Good to know there's a new album on the horizon. I liked the last one (more so the second half, definitely stronger than the first), even though the synth pop elements were a bit much at times, I still commend him for doing something different, as the overwrought string heavy ballads weren't working.

I assume 'Birds Fly' is finally a studio release of the unreleased pre-Urban Hymns demo 'Birds Fly to Warmer Climates' featured on this uncirculating tape: www.discogs.com/Richard-AshcroftVerve-Top-Secret-Demos-Sept-96/release/11659047Strangely, more than 20 years onwards, this guy is putting an Urban Hymns outtake on a pivotal position in the tracklist of his 'strongest collection of songs to date'. Let's sum up the songs he released solo but were demoed or at least attempted during the UH sessions. And the following is just what I can recollect right now: - A Song for the Lovers - New York - Brave New World - C'Mon People - Everybody - Lord I've Been Trying - Simple Song - Music Is Power (might be the demo 'Music' featured on the aforementioned tape) What angers me is that last year's reissue could have been massive. Luckily, McCabe did leak some outtakes. EDIT: I still have not lost my faith, however. Looking forward to this.

Who's buying the cassette? Seriously though, is there something about the quality of cassette tape which is why its revived, or is it just a nostalgia thing?

Nice to see Richard is subconsciously still attached to Verve by using the ASIH album cycle font once more!

Nice to see Richard is subconsciously still attached to Verve by using the ASIH album cycle font once more! Nice find, never noticed this. I got almost all of the early Verve releases up until 1996 on 12" (except for the original A Northern Soul pressing, which is a bit pricey) and they look BEAUTIFUL. Brian Cannon and Michael Spencer Jones, and that's the analogy to Oasis, definitely helped creating the magic back then. But honestly, Ashcroft using a classic font is one thing, and might be a nice nod, but his artwork since Human Conditions has been really awful. Just like the music. I sometimes wonder how the quality of the artwork (which is obviously a matter of taste) might be connected with the quality of the musical content (matter of taste, as well...). But I'm quite sure there's some kind of connection.

I wish he'd play more Verve songs than the same ones (sonnet, drugs, lucky man, history, space and time, bittersweet) every time. They are brilliant but he plays the same ones over and over.

No new single to wet our ears. That fucker! Strange times when you people announce albums with no single to listen to. I think he will be pull an arctic monkeys and not releasing any singles until the album drops... I am really getting a "These People" part 2 vibe from all of this...

Never see this song mentioned. One of my favourites. I fell in love with the Human Conditions album last summer, just heard it like I hadn't since it came out and really enjoyed it. Listened to it many times over.
