that’s why you’ll never hear a song as majestic as Sit & Wonder in his solo career. I think Verve are the only band who could make that song work and still warrant further listening. It's such an odd, drawn out piece of mumbling fuzzy music (objectively) but in the Verve's hands, it becomes something pretty good.

Finally got around to actually listening to Born to be Strangers and it feels very David Brent. For some reason it also kind of reminds me, weirdly, of Devil Woman by Cliff Richard- I think it’s just the drum loop/beat.

This album release was definitely rushed through.
When he was in US with Liam it was nowhere near finished or even mentioned.
On the back of his popularity at Finsbury/LCCC it’s been steamrollered through whilst his name is in the forefront of the younger audience that haven’t heard him.
It’s all about the timing, as was his probable pr stunt on Soccer AM.
He’s a bright boy.

Realizing how far off Richard is from his early sounds.

He said in May at the San Fran show that the album would be out in Oct and that the guitarist with him was on it. I imagine a lot of it was already recorded at that point and they spent the summer mixing it?

Fair play to him if he was working to deadlines.

I can't get into his solo work... Well, Alone With Everybody is great but I don't like the rest par a few tunes (probably some Verve leftovers).
I've tried to listen to his last album twice but it was impossible to finish both times.

Just listened to BTBS. It sounds like a very flat and uninspiring b-side. The production is so boring, and lyrically generic. I fear this may be Richards worst solo effort
