'Importance Of Being Idle'. Sounds like a novelty b-side at best to me.

To me there isn't any songs that are overrated by the general public. On this forum though, I'd say; Cigarettes & Alcohol Stay Young Gas Panic The Hindu Times Turn Up The Sun

Wonderwall. I really don't like that song. After that, probably Shakermaker or Columbia. I never understand why these 2 songs are highly thought of. mnly highly rated because of the album they are off, same with any "classic" album all tracks tend to be thought highly of

I don't think Wonderwall is overrated. Overplayed, yes, definitely, but you can't deny it's a great song and Oasis wouldn't have been what it was/is without it. This is so true. Knew when I seen this thread title it would be an opportunity for the hipsters to slate Wonderwall. Okay its annoying that its considered Oasis best song by people who aren't fans because it simply isn't true. But for me its Liam's best vocal and one hell of a tune. I have a lot more of a hard time picking an overrated oasis song than I do an underrated one because I think bar Wonderwall, DLBIA and Champagne Supernova, the majority of Oasis songs didn't get the populariy they deserve.

Agree with most of this except for I honestly think his best vocal was on Slide Away. Gets me everytime, and they must have rated it pretty highly too to build the song around the vocal take

It makes sense for anyone outside the UK really. Here they were regarded as a big band, but for casual listeners overseas they are seen as one hit wonders with that song. If people didn't buy the WTSMG album or even any of the others that may be the only song they would have heard at the time, pre-internet meaning it was whatever the radio and tv playlists had.

Actually GuigsyEString I'll give you a history on Oasis outside the UK.
There was a conspiracy here in New Zealand to keep them off the radio. At the end of 95 and start of 96 I remember hearing Wonderwall, Live Forever, Don't Look Back in Anger and Roll With It on the radio.
Then after about February they disappeared. During 1996 Champagne Supernova was on radio countdown but not on rock stations.
I didn't hear Supersonic until 1997 when I got hold of a compilation album of songs from 1994, in New Zealand there was free European MTV for a year or more before it went off air, during 1997 and when Be Here Now came out. When Dyaknowhat I mean came out, it got played on the radio at nights (Which was when new music was played) but it didn't fit in with the American Alternative heavy louder music so it got voted off, but I think the powers that be tried to get rid of them.
In early 2000 I remember Oasis being announced a new single on the radio..my reaction was firstly "They are still doing music?" and "Well I bet its not as good as what they did at the start." I remember hearing it but not paying much attention I think it might of been "Who Feels Love".
And it never got played again.
The only time I heard Wonderwall played was at 1am in late 2001.
Of course listening back to all the rarer songs and albums from the years gone by now, I can see why the radio didn't want them on. New Zealand is under huge CIA control.
As for me being a puddle drinker. Thankyou for saying I am such a humble servant.

herbalifeInteresting, that would have made more sense to me if, for example, it was around the Be Here Now tour when it all kicked off in neighbouring Australia with the law and press. Was there any reason ever fathomed, or was it just a Director's decision to keep them out? As far as US influence goes welcome to the world outside China, Iran, North Korea and Russia at the moment, excluding the ones who claim not to be but are so strangled by embargoes etc that they can barely (if at all ) support themselves

Well because I read David Icke books....yeah I think they are trying to stop people listening to them. In New Zealand there are too many radio stations as opposed to England where there is just 2...
In 2001 when I went to England I could not believe how simplistic the radio was.. "Radio1, 2, 3" not sure if that XFM was going or not.
Radio was all local throughout New Zealand till late 1999, that is when it all changed.
But when I think about it, they always seemed to make the news, you see they try and portray them as drunken louts or trouble makers - like when Liam got in that bar fight and there was that taxi crash in 2002, that made headline news, same with Liam being thrown off a plane in Australia.
And when Stop the Clocks in 2006 got released there was headline interviews with Noel Gallagher.
When they broke up it was headline news, still get no radio or airplay though. There is no tv channel for music here anymore, it was never that good anyway.
Here is an interview from 2012.....with this very annoying interviewer.

herbalifePrefer George Carlin and Noam Chomsky myself, but the messages have underlying similarities throughout regarding the world and how it is run. Thanks for the clip and some insight in NZ media (btw Xfm would have been up as they started broadcasting in Sep 97). With the UK as well as the BBC (British Bull**** Corp but I've ranted about that before ) you have a nmuber of private regional stations as well, a few who have supported local artists I've worked with, which is rare. The only NZ music I used to get hold of was through Flying Nun Records, don't know if they still exist, and the Veil's Runaround Found LP from 04, which i loved.
