This is the start of the hype machine. Dravs and Murphy guiding the ship! Can't wait! www.nme.com/news/arcade-fire/70596Former LCD Soundsystem man James Murphy has said he thinks the new Arcade Fire album will be "really great". Murphy, who has helped to produce a number of tracks on the forthcoming album, told Rolling Stone: "I think it's going to be a really great record, actually. I'm eager to see it come out." The Canadian band joined Murphy at the DFA studio earlier this year to work on new material. "There's a lot of them, and they're mostly self-produced – like, they don't need a producer in a certain way. So I didn't know how it would go," he said. In an interview with MusicWeek late last year, the band's manager Scott Rodger said that Arcade Fire were going into the studio with Murphy to work on the follow-up to 2010's 'The Suburbs'. He said: "They're in with James Murphy on three or so songs, plus Markus Dravs who is a long-time collaborator. They write too many songs - that's a good problem to have. There's around 35 songs with Arcade Fire, two albums'-worth for sure." This spring Arcade Fire's Win Butler and Regine Chassagne welcomed the birth of their first child. The name of musical couple's son, who weighed seven pounds, has not been revealed. News of the birth – which took place on April 21 - was revealed by Canadian publication Le Journal de Montréal. Spinner has translated the announcement made in the paper by Barry Mack, the pastor at Montreal's St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Saint-Lambert, as: "It's good to see that they are still together and they now have a baby. It's a bit rare in the entertainment industry."

I'm really excited for the new album, they're one of the best bands around at the moment.

Arcade Fire is probably one of the only bands where seeing the words 'really great' describing the next album feels a little disappointing.

Yep, should beyond amazing. Lots of rumors going around about the album being very Talking Heads-esque (specifically Stop Making Sense) which is great news!
And James Murphy is awesome. I really wish LCD Soundsystem were still a band, they were immense live! It was a treat to be able to catch their last show two years ago.

I know Arcade Fire tried to link up with James Murphy in the past right after Neon Bible came out but it didn't work out. However I think he helped to produce a b-side. I was actually fortunate to catch LCD Soundsystem open for Arcade Fire in 2007 at Randall's Island in New York City. Fantastic show. Can't wait to hear what they cooked up!

They're an incredible act, saw them live at Edinburgh Castle and they can put on a hell of a show. I feel priveleged to experience them at their ultimate peak and there's not a better band out there at the moment.
Each of their three albums are masterpieces. I expect the very best for the next one too!

Hey I saw that article on NME a few days ago but seeing this thread just now made me excited because I thought there was other news on the new album....not yet I guess, haha. Anyways the Suburbs was brilliant so I expecting their next one to be awesome too. For a band that's made one of my favorite albums ever (Funeral) I still haven't seen them live. Next time they tour I gotta make sure that changes.

Arcade Fire at Lollapalooza 2010 is still my favorite show of all time. A totally amazing, religious experience. My only fear for the upcoming tour is that they'll ignore The Suburbs and Neon Bible in favor of picking the majority of the set from Funeral and the new album; much like Oasis, they didn't do a good job of changing their setlists up during the last tour. Tunes like The Well and the Lighthouse, Deep Blue, Suburban War, and Ocean of Noise need to be brought back!

i'm looking forward to the album, but all the speculation before it drops doesn't interest me. Well that's the thing, hard to speculate because much like Radiohead, very little info about their recording sessions ever leak out. All we know currently is Markus Dravs and James Murphy are in the mix production wise, they recorded it in Canada and have a stockpile of material. I like the way they released their first single last album. Sending unmarked vinyl copies to random indie record stores around the globe. The vinyl featured The Suburbs and Month of May. A nice old school surprise.

That rumor was disproved by its source, but apparently they're aiming for a November release date. If anything, that September 9th date might be for the lead single?

Yes! Sprawl II was the BEST song off The Suburbs. Great fucking tune. I agree. It's by far my favorite track on the album followed by "Ready To Start". Funny thing is I usually dont like the songs Régine sings.

Funny thing is I usually dont like the songs Régine sings. Well she dominated on that track. I'd imagine the production of that song might spill over into their new album. James Murphy is producing and he has a dance like edge to his music.

After listening to Funeral for years I finally picked it up on vinyl! Exciting stuff, now I only need to replace my Neon Bible CD with a vinyl version to complete the set.
