But... - We will definitely get a Noel Gallagher album this year. I strongly believe that. - I doubt Tame Impala release anything (although I wish they would). Kevin Parker has been recording between tour stops but has also mentioned taking a break since it has been nonstop touring since September 2012. - In terms of Radiohead, I'd say 60/40 an album appears before 2015. They are incredibly secretitive and you never know when you will wake up one morning and find it totally released online like In Rainbows and King of Limbs. GREAT band.

Lennon2217 I'm sure that we are going to get a NG's album too. Hope that the break that Kevin mentioned was a break to record although I doubt that. Yeah, I forgot how "random" Radiohead is. Waiting for a new album! Something new from Guns n' Roses would be good to. I'm not a fan, but Chinese Democracy first part was very good. I totally forgot Coldplay. Waiting for the new album too, definitely out this year. Maybe we have something new from Kula Shaker too? I hope...

I'd like to think The Stone Roses will release something this year - they're very unconventional, so may be they might surprise us like David Bowie did last year? Would also love to think Blur would release an album this year, but a Damon Albarn solo record will do just fine for the moment. Would like to think Fleet Foxes and Twilight Sad release this year also (mimmi, is there confirmation for the Sad?). Nothing's really been confirmed for Noel or Coldplay I don't think? If so, they will drop a record towards the latter end of the year. I feel with Noel I'm guaranteed quality. Not expecting anything adventurous, but I'd be happy with a standard of tunes similar to High Flying Birds. Interested about Coldplay - thought the last album was poor, and for me, their first bad album. I'd like to see them go back to their melancholic tones of earlier years - the album Viva La Vida was excellent due to its variety but the band have been a bit too sprightly and happy of late. I remember when many of their tunes were influenced by the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen (particularly the b-sides) rather than Rihanna - hoping for the former style rather than latter. U2 is the most fascinating release for me - it's make or break time. I think they seriously dropped the ball on their last album so hopefully they have been mulling over it all for the last 5 years and release something brilliant. I'm not expecting another Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby, but I hope they surprise us with a new sound again. Perhaps for a band that are now in their early 50s, that is wishful thinking but I can dream. Bruce Springsteen is the first one to release an album set for January 14th - usually guaranteed quality with his records of late so should be good. Embrace's return is waaaaaaaay overdue, while I'm looking forward to Elbow's album, particularly as their last two have been really great. That band are so good live, I'm half expecting them to headline Glastonbury. - Noel and Damon are both going to deliver the goods at some point this year. I am VERY excited for both their albums! I expect Damon's album to vary in many genres and directions. Noel will boringly play it safe but like yo said, you know we are going to get a quality album for sure. - Coldplay could go either way. Mylo Xyloto was bogged down by combining two different album ideas. Originally they were making a acoustic type album, then it morphed into a more experimental, poppy one. It ended up being a mixed bag of ideas despite having excellent tunes like Hurts Like Heaven, Charlie Brown, Us Against The World and Major Minus. I even like Paradise ( ). Perhaps their song "Atlas" from the Hunger games is pointing towards a return to the Rush of Blood era sound. Who knows... - As far as U2, man this fucking band takes forever to record music. I'm not even sure if this new project is the Danger Mouse album or not. I hope it is. The song Ordinary Love from that Nelson Mandela film sounded promising. I actually prefer the remix of Ordinary Love - a bit more punchiness to it. It was alright, nice hook, not much with the lyrics though. I would think we'll have to wait an age for the U2 album - probably discussing promotion for the album or something... like writing an advert on the moon so everyone in the world knows it's coming out. They're pretty unsubtle when it comes to the whole promotional thing - that said, you can have shed loads of promotion and the album will still not sell if its not good enough - just look at No Line on the Horizon, it only sold a fifth of their previous album. I wish bands and artists would realise that the best form of promotion is actually having a decent album.

I love a lot of U2 albums and songs but it is all the recent side show bullshit the band does that makes me feel uninspired to keep listening to them. Of course I will but they are extremely pretentious. I remember that Noel quote about them from 2007 and how it takes U2 several band meetings to decide on where to even record an album. Imagine them deciding how to actually make an album in studio? Must be maddening. They also can't even tour in a simple manner, everything has to keep being bigger and bigger and bigger. A giant claw? Really? Can't you just stand on the songs, play a back to basics type tour? It is very frustrating to me a fan of their over the last 10-14 years.

