The Doctor: Why did you lie to me? River Song: When one's in love with an ageless God who insists on the face of a twelve year old, one does one's best to hide the damage.

Shame she isn't from the 80s. That could've been cool.

Oh God, she sounds awful. Her being a gobshite could be quite funny though, if it frees up Capaldi to get angry with her, and launch into one of his Malcolm Tucker-but-without-being-able-to-swear tirades, the writers like to write for him every now and then. PCap's particularly good at all that. This scene, , along with that bit from the Cyberman finale of series 8, where he's on a plane with Missy and she's being taking the piss, and he just yells at her to "Shut up!" spring to mind. Could be a "new, exciting twist" on the Doctor-companion dynamic, after all, if instead of being irritated by his evil foes, he spend most of his time absolutely rollocking his companion. Haha. Mind you, you never know, she could be really likeable. Like another Donna. Or even another *face flushes red* Rose Tyler.

PCap revealed at some fan expo thing in America, that the new series starts filming in two weeks. Here he is, wearing a Bowie Blackstar tee: Rock on!

(And, to add insult to injury, this is the first time since Who came back that I'm not physically attracted to either the Doctor or his companion). Not feeling the PCap love? You know, it's actually pretty sweet (if a little bizarre) seeing in the YouTube comments sections and Twitter and such, all the middle aged women who felt a bit insecure swooning over 20-odd year old Matt Smith, now getting someone to fangirl over. Saw one the other day, "he can check me up any time!" Then again... Will be interesting if Sarah Dollard writes one for series 10. Maybe we'll see The Doctor doing a few lengths of the TARDIS swimming pool or something...

Obviously I'm hoping Capaldi stays on after Moffat goes, but if he does choose to leave as well, it'll be interesting to see what they do for the regeneration scene.
Would take some to beat Matt Smith's...

So, the plan for the last lot of Moffat-era Who episodes... -2016 Christmas special - MOFFAT -SERIES 10: Ep 1 - MOFFAT Ep 2 - Frank Cottrell-Boyce (wrote that boring-as-fuck one from series 8 - you know, the one with all the trees.) Ep 3 - Sarah Dollard (wrote series 9's 'Face the Raven') Ep 4 - Mike Bartlett Ep 5 - Ep 6 - Ep 7 - Ep 8 - Ep 9 - Ep 10 - MOFFAT Ep 11 - MOFFAT Ep 12 - MOFFAT -2017 Christmas special - MOFFAT Big stretch of non-Moffat eps there, in the middle. Hope the series can still hold together as well as series 9 did... Would be nice if those last three eps of series 10 were all one epic continuous story like what RTD did with series 4 (series 3 as well, but that was shite)...

Tom Baker, because he did the voice over to Little Britain. Liked Christopher Eccleston as the doctor too, he's also in a video for I Am Kloot. Also if no ones ever seen Our Friends In The North it's definitely worth a watch, theyknowwhatimean I'm sure you would like it if you haven't already seen any of it. CE is brilliant in that.

Matt Lucas is to return to “Doctor Who” from the opening episode of season 10, following his appearance as Nardole in the show’s 2015 Christmas Day special “The Husbands of River Song.” The new season starts filming on Monday in Cardiff, Wales.
Lucas joins newcomer Pearl Mackie, who takes up the role of the companion of The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi. It is Mackie’s first major television role following her appearance in the hit London stage show “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.”
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, said in a statement: “Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS — and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on Planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”
Stephanie Hyam will play a guest cast role in the new season. Hyam previously played Lily Clarke in “Jekyll & Hyde,” and has also appeared in “Peaky Blinders,” “Murdered by My Boyfriend” and “Sherlock.”
Nardole is described by the BBC as serial maker of mistakes. In “The Husbands of River Song,” he was an employee of River Song in the year 5343 in the human colony on Mendorax Dellora. Song had asked him to find a surgeon to operate on King Hydroflax, known as “the Butcher of the Bone Meadows.” Nardole recruited The Doctor instead.
The opening episode of season 10 is written by Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Lawrence Gough. The second episode has been penned by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who was BAFTA nominated for “Hilary and Jackie.” Other writers working on the new season include Sarah Dollard, who wrote the episode “Face the Raven,” and Mike Bartlett, who wrote the series “Doctor Foster.”
“Doctor Who” is produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One and BBC America. It will return in December with a Christmas Special, followed by the new season next year.

Anyone seen Takin' over the Asylum? That's a brilliant drama shown on BBC2 in the mid 90s with an early starring role for David Tennant, alongside Ken Stott. It's since been released on DVD. Tennant almost steals the show with his charismatic and sensitive portrayal of a hospital radio DJ suffering from bipolar disorder. I remember being gripped by the programme on its original broadcast. Gritty stuff, but there's plenty of light and shade in there too. Tennant's character has an exuberance that in some ways foreshadows his version of the Doctor. More info on the series here: m.imdb.com/title/tt0209813/

Nice little documentary about the police box, with some vintage newsreel footage. It's narrated by Colin Baker, best known for his portrayal of the sixth Doctor.

Matt Smith is now my favourite. And Capaldi's my second.
Will have to watch Ecclestone's again, but it might well be that Tennant is now my least favourite NewWho Doctor. I still really like his incarnation, and he's a fabulous actor and (as far as I can tell) a nice bloke as well, but as someone said a few pages back, he's just not "alien" enough.
Somehow I think Moffat-era Who will age a lot better than RTD-era has and will.

Haven't watched any of the Capaldi episodes yet. On 6th season now (went from 7th to 6th, don't ask, I'm not sure what I've seen already and what I haven't) and I like it much, much better than the 7th. Smith just steals every scene he's in!
Has there been any discussion on favourite companions yet?

But yeah, series 7 was really weak; if it wasn't for Smith's last two eps - the 50th anniversary special and the Christmas special where he regenerates into Capaldi - coming straight after it, it almost wouldn't be worth it at all. Good idea on the companions ranking: 1. Rose Tyler 2. Donna Noble 3. Amy Pond 4. Clara Oswald 5. Rory Pond (née Williams) ... ... ... ... ... 6. Martha Jones
