In short, the Oasis that came out in 1997 sounded vastly different from the MG Oasis of 1995 and the US market was having none of it. They're loss overall. think it was probably a case of them just riding the tidal wave of success and not really thinking about things properly because they were were caught up in the moment and high on drugs, in an ideal world they wouldve walked away after knebworth and let things calm down abit, they got abit too cocky and they tripped up, theydidnt have the material for another great album that soon after MG and they wernt in a great frame of mind to make the material they did use as good as couldve been.

By Be Here Now, Oasis wasn't catering for anyone other than their ultimate fans... It lost them a lot of fans but it's still one hell of an album.

A sober released album version of Be Here Now would probably look something like this -
1. DYKWIM 2. Stay Young 3. Don't Go Away 4. Stand By Me 5. IHITIK 6. My Sister Lover 7. Going Nowhere 8. The Fame 9. Be Here Now 10. AATW 11. Its Getting Better Man 10. AATW reprise
and singles would probably have been
1. Stay Young 2. Don't Go Away (coinciding with Di's death) 3. Stand By Me 4. AATW

I think many would disagree with you on The Fame, which is far better than most of the tracks on BHN.

Always loved The Fame and The Fever. Not necessarily better than anything on BHN because there is no really weak track on BHN, but both easily album material (or at least Masterplan material!).

Yawn.
No thanks.

Stay Young as lead single? Yawn. No thanks. From an A&R point of view I personally would have gone with DYKWIM or IH,IT,IK as the UK lead single, with DGA followed by IH, IT, IK kicking off things in the USA, assuming that the track list hadn't changed to the album. This would still have been after some different studio decisions and a rescheduled promotion & tour itinerary, but I think we have covered most people's opinions on that already

Am I the only one who looks more forward to have Knebworth in decent quality than a few demos? I think that people expect a little too much from it.

I remember in another thread talking about having DGA as the lead single and someone shot me down saying "You don't release ballads as a lead single" My response to that is, piss off - the song was arguably the best on the record and the acoustic with orchestration (minus all the electric guitar layers) was incredible.
Don't Go Away SHOULD of been the first single in the US - without question.

I've never gotten the love for Stay Young. Don't get me wrong, it's a good song....but it's a fairly typical Oasis song that Noel was churning out by the pound. There aren't many songs on Be Here Now I'd replace it with. Maybe Magic Pie. I personally believe The Fame, especially with Liam's vocals, would have been the far superior song. Stay Young is just cliche dribble, while the Fame contains probably the most honest autobiographical lyrics of Noel's career.

the acoustic with orchestration (minus all the electric guitar layers) was incredible. Is this the album version with the electric guitar removed? Or the demo version or Noel's solo version? I would love to hear the album versions of Don't Go Away and Stand Be My with all the electric guitars removed if anyone knows how to create these or can link them up if already created?

I think you might really like this thread! live4ever.proboards.com/thread/80385/oops-mixes-hidden-sounds-songsThere's one for Don't Go Away somewhere in there too. It's not exactly what you were asking for, as Liam's vocals are almost completely removed too, but it's certainly interesting to hear what it sounds like without the overdone guitars.

Nice one Mustard, that's mint!!
Always wish with Be Here Now they had removed a lot of the electric stuff and added loads of live horns and strings. Stand By Me and Don't Go Away minus all the electric guitars but added strings and horns would've been great but the real killer for me would've been It's Gettin' Better (Man!) done with lots of live horns and rawer guitars like something of Exile On Main Street (think in the style of All Down the Line).

When I first heard those fan altered versions of the songs I was really annoyed because it became clear how messed up Noel really was at the time. Behind all the mess of guitar layers there is genius.

I don't really care that much about Knebworth to be honest. It wasn't even their best performance, and we have plenty of better bootlegs from that era.

The remaster linked above is different to the Radio Supernova one, I have heard both and they are both really good.
