Anyone who thinks album artwork isn't important is kidding themselves. In fact it's fundamental to the entire album "package". I'd go as far as saying it's even more important these days, as it's something of a lost art in the modern era of digital downloads. It harks back to the 60's and the dawn of creative album covers as part of the entire experience of buying, exploring and enjoying an album. Imagine Revolver, Sgt. Pepper or Led Zeppelin III without their iconic artwork. They'd be different albums altogether. It's also probably the main reason I don't download albums and will buy CD's as long as I'm able too. Album artwork and creativity is still vital for the medium otherwise a fundamental part of music will die and people will just become lazy and stick out any old X-factor style garbage with just a photo of the artist on the cover. Incidentally, I understand peoples reservation about the new album art. It's hardly the most exciting image in the world, and I don't think it does Noel any favours either as it seems to age him about 15 years. It's alright though. I remember being disappointed at Noel's last album cover, and the frustrating part of it was I felt that every one of the singles had far better artwork. Think about the amount of classic albums that have really shit artwork though man. I'm not saying its not important but in this instance, it really isn't that big of a deal. I think it's alright anyway personally.

I'm thinking about The Smiths... great band but appalling artworks.
On the contrary, there are plenty of cheap/crappy pseudo-metal LPs with awesome cover arts...

Some of The Smiths artwork is great in my opinion. Obscure photos of some of Morrisseys heroes. Very distinctive, if nothing else.

I'm praying to the lord almighty that there is some Japanese, US or European Edition with different artwork. Anything but the two that are already available. It will look embarrassing in my iTunes, as far as I know Noel is not an R&B artist.

I like the album cover but the single is just a national insurance card, the red and blue but I hope he doesn't start f?£king about and changing artwork.

I think the Smiths artwork is great, fits the music very nicely and stands out because of its distinctive style. You could say the same about all the Stone Roses artworks, just shit paintings with some Arial Black text. But its distinctive. Its artwork man.

Distinctive? yes, for sure. Do they fit their music? Well, I don't know. Honestly some of them are quite good, but I can think of a few atrocious ones (Hand In Glove? Dear god...) Stone Roses artworks are crap too...

Fucking horrible artwork. Did Brian Cannon really pruduce this? Maybe Brian lost his touch? Has he made any decent artwork since the 1990s?

But it's atrocious, Noel would have a lot to do with it so not placing the blame solely on Brian but the first album's artwork pisses all over this and that was pretty uninspiring. This looks like it could be an X-Factor's runner's up debut album cover or something...

I'm thinking about The Smiths... great band but appalling artworks. Sorry mate, that's just wrong. I've got several Smiths and Stone Roses artwork pieces decorating my house. I think the visual side played a big role in each of the bands success story. Just like with Oasis, the Brian Cannon years, 94-98. Still, I'm MAJORLY disappointed by the artwork for Chasing Yesterday.

I do agree that those artworks contributed to the creation of the band's history but no, thanks, I'll decorate my house with something different. Maybe something by Storm Thorgerson...

Nevermind, just thought I had to intervene. Storm Thorgerson's great, I agree. I've got an Animals LP framed hanging on the wall behind me, while I'm typing this. Speaking of Pink Floyd, the artwork for The Endless River is what I call appalling!

I asked Brian Cannon if the black/white photo with Noel is in fact the album cover, he didn't reply...it's about time we ratchet up the intensity and kidnap him. eva, get the chloroform ready. Gracias.

What makes anyone think that this is "temporary" or unofficial artwork in any way? Its all over the facebook announcement, his website, itunes, etc. What more of a confirmation do you need? Honestly, to me it immediately made me think of Off The Wall's artwork, and I wouldnt at all be surprised if thats a vibe he likes us getting.

So Noel standing awkwardly in front of a dirty wall = Album cover in 2015 does it?
Tragically the cover would look ten times better without Noel on it.
