Kinda funny that Phoenix and The Strokes are both headlining that festival. Both bands have a lot in common. Strokes has slowly gotten worse and Phoenix as progressively gotten better.
I've said it before Comedown Machine isn't necessarily bad but it is really boring. A couple okay songs but nothing to hold on to.

The Strokes are the American version of Oasis. Only ten times worse. But both released classic debut albums and very good second albums. After that both are very hit and miss.

Indeed although Albert did dabble in heroin. Strokes and Oasis are similar is a couple ways, at least from a career arc point of view. Each band's first two albums their best and their debuts gave rock n' roll a kick up the ass. Both of the band's third albums are pretty indulgent (I prefer BHN) and each of the band's forth albums carry bright spots/ideas but there are a couple complete shit tracks on each of them. By album five both bands seem pretty bland and end up releasing their worst album (HC and Comedown Machine). I hope the Strokes can rebound like Oasis did with DBTT. That said even when Oasis were "struggling" on SOTSOG and HC their bright spots very clearly out shined the Strokes' highlights in my opinion. HC may be dull but SCYHO, LBL. and SB are better songs than anything on Comedown Machine in my opinion.

I loved the Strokes but you couldn't get behind them as much as Oasis, they didn't give good interview as the Gallagher's or Rocked as hard. First off Is this it isn't half the album Definitely Maybe is, come on do The Strokes have anything as classic as Live Forever, Slide Away or Rock N Roll Star on Is this it, no chance. Oasis were working class lads who dreamt of been Rock n Roll Stars. While the Strokes were rich boys who didn't have to fight for much. Plus Oasis had WTSMG for a follow up which is considered a classic while The Strokes second album is considered a disappointment by many (I think its underrated myself) Oasis Sold fucking Millions while The Strokes barely sold 3 million albums with one album. But Both bands did struggle after the second albums, so they have that in common.

I know this is blasphemous on this forum but I prefer Is This It to DM Christ!!! *runs and jumps out the nearest window* I love Is This IT but Definitely Maybe is fucking Definitely Maybe. But It's your choice and I bet that many would probably choose it over DM. I think it might be what album had the most impact on your teenage years for me. Definitely Maybe got me into Guitar Music mostly indie/Rock music I would have been 14 at the time. I still don't think a band has released a rock album as great as it since even Oasis themselves. The Strokes debut was such a breath of fresh air cause you had awful Rap Mental and Travis and Stereophonics just out balding each other with shitty releases in the UK plus the pop invasion. Although in Rap you had Dr Dre and Eminem releasing some awesome stuff. But the Strokes were the cool hip band singing about girls and boozing up with a cool New York Swagger. Then you had that whole New Rock Revolution with the White Stripes, The Hives, Black Rebel Motorcycle club, Datsuns, The Vines etc.. great time for music again.

Plus Arcade Fire was on the horizon. A great time for music.

KOL were awesome back then (still think that debut album and the second album were such great listens pity they went MOR on us). Doves another band that got lost in the shuffle (although they had two number 1 albums). Lost Souls was a excellent debut along with QOTSA's Rated R that got me through an awful 2000. The Last Broadcast is another gem as is Some Cities. Great Live act as well. Interpol had a awesome debut and fine follow up but after that it was downhill although I'm hearing great things about their new album. Sigur Ros and Bright Eyes were great back then.

Strokes back in the studio?!?!?!? File that under who gives a shit. The sun set on this band a decade ago. Now it's just a lifeless brand. Lifestyle music for Williamsburg.

Weird to read such a post on an Oasis forum. How old are you? Do you remember what people did say on Oasis from 2000 onwards ... by the way because of bands like the Strokes.

Oh I'm well aware of Oasis' reputation both before and after 2000. The Strokes in my opinion had an epic drop off.
