusing on the cringeworthy "she shot me to the sun, like a bullet from a gun, and when the deed was done"-part. 5. You Know We Can't Go Back This used to be my favorite, but after several listens I find the chorus to be a bit monotonous and tiresome. Still good song and shakes up things a little bit on the record. Would've been a good closer for the album. 6. The Right Stuff Has grown on me quite a bit, but I still don't like the guitar solo. Also find it to be somehow repetitive. But it has some really cool lyrics, like the line with "are you the devil with a heart of gold". Noel and the girl's voice fit beautifully together. Nice atmosphere. 7. In the Heat of the Moment The verses are still brilliant, the instrumentation, production etc. The chorus does the job, but it's not exactly a instant classic. 8. Ballad of the Mighty I First it started growing on me, but now I'm starting to like it a little bit less somehow. It's more like I like certain parts of the song more than the song itself, like the backing vocals on some of the verses, Marr's guitar playing and stuff like that. For some reason I enjoy it more when I watch it together with the music video. The structure of the song doesn't work that well for me, but my taste is a bit traditional and conservative when it comes to song structure so maybe that's just me. 9. Riverman The parts with saxophone is nice, cool atmosphere intro and outtro etc, but besides that it doesn't do much for me. Don't like the guitar solo. 10. The Mexican The last choruses are decent, but besides that it's a song that I don't feel like listening to.

Btw: I listened a bit to Riverman now for the first time in a while, and like it a little better. So I might put it a bit higher up. This is weird. Why would I suddenly start to like it?

I still can't do this. It might change at any moment, but well... Ballad of the Mighty I The Dying of the Light While the Song Remains the Same Riverman Lock All the Doors The Right Stuff You Know We Can't Go Back In the Heat of the Moment The Mexican The Girl With X-Ray Eyes Some minor changes two months later: Ballad of the Mighty I The Dying of the Light While the Song Remains the Same You Know We Can't Go Back Lock All the Doors Riverman The Right Stuff In the Heat of the Moment The Mexican The Girl With X-Ray Eyes It still amazes me how solid this album is. Except for the last 3 tracks in the ranking, any other song could be in my personal top 3 depending on my mood of the day. Riverman and The Right Stuff are excellent but I've pushed them near to the bottom, and that says it all really. Another try... Ballad of the Mighty I While the Song Remains the Same The Dying of the Light Lock All the Doors You Know We Can't Go Back The Right Stuff Riverman In the Heat of the Moment The Mexican The Girl With X-Ray Eyes I think the album gets better and better. I genuinely think there isn't a single shit track on it. X-Ray Eyes is the weakest one.