The whole claw thing was a load of crap - that extravagance seems like a parody of older U2. The only time U2 have ever justified all that overblown stage set up was Zoo TV, because it had a theme to it and was pretty true to the Achtung Baby album concept - I think it's the greatest live tour of all time IMO. They did a back to basics tour for All That You Can't Leave Behind and it was amazing - I have the Slane Castle gig on DVD and it blows me away everytime I watch it. They can do simple brilliantly so the whole claw thing seemed to cover up the inadequacies of the album. Rumours abound that they are going back to basics for the next tour - lets hope so. I love their music too much to stop listening, but I totally understand where you're coming from. This is a band who used to release great albums every year in the 1980s, now it takes them five years to release moderately decent albums. They seem like a part time band - Bono does his philanthropy, writing shit broadway musicals about Spiderman, Larry does bits of acting... it seems as if being a band is not the priority these days. U2 fans couldn't give a shit what they're doing apart from making music. If so, then why should they be surprised if their creativity suffers? I wish they were just like Bruce Springsteen, who is all about the music and nothing else. Anyway, update on the Coldplay album. Did a bit of internet research and it seems they have ditched Brian Eno and Markus Dravs and loads of other guys from their last two albums. They seem to be only working with a tight knit group of guys they've worked with their whole careers. They seem to be getting back to basics. Good news I think, their last couple of albums have seemed a bit overcooked on the production front.

Good news I think, their last couple of albums have seemed a bit overcooked on the production front. A more low key style album might suit Coldplay well in 2014. They were quickly heading into U2 territory of stage theatrics and flair. I like the idea of them scaling back and not having to employe big name producers like Brian Eno and Markus Dravs. Personally I'd like to see Ken Nelson make his return. I thought the best sounding Coldplay records were the ones he produced (Parachutes and Rush of Blood).

Stephen Malkmus' album Wig Out At The Jagbags is fantastic. The guy rarely disappoints and has aged (probably) the best out of any 90's songwriter.
Fantastic witty wordplay and superb guitar playing. Pitchfork and Allmusic have both done pretty great reviews on it. I think Mirror Traffic is a bit better, but damn can always count on him to release at least good album and more often than not a great one.
Chartjunk is probably my favorite tune so far this year.

Serge on the upcoming Kasabian album:
"It's Beastie Boys dub with a sort of Zeppelin, Rage Against The Machine chorus. It's got the flavour of a bank robbery getaway car. Everything drops to barely nothing and then the fucking hand of God slams the floor."
I didn't think anyone could rival Noel Gallagher with over the top song and album descriptions.
"It's like Led Zeppelin doing the Beatles and the guitar solos are 10 minutes long."

Here is another fantastic single from Broken Bells. Really looking forward to this album. James Mercer cooks up great tunes with Danger Mouse (That's your cue Noel and Liam ).

Outside of Noel releasing a album, it's all about Richard Ashcroft for me this year. He's due an album and the man is an absolute god in my eyes. Legend.

Fuck, I did not expect this. Embrace are back after 8 years, but this tune sounds nothing like them at all. Very electronic, the other brother sings it (Richard, not Danny), autotuned massively at the start - I was a bit 'whoa, hang on a minute guys' such is my natural rejection towards this modern music.
But giving it a few listens over and over again, this tune has really grown on me. I like the lyrics (after making an effort to hear them) and the conclusion of the song is wonderful (the 'whoas' sound Coldplayish).
But it's particularly when Danny the lead singer comes in at the end that really makes this beautiful. The lyrics he sings are brilliant and heartfelt, in particular referring to his horrific post traumatic stress disorder he suffered which he admitted to the press a couple of years back.
"And when all of your friends are my enemies wishing me gone as I'm running away And my only defence is the worst of me Out in the open for all to survey When you settle for less than I promised you Knowing that all of our barrels are scraped If it seems like it's harder to say to you It's cause some things are just harder to say"
I've never been with the consensus that Danny McNamara's a bad singer. I think he's very ordinary, quite plain but not bad. There are times when he hits the emotional spot like no other singer for me and some of his lyrics are fantastic (check Drawn From Memory). With the brash production and fast pace of this song, his introduction at the end really gets me. A lot of fragility in his voice really portrays the vulnerability at the heart of the lyrics and I think it's just wonderful. A hint somewhat of what the album will be like, everyone saying it's a dark album, which is fine by me, as some of Embrace's last couple of albums could get a wee bit sugary sweet at times.
Their new album, self titled 'Embrace' is released on 29th April, and preceding that will be a 4 track EP containing this single Refugees and 3 other tunes. A band close to my heart for nostalgic reasons (my first gig at 14 years old going to see these guys!), can't wait for this!

Real Estate are a great band. Seen them live a couple times. Like Beach House, and so many other bands they just have a sound and do it consistently well with steady growth.
Also get points for not being able to make it to this meet and greet, but they took addresses of their fans and sent autographed posters. Nice guys, fantastic band.
