The bsides for the last record were a precursor on what was to come. Chasing Yesterday, are those ideas more fleshed out and built upon.

See folk givin' songs 10/10, I can't understand that at all. To me 10/10 songs are Live Forever. Don't Look Back In Anger etc. You really tellin' me you think these songs are as good as those I mentioned?

Viva La High Flying Birds! Just listened to Chasing Yesterday AGAIN and wow, what a record - encompassing smoky saxophones, acoustic grooves, storming guitars, bowie pastiches, massive solos, dance epics, gorgeous ballads, Springsteen behemoths, female vocals, T-Rex style riffs, energetic production and Eno synths without once losing flow or taking away from its character as a whole. Creatively Noel's zenith IMO - obviously not his best but his most varied, interesting and forward-facing record ever. And Mememe26, in their own way Riverman, The Right Stuff and The Dying of the Light are as good as any song, again you have to take things in context.

However it's a psychological thing, sometimes the 10 means 10 inside de album, not inside the universe of rock music.

Although I think that Riverman and The Right Stuff are up there with his best stuff (in terms of quality, genius, melody etc), you need to put a context on this. I can't compare TRS with DLBIA as songs. They're completely different!

Riverman 10/10 ITHOTM 8.5/10 The Girl with X-Ray Eyes 8.25/10 Lock All The Doors 8/10 The Right Stuff 10/10 The Dying of the Light 8/10 While the Song... 4/10 The Mexican 9/10 You Know We Can't Go Back 9.5/10 Ballad of the Mighty I 10/10
As much as I enjoyed the first album, the variety is what really strikes me immediately about this one. I am loving the different sounds and styles going on. Will be enjoying this for a long time.
Riverman is brilliant, tho could've ended the album instead of opened it. XRay grows on me every time i get to it. The Right Stuff is just sublime and perfect. Love love love "youuuuuuuuu and iiiiiiiii got the...right stuff", so fucking smooth. TDOTL, although a weaker song/melody etc than IIHAG - sonically MILES better and a more enjoyable listen because of that. Only stinker is While the Song Remains the Same. Don't get the praise people are heaping on it at all. I can at least understand why some don't like The Mexican, but I dig the hell out of that. You Know We Can't go Back - what a fucking joy to listen to. So nice to feel that old euphoric feeling I used to get with new Oasis tunes. Absolutely stunning effort, Mr. Gallagher.
Gonna feel invincible this whole week while I run this bitch into the ground.

Wow really like it. Sounds like what SOTSOG could have been if Noel had been in a happier place when he wrote it. Only minor points are the nah nah Nahs in Heat of the Moment, I reckon horns would have been better and in keeping with the album, and X-ray Eyes I thought was going to be a cover of Stairway to Heaven, pretty obvious bit of knicking. I love the sound which takes what are in truth some average to good melodies and turn them into something really interesting and varied. Thank fuck he sent Sardy packing. I love the Lock All The Doors, Dying of the Light and Right Stuff trio of songs. So much more enjoyable than his debut, I'm so happy.

Gotta let that initial euphoria fade. I also don't like number scores. This isn't sports.

Nobody can accuse Noel of aping the Beatles on this record. The intro to Girl With X Ray Eyes very slightly reminds me of the intro to I Am The Walrus.

I'm all enthusiastic right now but who knows, I might like songs later that I don't like now and vice versa. Also agree on the number scores. Wtf is the difference between a 7 and a 7.5? "Oh I like this song just a little less than that one, but about 0.5 more than that one"? How do people do that?

I'm going to write my review in 2-3 days. I like to give every album a proper couple of spins and let the initial excitement wash away and see what is left. Stay tuned............................ Can't wait Yawn

I've got this strange feeling: the first five songs flow well, then there's TRS and the last four songs flow very well again. Seems a bit disconnected as an album.

My mum has been playing this album on repeat ever since I shared it with her yesterday. And she doesn't even like Oasis.

Dad wants to give it a few more listens - no doubt he'll like it in time, he got me into Oasis back when I thought only Liam and Noel were in Oasis which was a duo.

Ok - after the first 6/7 listens yesterday, apart from Riverman and a couple of others, I thought he'd f*cked it. Really dissapointed. Then I slept on it and listened again at 4 this morning and it sounded much, much better so here's my scores:
Riverman 11/10 In The Heat 7 X-ray Eyes 7 Lock The F*cking Doors 9 Dying Light 8 Right Stuff 9 Songs The Same 9 Mexican 7 Cant Go Back 7 Mighty I 9
Overall I absofuckinlutely love the sax and the solos and the grooves of Riverman and The Right Stuff. Quite atmospheric in places. Very good LP.
I can imagine the needle being brought down on the vinyl version then Riverman starts...wow...
Solid 8/10

After 2-3 listens (not much time right now): Riverman 9,5/10 ITHOTM 7/10 Girl With The X-Ray Eyes 8,5/10 Lock All The Doors 9/10 The Dying of the Light 9/10 The Right Stuff 7,5/10 While The Song Remains The Same 8,5/10 The Mexican 7,5/10 You Know We Can't Go Back 10/10 (Don't worry. Live Forever is 11/10) Ballad of the Mighty I 9/10
Overall, fucking impressive album. In The Heat of the Moment actually managed to be the worst thing on it, and Noel was NOT kidding about the amount of guitar solos.
