I remember Noel complaining about producers wanted to steal songwriting credits from him or something like that, so it seems like there's a disagreement. A few people have mentioned this but I've not seen the original interview, does anyone have a link??

The question here is why would Noel suddenly have a problem with giving them co-writing credits when he already did so in the past (with SAHITS). Because he's an evil herb hating bastard.

On his new album, Chasing Yesterday, the tracks where we actually pushed him out of his comfort zones and made him write in a new way... I mean, we were the only people who had ever made him improvise on the spot, and we wrote backing tracks for him. Both of those tracks - we wrote the backing tracks, we worked on them for six months waiting for our moment to come, and we finally get him to come to the party. He writes some lyrics and some basslines, and do you know who he thinks wrote those tracks?
Noel?
GC: Yes, him. On his new record, we are co-producers - we're not even writers. The guy's got a bit of a cheek, to be honest. He's not my favourite person in the world at the moment. I kind of still love him, but he's from a different school - that's what I'm saying. He comes from this school where the guy who comes and sings and strums is the god.
Can I laugh at this?

Because he's an evil herb hating bastard. No, he's a diva The cold flesh of the pork and parsley sausage slapped Gaz's cheek like the hand of a jealous and angered lover. He sighed. "Not again..." "This sausage has herbs in it!" shrieked Noel. A stray dog passing by the studio window howled mournfully. "We've discussed this before Noel." sighed Gaz. "You need to get into the studio before midday because that's when the greasy spoon stops serving breakfasts. If you're going to arrive late in the afternoon Pret is the only option and they only do pork and parsley sausage baguettes." Noel's monobrow was clenched into a hateful v. "Some of us quite like the extra flavour..." Gaz ventured hopefully. "I wrote fookin' Don't Look Back In Anger" screamed Noel. "Those lazy bastards can make me a plain Richmond sausage baguette whatever time of the day. DON'T THEY KNOW WHO I AM!?!" Silently, in the background unheard and unseen, Brian lit a spliff. Noel turned to the African nose-flute orchestra who had been stunned into shocked silence by his unexpected fury. "You can all fook right off too. This album's over!" A platinum disc of Papua New Guinea that had been mounted on the wall fell and shattered with a crash as Noel slammed the door shut.

Does he really think The Mexican is "far out" ? Really... As for the rest, i suppose, if true, kinda sad yeah. But is it actually true ? Seems like he thinks he's more than a producer when in fact, what he describes kinda is...
Seems like it's, as he describes, a matter of point of view about who comes up with what.
The description he gives makes me want to hear it, but the way he shits on "pop" music Noel Gallagher makes is kinda weird too. A beautiful tune is a beautiful tune, psychedelic or just plain acoustic.
As far as we know, Noel can write some (and sometimes steal bits), this guy cant.

Just release the album for fuck's sake.
Interesting to hear Gaz say that he thought Noel's management was somehow involved.

I understand they have the right and a case to defend themselves in public BUT how many times does the fridge say Noel Gallagher? I mean come on, it's not really a good look is it even if there is an axe to grind. All a bit playground and ugly for my taste. I found that an awkward read to say the least.

What would you call "writing backing tracks" that then have lyrics put to them? Sure sounds like a co-writer of those tracks to me. And I don't think he's saying The Mexican or The Right Stuff are objectively far out - but that they're "far out" for a Noel Gallagher album. I took it to mean they wouldn't normally be considered far out but that for Noel they were and for Noel to put them on the album was "far out" sounding compared to his typical stuff. I could be reading that wrong, of course.

The album probably WASN'T good enough. If he wanted to take some of the highlights from those sessions and use them elsewhere, his choice. I love The Right Stuff, but if the whole album was like that it'd be a bit much. I encourage Noel to take some chances, but there's a right away about doing it.

Exactly and In that interview the AA don't say the mexican is far out.. they say the right stuff is being considered out side of his comfort zone, they say he cherry picked from them and the mexican was something they did backing track etc for.
