Apologies, but I can't remember much about it. I must have been a teenager still when I watched it last, because mostly I just remember lusting over that incredibly beautiful Asian lass who was also in Humans. Killer last scene, though. Sure, the dialogue's a bit hammy, and Murray Gold's score is just as bombastic as ever, but you must always be prepared to take the rough with the smooth with Doctor Who. And that scene is perhaps the first time the show looked properly cinematic--Tennant reeling round on hearing the gunshot go off always gives me goosebumps. And, despite the dialogue, Tennant and the blond woman play it well. What I love most about Doctor Who is when they take chances; and making Tennant's Doctor behave like such a cunt was certainly that, especially considering those specials were supposed to be something of a going away present to Tennant and his fans, while Moffat and his team were putting together series 5. I liked that whole "You can live too long" thing they did with 10. What about you, man? Are you a bit in two minds, is that why you asked? I can remember not being that fond of the other 2009 specials. The last two have good moments, but that 20 minute lap of honour was bloody ridiculous. Don't get sentimental: it always ends up drivel.

I can remember not being that fond of the other 2009 specials. The last two have good moments, but that 20 minute lap of honour was bloody ridiculous. Don't get sentimental: it always ends up drivel. Not so much in two minds (gave it a nine out of ten in the review I'm writing), just curious to see what other fans thought due to it's tone and plot. I think it would have been a lot stronger if Davies had built up the "Time Lord Victorious" arc more, maybe across the two previous specials or even across Series Four, and that lack of build-up might affect how people thought about it considering the rather sudden turn into ego-mania Tennant makes at the end. That said, I do think it fit his character, especially after so much heartbreak and at a point when he is raging against the dying of the light and, crucially, companion-less. Worth a rewatch most definitely, even if just for the wonderful base-under-siege story at it's heart. And, yeah, I just watched The End of Time now. Tennant's scene with the wonderful Bernard Cribbins should have been his last, I could maybe stomach that refreshingly short-and-bittersweet Rose coda, but the whole "remember THIS companion?" sequence really took the emotion out of things. I think The Master's plan is pretty stupid too, although I absolutely love Tim Dalton as Rassilon, perfect casting. I remember watching Ten's demise at the time and thinking The Doctor could never be as good again, now I know the coming two series will be my favourites. Bring on the fishfingers and custard.

it always takes me a while to adjust to the new Doctor and companions. I like Jodie, I think she's doing a good job. the stories aren't that exciting though. I liked episodes 3 and 4. the last one bored me to tears

theyknowwhatimean , nice bit of nerdiness for you, here: the scene Moffat wrote for actresses to perform at the Clara auditions! I have to say, I used to despise Clara, but having re-watched the Capaldi era recently (and found it to be the best overall, or at least up there with 11/The Ponds and 10/Donna), I realised what an incredibly bold move her character arc was. Making a companion because every bit as curious, addicted, intelligent, and important as The Doctor? And not just in a soppy way, but to actually explore the toxicity of it? Great stuff. Anyway, I'm rambling, here's the scene: THE DOCTOR: So you saw it coming in here? What did it look like? JASMINE: Gray. Sort of dusty. Like it was made of spider webs. THE DOCTOR: And it came through the wall? JASMINE: Yeah, that wall there. THE DOCTOR: And made a moaning sound. JASMINE: Moaning, groaning, yeah. THE DOCTOR: But you don't think it was a ghost. JASMINE: There's no such thing as ghosts. THE DOCTOR: You know, a lot of people who saw what you saw wouldn't still think that. JASMINE: Obviously. Otherwise there wouldn't be people who believe in ghosts. THE DOCTOR: What were you doing here? JASMINE: I love this place. It's... beautiful. THE DOCTOR: It's falling apart. JASMINE: It's old. I like old things, they make me feel sad. THE DOCTOR: What's good about sad? JASMINE: It's happy for deep people. You'd know. THE DOCTOR: I'm not sad! JASMINE: Oh, you are though. Under all that talking and leaping about. Takes one to know one. THE DOCTOR: So you come here for... recreational sadness? JASMINE: Yeah. In a way. Okay, why are you looking at me like that? THE DOCTOR: You remind me of an old friend. Someone I lost. JASMINE: Down boy. I'm not her. THE DOCTOR: Oh, I know you're not. I don't believe in ghosts either. JASMINE: Oh my God, what's that?! THE DOCTOR: Okay, just stay calm. JASMINE: But that's the thing I saw before. THE DOCTOR: Yep, and it's coming towards us. I expect you noticed that. Say it with me - I don't believe in ghosts! JASMINE: I don't believe in ghosts!! THE DOCTOR: Louder! I don't believe in ghosts! JASMINE: I don't believe in ghosts! Will this work? THE DOCTOR: No idea, never met a ghost before. Not surprising to see that even when it's for a scene that will never see a television screen, Moffat is still writes more spritely dialogue than anything managed since his departure.

I instantly loved Jodie as the Doctor, really looking forward the next season! I don't mind a female Doctor but I think Jodie is seriously miscast. The role needs somebody quirkier like Phoebe Waller Bridge.

Well, it's another disappointment from Chibnall, really. I was happy to see more long-form arcs (I've always wanted Doctor Who to have a go at being a completely serialised show, building on the better ideas of S6), but the fact is that the whole thing was built on hollow characters, dull dialogue, and forgettable villains. And that finale. God, don't get me started. One of the most pointless and needlessly dense pieces of television I've ever seen. People have criticised NuWho for making The Doctor too God-like, but it was always as a result of his own actions. He began as a dead-beat Time Lord who ran away, and then through his own kind actions became a mythological figure for people all over the universe, until it eventually came back to bite him. That's a great character arc. What Chibnall has done is made The Doctor special by default. Not good. I think the truth is that Chibbers is a hard-worker and a good bloke, but he just doesn't possess that flair of RTD and Moffat, the ability to write jaw-dropping Who. Something brand new is needed. A new writer. A serialised season, maybe an animated season, maybe something much scarier, maybe a season with two Doctors, maybe a season told in reverse, I don't know, just something different.

New artwork of my favourite era of Doctor Who released for a steelbook Always wished I could make stuff like this, either digitally or with paints, or however it's done. How could you ever be bored, when you're able to make something as beautiful as that?
Anyway, I'm glad to see my favourite episode ('The Doctor's Wife') featured prominently. Full marks from me.

David Tennant was the coolest one. I cannot really explain it but he just had a swagger about him.

Never was a huge fan of Doctor Who but I have fond memories of David Tennant and Matt Smith(to a lesser extent).

I caught the end of John Pertwee but grew up with Tom Baker as the Doctor. I also remember being frightened of the Daleks I was never a huge fan, but I did catch some of the David Tennant episodes later on because he was getting so much good press ... and I can see why ...
