Im glad Noel didnt play it safe with the production on this song. In the 90s this would've became a much bigger ballad with strings and all sorts. In my mind I pictured it that way before I heard it on CY aswell.
I couldn't have been more wrong. It's got a dark feeling to it, its mellow rather than big and all this without losing the great melody that was there from the start.
Great Job Noel!

Disagree, and that was what I was worried about. It sounds just right, has a jazzy vibe to it that disguises itself perfectly as a terrific Noel ballad.

I OOPsed it. The piano really comes into the front and it is amazing. This song is so well produced, Noel and the rest of the background track sounds so mystical.

Massive SOTSOG vibes on this song. This is a good thing. SOTSOG needed a song of this quality to be on it. Would have been a massive hit for Oasis in summer 2000.

The Dying of the Light is one of the most beautiful tracks Noel has ever done. Everything about that track, fucking hell.

Cant really think of a better one, its definitely the best ballad.

But I can't get over those first 6 songs: Riverman ITHOTM TGWTXE Lock All the Doors The Dying of the Light The Right Stuff Woah.

Just as well Noel is so 'creative' these days, that sounds nothing like The Verve....

I had this playing in my mind for the whole night and it shaped my dreams in a dark, enchanting way.
Such a perfect song.

Fantastic production for a fantastic song, fits perfectly in the album. So glad it wasn't given the 'If I Had A Gun' treatment.

Satisfaction is probably the best word to describe my feelings when I listen to it. After IIHAG and its treatment on the record, I didn't have high expectations (I wasn't pessimistic though), but this blew me away. It is so atmospheric and beautiful (the keys, wow... ). I somehow feared it would end up a little cheesy, but it definitely didn't. This followed by The Right Stuff and While The Song Remains The Same...does it get any better? This shows that Noel should produce his future albums all by himself, too.

It keeps getting better every time I listen to it I actually prefer the demo version of it on Youtube...more rawer (plus the video on Youtube for it... is pretty ace)

I've just picked up the 10" vinyl, number 1663. It is only single sided unfortunately. For those that don't have it, I'll let you know how it sounds later on.

My mum will be texting me as soon as she has my copy (she works in town). Should be a really nice addition to the collection
