Oh shit, didn't know we had a Led Zep thread on here, nice one.
What can I say, I got into Led Zep around June of this year, and I haven't looked back since
My top 5 would go a little like this:
1. Kashmir 2. Achilles Last Stand 3. The Rain Song 4. The Lemon Song 5. Since I've Been Loving You
Just like finding Oasis for the first time, and finally 'getting' the Beatles a couple of years ago, with Led Zep, they hit you like a train and you think 'why haven't I been listing to this my entire life?!' On a par with the Beatles imo in terms of the talent the band possessed. Whilst the Beatles' talent lay in just raw songwriting prowess, Led Zep were just an insanely good band of musicians, fronted by the finest vocalist rock has ever seen.

I know they're loved and legends and all and I really like a few of their songs, but I just can't get into them. It's not for me I guess.

To me and all my friends and pretty much a generation or 3. There the BEATLES , simply put they can do it all without needing session musicians like some bands ....if you wanted heavy , they did it , accoustic , hard rock , straight rock , psycedallic , you name it they played it , reggae there concerts were legendary , there ACCOUSTIC sets in middle of show are things of legend ,,, there basically the soundtrack to most rockers lives aged 34 and up ..... But that don't mean crap , I like the Beatles I don't love ...thsts what makes music great , yet we all here love oasis , good enough

Oh and To the haters .....yea they knocked . And they've been knicked by every hard rock band since .... Here is the difference nobody took a zep riff and made it better. Thsts impossible ...but they took some obscure stuff and made it sonically Unreal. They may have took a riff. But the lyrics and the drumming and all else they made there own own .

Absolutely brilliant band. I'm glad Robert turned down the half billion pounds, if Zep ever were to reunite again it shouldn't be for the money.

Jagger has pointing and "the rooster," Plant has... ...hands on hips and rather effeminate hand gestures oh, and... fuck yeah!

Absolutely brilliant band. I'm glad Robert turned down the half billion pounds, if Zep ever were to reunite again it shouldn't be for the money. Much to his credit. Plant has moved on something I know Lennon2217 appreciates ( seriously not taking the piss ). Plant told jimmy if he has a ACCOUSTIC project in mind deal him in that's a direct comment he claims jimmy walked away from that , I believe him and im a page lover Why page is so bent on reuniting after years of saying there is no ZEP without BONZO is beyond me , plant is into ACCOUSTIC and celtic stuff now , new age , he's moved on , plus he can't hit those notes , Zep of all the bands people clamour about for a reunion don't need the money , and plant rightfully has said the time is gone for thst , and I agree Zep and the who were bands if you really listen were driven by the drums ,page more than pete is a guitar genius but bonzo drove that band ... Plant has proved its not about the money , I will always love jimmy to me he is the best Guitarist ever .... better than JIMI better than Clapton , better than eddie v. To me that is But here , he is wrong. I had my chance to see Zep...." zep over AMERICA 80." Then bonzo died that was my shot ,I saw them at live aid and at MSG as a 3 piece ( plant , page jones ) with jason Bonham and with phil Collins and tony Thompson at live aid , it was close , it's was real good , but not the real thing. And I'm glad robert remembers why there is no more LED zep ...the motor( bonzo ) is i longer there

Must be an exciting time for big Zep fans who bought the box sets. Lots of nice stuff, I'm sure. But where do you put all these things? In a closet somewhere? I'm assuming if you buy them, as with the Oasis boxes, you want to be able to display them nicely somewhere.

I must say, I really like In Trough the Out Door, I like the diversity on it, it's a bit different from their other albums, but I have to say that Hot Dog is shit and Carouselambra is too overblow.

Not that it really matters because this was always an "albums band" but it's so funny the neglect "Fool In The Rain" gets from Led Zeppelin in terms of putting it on their various Greatest Hits/Best of compilations. It's obviously one of their highlights from 1976 to 1980. I constantly hear it on classic rock radio and in bars.

Wow, didn't know there was a Led Zeppelin thread on here ! Love, love that band. At their best, they were up there with the likes of the Kinks, the Stones, almost The Beatles.
My favourite has to be Kashmir, but at the moment, I'm on a Californian mood.

Much like Liam, Robert's vocals changed a lot in the 11 years of being in Led Zeppelin. Those heavenly pipes were not the same come 1975 or 1978. They got deeper. More gruff. The years and partying were taking a toll for sure.

They got deeper. More gruff. The years and partying were taking a toll for sure. Oh I know, I've read great long articles on the decline of Robert Plant's voice. The parties, as you mentioned, and his singing style soon hacked away at those pipes. Also, it's said he used to get ill a lot, and singing through that, as he no doubt would have done, is supposed to be really bad for the voice. There's a tale I read of them doing a gig in Wolverhampton or some such place, in the early seventies, and for some reason Plant decided to hike there, and, it being England, it pissed it down on him the whole way. Plant caught a cold and was in a bad way when he finally got there, but still went on anyway (probably still wore a skimpy shirt unbutton). Apparently, his voice was never the same after that. Also like Liam, I think his voice changing was, for a little while, actually quite a good thing. I mean, can you imagine Kashmir sung without that extra rasp Plant had developed by late 74/75? And his vocal for Achilles Last Stand is one of my absolute favourite from him (sung from a wheel chair no less!). But he just sounds flat on Fool In The Rain, to me. I don't know if he would have sung it more in tune had he done it a few years before or not, but it just doesn't sound right to me.
