It's funny how many songs Noel thinks could be the best he's ever written. I first heard it about Masterplan and I don't know that he's improved on that.... D'You Know What I Mean? Don't Go Away The Importance Of Being Idle Little By Little Falling Down If I Had A Gun Ballad Of The Mighty I etc...

Are you saying those are improvements?

Are you saying those are improvements? Yes, some of those songs are honestly just as good or better than The Masterplan lyrically or musically. Are you saying Noel Gallagher peaked in 95 and hasn't written a great song since?

With the three songs we've heard so far (In The Heat of The Moment, Do The Damage, Mighty I), I feel The Dying of The Light might stick out with it's throw back Noel ballad feel. Everything else sounds more hip. I agree, but I'm still very excited for TDOTL. Ever since the demo leaked I've wanted an album version; it's just such a classic NG song.

For me it falls into the "If I Had A Gun" family of songs. You know, the types of songs Noel could write in his sleep that we've heard a million times before. I'm much more interested in new sounds than his old ways. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I tend to agree - I love his new sound, especially BOTMI - but one or two IIHAGs per album isn't a bad thing. I'd also say TDOTL is quite a bit better than IIHAG - if he produces it right.

Then when the studio version was unleashed it sealed it for me as just an okay song. Nothing more, nothing less.

I just wasn't sure what you meant.

Based on my huge experience of expecting things from Gallagher related albums, I expect this album to sound very different to what I expect.

He once also proclaimed "Magic Pie" and "Force of Nature" to be some of the best songs he ever wrote. Hey I like Magic Pie a lot but one of the best songs he's ever written? I chalk that up to 1997 cocaine talk.

It's really been the same dialogue for years...
"This is the best album since Definitely Maybe" Noel
"This tune might be the best I've ever written" Noel
"If you like it, go buy it. If not, don't f-in' buy it!" Liam

Well my point is the songs he says that about before they come out usually don't end up as the "best song I ever wrote". Let the fans decide. Like in the past.

Everything else sounds more hip. Girl With The X-Ray Eyes sounds more or less the same, so at least it won't be alone. It'll be good to still have some classic Noel on the album.

To add to what to Liam said earlier, so far, this album has been unpredictable. I think just about everyone has been surprised, for better or worse.

Everything has been a little different than what came before it. I also don't think it sonically sounds anything like High Flying Birds which was kinda a throwback style sound. You know, classic Noel. I want modern Noel.

I have to wonder if HFB would have sounded more like this album without bringing Sardy in to finish those tracks?

Then Noel never needs to use that overrated hack L.A. producer ever again.

I think we can expect comercial success, Mighty I fulfilled my expectations in terms of youtube views. I was worried at first, but then suddenly that viewcount exploded and beat ITHOTM. I'm satisfied so far with Noel's style. The only flaw I've noticed are the audibility of some lyrics, between lines in Do The Damage and Mighty I, they're a little muffled under the surrounding instruments, but that's hardly an issue once we get the official lyrics.
