Took me longer than expected to listen to this, but finally have for a few times and it's brillant. Sure, the sound is less rocking than on the first two, and there's no Up The Bracket or Don't Look Back into the Sun on it. But pretty much all the songs are great - Barbarians, Gunga Din, Anthem for Doomed Youth, You're My Waterloo, Heart of the Matter and the Milkman's Horse are my favorites so far, the title track being my favourite song in a long while. Actually surprised they pulled off an album that sounds distinctly like the Libertines without just retreading old ground. Well done.

What would you say, Anthems for Doomed Youth or CY? Well,my opinion is clearly biased but CY is my album of the year Both have some great tunes tho Riverman,The Right Stuff,Mughty I,The Dying Of The Light,While The Song Remains The Same vs You're My Waterloo,Heart Of The Matter,Anthem For Doomed Youth,Glasgow Coma Scale Blues,Iceman And the rest is not bad either

I didn't expect anything, I was just thinking "Let's try, I enjoyed their Paris show in september 14, so I give you a chance" and I think they managed to do an album, different of the 2 first, but very cool. Try to make a new Up The Bracket should have been an error imo, they tried something different and it's just simply good.
I'll see them in Paris in march 2016. I wish the crowd won't be wild as their last Paris gig. It was impossible to stay on your legs, I never sa a crowd like that :- )

I haven't listened to this yet. I need to it might sneak into my end of the year list. The Libertine's hype is Britain was a little unwarranted in my opinion, but there's no denying that Up the Bracket is top five rock debut for the decade. A legitimately great album, and their second is very good. Can't Stand Me Now and Music When the Lights Go Out are magic and the Don't Look Back into the Sun EP is pretty good as well.
Will see what's up. At their best, the chemistry of the 4 is pretty remarkable. No band really captures that frantic ska/punk Clash vibe like them. At the heart of it their drugged out romantics.

I can't really tell anymore if this is bad or if I grew up and can't listen to stuff like this anymore. I would like to know what would 19 years old me think

It sounds okay for what it is but it's not something I would listen to these days. I would rather a more musically mature sound from them at this stage and age. They don't need to make music that sounds like a young band and it's not close to what they could do when they were a young band.

I can't really tell anymore if this is bad or if I grew up and can't listen to stuff like this anymore. I would like to know what would 19 years old me think I think it’s great, but this is why- normally when bands like this revisit their sound 20 odd years later, it just sounds like old guys doing young music. But this genuinely sounds like it could have been written and recorded by Barat/Doherty back in the early 2000’s. Certainly more so than their last record. I think it’s great. I’m also glad that Carl Barat is at the forefront of this song, I feel he gets overlooked a bit because of Pete’s infamy, but he really is the heart, soul and main driver of the libertines, and has a cracking voice. I’m really glad they are back and putting out tunes as strong as this

It's sounds like an AI generated version of a libertines song to me.

Nice song, bit autopilot, terrible production.
Did they record it on cubase in 96 ? Nah, even with that gear it would sound better.

Got into Pete a few years back after watching him a shit load of times acoustic. Revisiting the Libs now as I didn't like them years ago, they're pretty good tbh

The production is awful. The tune is rudimentary. The band are completely lacking in relevance and point.

The songs okay, fine as an album track but I think I was expecting more out of a comeback single.
That said, I do really like this band and am excited for another album.

For all his berating Doherty seems to actually be a rather interesting chap to listen to. As I say not even dipped into these chaps previously. Liked Carl Barats and the jackals album.
