Anybody who says the Libertines don't have the songs has obviously never listened to Up The Bracket. Sure, no reason to hype them like they were the next Oasis, but they are still better than 99% of the indie rock stuff that started around 2006, including Arctic Monkeys in my humble opinion. Cheers.

Ah come on, The Pogues and Spititualized supporting this bunch of over hyped crap. What's the world coming too, this can't be real. yeah, we get it - you don't like the Libertines. Thanks. Ah come on it's no fun if you don't have a hater in the bunch.
Thanks.

That's just Vulgar, Up The Bracket had a few tunes but not enough to warrant the hype. Monkeys piss all over them, so don't be a silly boy.

He's a modest lad is Turner. Five classic albums and last shadow puppets and his solo mini album prove even when he's been modest he's wrong.

Oh I assure you I have heard that album. As I mentioned in a previous post from 2002-04 I was a disciple of the NME, they said jump I asked how high. Whatever they said was cool or good, I believed and preached. I went to see bands in tiny venues without hearing of their songs just because they NME said they were the next big thing some were good (Killers, KOL, The Cooper Temple Clause) some where flash in the pans but still decent (22-20's, Datsuns, Hot Hot Heat) But I can honestly hand on heart say the Libertines were thee worst of the entire bunch and cannot believe they are still get dragged up now. Even back then when I worshipped the NME in my blind teenage years I still couldn't understand why people liked them even when the NME was shoved its cock up Pete Dohety's arse, trying to make him into some poet for the generation. I brought Up the Bracket and tried to liked it, I gave it more time than I've ever gave any album because I wanted to like it and try to see what this big secret was but everytime it fell miles short of anything close to resembling an era defining record. So just to sum up I have heard Up the Bracket and I don't think the Libertines have the songs; Music is all about opinions and the above is mine

I would rather them just make an album. Getting slightly sick of split up bands getting together for gigs when they are capable of putting out new music. Blur are the worst offenders. I really loved Up the Bracket when it came out and thought the second one was decent. Bababyshambles first two albums were really good too (haven't heard their third). Its kind of a shame Pete didn't use the Babyshambles songs in the Libertines, it would have added to their legacy.

I actually meant the song Up The Bracket. Absolutely amazing.
"Five classic albums"
Now, come on, AM have one classic album and that's their debut. Last two were good, FWN was good, but apart from the number of albums I see no reason why AM should be better than the Libertines. All personal taste in the end of course, I used to dislike the Libertines as well, grew to love them. To each their own.

I wouldn't say they're awful, i just don't really like them that much, personally. Up the Bracket is great...i compare it to Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stones in its roughness and listenabilty - it's kinda hard to get into some of the songs but once it clicks it's really good. Thanks. p.s. why the fuck are we even talking about the Arctic monkeys? oh, yeah...

Sorry mate but thats just absolutely laughable, it really is. Even more ludicrous than the dick heads who rate Wacko Jacko above the King. Each to their own though and all that, I just find in hard to believe people seriously think that way. Must be tone fucking deaf, thats all i can assume.

They are either trolling or tone deaf, Libertines better then the Monkeys. Silly talk.
Millions of records sold, tons of awards, Number 1 in America, selling out gigs everywhere they go, Turner is a genius while Doherty is a fat pale skin junkie who puts a few Bryon/Tony Hancock lines in his songs and a few fools buy NME's paiting him as a legend.
To Vulgar, only one classic album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, Humbug, SIAS and AM are better then anything Doherty has ever released.

So is it wrong to think Alex Turner AND Pete Doherty are great lyricists and the Arctic Monkeys AND The Libertines are great bands? Not wrong, everyone is entitled to think what they like. It's just laughable to me, in my opinion. Alex Turner IS a great lyricist, Doherty just isn't in the same league, not even close. And the Monkeys sound is a LOT better than the Libertines, they have achieved a lot more. Libertines were an ok band, Arctic Monkeys are an amazing band, simple as that.

But still, there is something about Libs that AM dont have. Something that Oasis also have. Those bigger than life songs but i dont think that can understand someone who is not fan. Remember last reunion and when Tell The King started. There was something in the air, crowd went mental. You can feel youth and great times and drugs and love in there songs. AM are good, very good but nothing more. They dont have that x factor. I am fan of AM but im not obsessed with them and i dont think that there are many people that are. They have many fans but not much that crazy fans with tatoos of the band and everything.
