There was a UKIP win from CON that flashed up for half a second. I don't get a chance to see where it was though.

What is the biggest story/surprise from tonight?
Conservative's Strength? SNP's excel at Labour's expense? Lib Dem's demise?

That's Vince Cable gone now - remember when he was massively popular, seat won by Tories.

I was gob smacked when the exit poll was revealed. The other two were predicted but this success is going to go down in history and a lot is going to be written about how this happened.

How did they get it so massively wrong - I know this is a pretty unique election, but come on, what a poor effort from all concerned in the British media?

Shadow chancellor Ed Balls about to lose his seat?
Surely not?

No, it's the one they retained in Dumfriesshire. I should have said 'held' rather than 'take' but all the polls I saw suggested an SNP victory for that constituency.

Shadow chancellor Ed Balls about to lose his seat? Surely not? That rumour's been floating around for a few hours. If it's true then Labour will need to have a massive rebuilding job on their hands, not only in Scotland but nationally.

I've had Sky News on for ages, and they're still only showing 1 for UKIP....?

Massive dilemma on their hand - they have to shift to the centre again but at what cost in Scotland - they are tied up in knots. They need fresh faces in, put some popular faces in there as well - Alan Johnson is well liked across the country (and his memoirs about his tough childhood is amazing I recommend it), then they might gain traction again. I think some just associated them too much with the previous Brown administration.

Cheerio Jim, enjoy signing on.
Tonight is the beginning of the end of a bankrupt and outdated union.

Welcome to the dark ages of a conservative majority government. I truly hope we see the end of ours in Canada this autumn but I worry we won't. This isn't the country I grew up with any more.

I still can't believe that the Conservatives will have an effective majority. Not one of the polls even came close to suggesting this.
I also hope Ed Miliband continues to lead Labour.

Ed Balls has lost his seat by 422 votes.
Shocking for Labour.
