"The band were listed in the Guinness World Records book in 2010 for “Longest Top 10 UK Chart Run by a Group” after an unprecedented run of 22 top 10 hits in the UK" and this as well "The band also holds the Guinness World Record for being the most successful act in the UK between the years 1995 and 2005, spending 765 weeks in the Top 75 singles and albums charts" I think the manics have more top 40 uk charts hits than Oasis but i dont know if they vould have the record.

the manics may have more singles but look at the record top 10 it says and manics aint had many of them at all. In the uk there as been no bigger band than oasis in the last 30 years simple as that really and alan mcgee once said that people dont realise just how big they actually got worldwide and that the press liked to hide but also used them to sell there articles etc , he also stated that in japan they were bigger than anybody , the following was huge.
im suprised at noel not really pushing this album , just seems content now which tells me hes settling for something else in a few years time.

Hello. I am from the United States of America. You may have heard of this place. I am a huge fan of Oasis and the Noel solo material, and have been meaning to sign up on this forum for quite some time!
Noel (and Oasis) in the charts in the UK always fascinated me. By the looks of things on the charts that I read, nearly all the Oasis singles were huge hits. But then again, sometimes a band has a big enough following where songs and albums chart without getting mainstream airplay.
FOR EXAMPLE - Jack White has two number one albums here in the US, but he only gets mild airplay on alternative rock radio. You don't hear his music on the popular top 40 stations ever.
I guess what I'm asking is..are you guys hearing songs like In The Heat of the Moment on radio stations that are playing all of the "hottest music" today? Would it be common for an 18 year old to know songs like "The Shock of the Lightening" or "Lyla" even if they weren't big Oasis fans?
In the U.S., you still hear Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova constantly on rock stations. Once in a while you'll hear something more underground like Live Forever or Don't Go Away (i bet that sounds funny to a lot of you). Just looking for perspective!
Finally, I'm glad that this new album is doing well, and hope it as much success as the last one. There are some seriously great moments on here.

In The Heat Of The Moment was not, as far as I know, played on the so called 'hit-shows'. It did however get a lot of airplay on popular alternative radio stations and I've heard Ballad Of the Mighty in similar situations. The singles did't chart particularly well compared to Oasis singles but the album was number 1 by a long way regardless. A few of my friends who are 19-20 have heard Lyla before but I think that's because it was uses in Fifa 06, rather than because they actively listened to it. I don't think it's common for young non-fans or casual fans to be familiar with their later work.

Thanks. Always curious about the perspective from across the sea.
I do think that it is funny that so many people tend to think that Americans have "shit taste" in music. I think that might be because so many of the plasticy, industry created artists come from here. Sure, 13 year old girls are going to like acts like Nikki Minaj or whatever, but we all seem to agree as adults that artists like The Beatles or Oasis are what the real deal is.
I saw Noel in Boston back in 2011 and the place was PACKED. It was a great show.
I really don't think Riverman is the right choice for the next single. I love it, but its important to pick radio friendly singles, that way people buy the album and get to hear gems like Riverman. I'd probably pick You Know We Can't Go Back or Lock All The Doors. Another solid single could keep this album afloat in the charts for a while

It's good to hear that he can still sell out shows both sides of the Atlantic as well. You Know We Can't Go Back would be an excellent single.

Doesn't matter what he picks, it will not chart well anyway.

Is there a possibility that Noel will release a non-album single? He must have a fair few songs left over and some of them must be pretty good.

If you are going to hear any Oasis tunes these days in America, it'll be those two plus Don't Look Back In Anger. Make no mistake though, no songs 20 years old get played on the radio constantly unless you are a Titan of rock like The Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin or The Who.

#6 this week? Not bad. Let's keep CY in the top 30 for the summer where the sales will increase with T in The Park and other festivals.
