It's annoying the vinyl single doesn't come with a download code for both tracks.
I know it's only £2 but when you've already paid £5 plus postage it feels a bit shitty

More what I expected the new material to sound (albeit a b-side), there could have been a cool bass/drum break after the second chorus, but it just moves on. What happened to Noel's guitar solos? Even those on HFB 1 were brief.

I found the single download on rutracker, for those who wants a better quality than YouTube (the official single version is a lot better, mainly the bass on both songs).
After listening the chorus a thousand times, my thoughts:
"Be my butterfly, please don't flutter by You do the damage kid If loves what it's all about a soul I can show you now You do the damage kid"
Last two lines, thanks to gdforever.
WE REALLY NEED A LYRIC VIDEO. Thanks, Noel.

Do the Damage is at #23 on iTunes UK. Which is great, isn't it? Any chance of a great chart? Probably It will be the highest charted B-side by the High Flying Birds.

The dancing I do while it's playing is definitely more Austin Powers than Bond to be fair. Just wanted to say that, because of this comment, I'll NEVER listen to Do The Damage again without remembering Austin Powers and laughing.

It sounds - I know it isn't, but it sounds like - "If love's what it's all about about, a soul i can shop me now." Or "it's so like a choppy now". There's a definite "pee" or "bee" sound before the last line.

This also sounds like that Fatboy Slim song. Right about now, it's the funk soul brothers

Am I the only one thinking juggernaut? Seems fitting and sounds like it to me. "If love's what it's all about it's so like a juggernaut Will do the damage, kid" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juggernaut

Vinyl or digital download is the only way to buy music often enough vinyl comes with a digital download. CDs are for fat 16 yr olds... fuck you & your pretentious bullshit. If I want my music to be on a small plastic disc instead of a big vinyl disc then what's it to you? God some of the people on here really get to me sometimes.

That is indeed pretentious. although i like vinyl i despise digital downloads and i STILL buy cds simply to have lossless quality digital files. Coz you dont travel with vinyl under your arms, do you ? And when you have quality (and expensive yes) speakers at home, the different is clearly noticeable, you even discover parts that are completely cut by compression.

I'm not sure about the "flutter by" bit. It sounds like "alibi" to me

DTD features the most generic vocal melodies ever done by Noel...
"Maybe the dream that we had is gone" = it's gettin better man
the bit "If love’s what it’s all about It’s soul I can show you now You do the damage kid" reminds me of "the days are long and the nights will throw you away, cos the sun dont shine" melody...
So basically he is plagiarising himself, worse than ever.
That aside, the sax sounds cool, the mood reminds me of that in freaky teeth, mature and a bit obscure.

Eh. I dont hate either the single or this b-side, but they're certainly lackluster. I prefer Do The Damage just because there's no na na na's.

If it works, it works. Practically every Wonderwall rendition has done well.

No. He never plagiarised his own vocal melodies before. Let alone putting 3 of his songs in one song. I'm ok with the rest. I even admire the other self plagiarising. But this is one is blatanty uninspired. Damn. I even thought I cleared it. I said "worse than ever". And no, the last ten years weren't a bad time.

Just because you arbitrarily draw the line at vocal melodies doesn't mean we all have to. I think this is a solid bside, not nearly as offensive as you're making it out to be. Anyways, the album is called Chasing Yesterday ffs. I don't mind a few homages here and there to his earlier work.

I see Noel as the David Lynch of music. out of his league, going places, but always sticking to his roots, re-working the same stories all the time. he knows he has never got it totally right, but it was never about being right. it was about evolution. David Lynch has the red curtains. Noel has the capo.
