Going to see The Smile on July in a huge botanic garden in Madrid. I could die afterwards and wouldn't regret a thing

I was lucky to be at the New York listening party last night for The Smile's new LP Wall of Eyes. We got to hear the entire album in surround sound and all of Paul Thomas Anderson's collaborations with Radiohead/Yorke/Smile were shown. Beautiful new album. Beautiful videos. They sold vinyl, CDs and cassettes of the album 2 weeks prior to the release to the surprise of us all.
Making of the album in Abbey Road Wall of Eyes Friend of a Friend Anima Present Tense The Numbers Daydreaming
They also snuck in a hidden track not yet released called "Tiptoe". It came on right after the album playback with a title card that read "What's This Then..?" I was hoping it was a hidden track on the album but isn't. It's a beautiful yet haunting piano ballad with There Will Be Blood style strings by Jonny. Tremendous stuff. Can't wait to get it officially one day.

Radiohead have to be almost as polarising as Oasis.
My brother is a major fan - even had a role as an extra in one or two of their videos back in the day. I literally cannot get through even one of their albums. My brother says pretty much the same about Oasis.
I went to school with Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway and Thom Yorke. I remember them practicing at school but no, I didn't tape anything ... I was way too busy listening to The Jam!

I didn't even realize the Smile's second album is on the way. I'm going to buy it next week. I really like their debut. It's a beautiful piece of music in a dark and melancholic way. Open the Floodgates is up there with Radiohead's best work.

So what's happening with Radiohead then? The Smile seem more than just a mere side project. There won't be a new Radiohead album before 2026 at the earliest. The Smile is gonna be very busy in 2024 touring the globe and possibly releasing even more material. We know they have 4 other songs done but not released. Ed is finishing his second album now. Due in September. He said he will tour it since his debut album world tour got shutdown before it even began due to COVID. I'm sure Jonny is hired to score the new Paul Thomas Anderson film staring Leo, Joaquin and Regina Hall. We all know making a Radiohead album is never fun for the band. It usually takes years and a lot of pressure. That is why The Smile works for Tom and Jonny. They are free of that albatross and the results say they are thriving. I do believe we will get another Radiohead album. Its just gonna be another 3 years.....

Hypothetically, if A Moon Shaped Pool was the last album, that's an impressive way to go regardless I'm not the biggest Radiohead fan but I see the beauty in it, if not feel it as much as others. Sonically, that album is what modern acts should aspire to sound like. I don't mean in the orchestration or musicality of that album, but the fact that it isn't caught up in the loudness wars and has very dynamic production like albums of a bygone era. Every Radiohead album does it and they are the best produced act out there.

During the show he said he felt honored and privileged to be in a band (Radiohead) that was about to turn 40 years old. He spoke in present tense, not past. He said they are just doing their own thing at the moment but doesn’t see why they wouldn’t eventually get all together and make music again. He said it’s almost near that time again. Granted That’s still 2-4 years away.

Maybe it opens up on the vinyl a bit, but not a ton.

Unfortunate because you can tell Nigel's mixes were very well done.

I've been listening to Wall Of Eyes since it was released, and it's an album that just keeps getting better over time. The songs are very multidimensional and beautiful. Excellent guitar work and production. It's difficult for me to pick the best song on the album because there's many candidates. The only song I'm not sure about yet is the title song. I'd definitely give it a listen if you're a Radiohead fan and haven't listened to the Smile yet.

I love how varied the material is. The title track, Teleharmonic, Read The Room, Friend of a Friend, Bending Hectic, etc.
