I'm boring,so... After that I've seen him live I can see that his voice is fucking brillant, song like TIOBI,TDOYAM,What a Life are really really difficult,I mean I love his voice,I've ever loved it (I think that it becomes better with ages)but before the TCT I've ever listened studio version of the songs or you know, youtube,so today I thought at the gig and I thought that his voice is amazing, technically perfect, not particular (is it the right word? I'm not a genius in English),but amazing in his (or its,or I don't know,I hope that you understand me LOL) way So sorry for this thread, but i had to say this Bye

The improvement in his voice from 95 to now is amazing.

I love the melancholy in Noel's voice.

Noel Gallagher is a guitar man and a songwriter after all. His voice wasn't made to be a singer, yet it got better and better.

I really like Noel's voice. Might not be the most unique but it's pretty damn good.

After Be Here Now you can hear the way he put more effort into singing, guitar playing, songwriting and production. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he had singing lessons.

After Be Here Now you can hear the way he put more effort into singing, guitar playing. I wouldn't say that... In fact, I think he stopped trying to be Jimi Hendrix and focused more on his singing. Enlisting Gem enabled him to put the wax down for the most part. Can't really think of too many memorable Noel riffs/solos post BHN aside from RIO and TIOBI.

Where did it all go wrong? Shout it out loud Little by little (I don't really know if the solo is Noels or is Gem that play it) I like the SMC solo too

It's very similar to RIO, I prefer the RIO instrumentation (especially the solo) with the choirs backing it.
Liam's voice, the lyrics and the trip-hop beat make Gas Panic epic, not really the solo.

Shout it out loud Little by little (I don't really know if the solo is Noels or is Gem that play it) I like the SMC solo too Perhaps I should've said post-SOTSOG instead of post-BHN. But I was implying that anyway with the bit about Gem joining the band. Gem didn't contribute to the SOTSOG sessions so the guitar was still very much a priority for Noel. Notice how most of the songs mentioned (GP, RIO, SMC, WDIAGW, SIOL, LBL) were all recorded/demoed in the Giants/pre-Archer era? For what Noel gained with his voice and song-writing, he definitely lost a step with his guitar playing/innovating.

he didnt lose a step. he just got sick of solos..for the new songs anyway. cos everything he's done with the old songs during 2008/2009 wwas great. Slide Away, Supersonic, Roll With It, Morning Glory and a whole bunch of songs from that time. he got a whole lot better. no fucking wah-wah all over the place like he used to. you can't really argue with that.

I think that Noel consider Gem better than him as a guitarist,he lets a lot of "guitar things" to him,but I think that he,if he want, can write an amazing riff or solo (TSOTL one is a good riff, isn't it,Come on outside too,the Freaky Teet's solo is pretty good...I think that Noel underrates himself,if you know what I mean...

His voice sounds to me like English Country if that makes any sense.

His best ever performance, I believe, was Acquiesce in the 2005 Manchester gig. Utterly sublime.
He peaked 2005-2009. Not so keen on the tone he's adopted during the HFB era. It's very bizarre.

I like his voice a lot when he shouts or sings out loud a vowel, and stretches it for a few seconds. That's the best. It's very emotional and powerful, comes from deep in the soul.
I don't like that much it when he pushes beyond the falsetto voice, i.e if i had a gun. Too soft.

Those soundcheck versions from 2008-09... man there's something about them, of course they weren't loadded with expectations of being a 'proper' recording but Noel alone with the guitar, he's just got 'it' hasn't he?.
I didn't hear the 2009 Hong Kong version of Stop The Clocks til recently, somebody posted it and said they preferred it to the HFB version, I was prepared to say they were full of shit, then I listened to it and was completely blown away, I think it's among his most sublime vocals.
The acoustic Slide Away from 1998 Chicago will always be #1 for me though, I can't see anything ever besting that.

Noel pretty much stopped playing freak-out guitar solos/licks after Be Here Now. Sure there are a few notable exceptions.
A track like The Shock of the Lightning would have been improved with a Noel guitar solo instead of the daft drum solo.
A shame really, as I think his guitar ebullience provided a lot of the Oasis Mk 1* joy.
(* Or as I call it, "Oasis".)
