Lillywhite left them in the lurk by letting Gem do the mixing, Liam said in a few interviews that he didn't think he would work with him again. However i kind of remember people on this forum raving about the production on DGSS. How things have changed. I don't think DGSS is badly produced. It might not be great but its at least better than the production on the High Flying Birds album. With the exception of If I Had A Gun and I Wanna Live, I really like the production on HFB. I think they nailed EOTR, TDOYAM, SBAJF, BA, and SOTWB.

I agree Lillywhite should definitely have not tweeted that. Beady Eye have quite a few good songs. But nevertheless he's effectively guaranteed that he won't be producing any more of their albums. I think he is within his rights to tweet that. BDI attacked him first in the Shortlist interview saying the reason DGSS wasn't good was because of the producer. Sounds to me he wants to make it clear that his altercation with the boys was making it clear that he hadn't thought the songs were good enough...which he was right about.

They get upset when any criticism is levelled at Beady Eye, you know that GD. As you say, Lillywhite's comment was a retort to what they said about him in Shortlist.

Liam was a little weird about Lillywhite in the early radio interviews, can't remember exactly which ones. I guess Liam was dissapointed about him "leaving them in the lurch" Lillywhite was graceful enough to big up the new tune though, so far play to him.

Sorry, don't agree with this. Steve Lillywhite is a very good producer, conventional yes, but if the songs aren't there then it's going to be shit. You can't polish a turd the size of Different Gear in my opinion. And going on the merits of the previous Oasis albums and their Beatles obsessions, it was Gem, Liam and Andy who decided to make it a piss poor Beatles rip off album. That said, Four Letter Word is good and The Morning Son is very good. I don't like DGSS either but I thought Lillywhite was wrong to tweet what he did, beady eye have written some good songs It's impossible to take that seriously, coming from probably the biggest Liam fanboy ever to set foot on god's green earth

Don't get me wrong, I love the High Flying Birds album but the production is a bit average. But each to his own I guess. To be honest I think some of the mixing is average, more so than the production. Aka..Broken Arrow should sound better, but for some reason the way the drums and bongo drums are mixed they clash. The steal pedal in IIHAG is buried way down in the mix, whereas the mix of the choir and the solo in RM completely go against each other. And the horns on Dream On are too low. Aka...What A Life is mixed and produced perfectly imo along with The Death of You And Me, and Everybody's On the Run. I think Sardy is actually a very good producer, he should just be kept as far away from a mixing board as possible. Good producer, shitty mixer.

And Lilywhite was within his right to tweet his response. Beady Eye should just learn not to throw people under the bus, especially when they did nothing to deserve it. Lilywhite was a professional throughout DGSS in talking it up as much as possible, while not mentioning what happened behind closed doors.
That was poor on Beady Eye's part dishing on him when there was clearly no reason to. He has every right to defend himself.

If it true that he left them in the lurch then that's hardly 'no reason' is it

bad form from lillywhite. should save vitriol for his book. a producers job is to make a great end result, he can't go blaming the songs. Sitek said he wasn't there to do better versions of demos, and that's the approach a producer should take. Much of the dissing that Same Gear had was to do with the production imo. The casual listener doesn't think 'that could have been produced better' they just think 'dated/too quiet/bit boring etc' Think the difference between 'Let It Be' and 'Abbey Road' if you really want to know what the production means to a record. it actually surprises me than for a 'fan forum' there are actually so many 'causual listeners' on here

If it true that he left them in the lurch then that's hardly 'no reason' is it Yea, no reason. They didn't have to bring it up this time around. If they wanted they could have mentioned it when tDGSS came out. Instead, they decided to put him down once their album "failed". It's the equivalent of Noel mentioning Andy at his press conference. Did Noel have a legitimate issue with Andy? Probably. Did he have to purposely take time out of what he was saying the put down Andy? No. Lilywhite, as with anyone who is working a job, has the right to quit when he wants. Just as Beady Eye had the right to fire him whenever they wanted. Just as they could have talked about this incident last album cycle. Lylywhite stayed silent, though he seemed to have just as much right to go to the press on his experience with Beady Eye. Especially if he had reservations as to the quality of the album. He could have easily cleared himself of any blame by throwing Beady Eye under the bus. Instead, he kept silent and talked up the album and kept what happened behind closed doors. And was more than willing to take blame for the production of the album, before Beady Eye mentioned. Beady Eye were the ones who decided not to take the high road.

At least their getting some love from lillywhite Four Letter Word, Steve...you heard that one?... The one song on that album that you didn't ruin with dated and unimaginative production i think lillywhite was busy wanking in front of a mirror on an old U2 vinyl he produced, during Gem mixed DGSS. what a prick... oyu simply can't work with a producer that doesn't like the music. if he didn't like it, why he hasn't try to work WITH them instead of talking shit afterwards... seems like another Noel Fanboy ^^

ITS NOT OASIS ANYMORE so why bringing up Noel?`!

Let's be honest when DGSS came out BDI basically thought they were gonna carry on where oasis left off (as such).
I'm sure while they were making the album they believed they knew best, it was amazing etc this is probably why lillywhite up and left in the end.
As others said lillywhite kept his mouth shut never said a negative word. Then in shortlist Liam implies it could've been lillywhite's fault for the album not being well received
Lillywhite just saying it was more the songs weren't great which is true, with the exception of SOTEOTN I'd say that production not groundbreaking but is good.
I like the album tbh but can see songwriting wise why it wasn't well received

Lillywhite is clearly right. and this is why people get so mad. and stop with that 'new band' bullshit. they knew what was coming on when they released this album of Oasis leftovers. I admit that they've had some balls though. fair play to them. but blame it on the producer? come on...

I agree with you that the brothers needed each other. But look at where they are now. Noel is just as popular as he was in Oasis and why? Because he writes good fucking songs man. Liam has a damn fine voice but look at what he is singing. DGSS was terrible record and you fanboys might think it was great but it wasn't. I'm rooting for BE to be great but I'm apprehensive

And yes, everyone has a right to quit a job, and everyone else similarly has a right to be pissed off if they were left in the lurch. I have zero issue with Lillywhite coming out with what he did, it's fair game. But Liam didn't say what he said without reason, regardless of his motives.

It comes off as someone who was pissed with the result and now wants to throw out reasons why it didn't go how he wanted. As I said with the Noel example, did Liam have a legitimate issue? Probably. Did he have to go out of his way to air it out? No. It comes off as fairly petty. Especially considering the lack of "success" of DGSS. If you were going to mention it, then last album would have been the time to do it. To wait till now, just seems like the blame game when there was no reason to start it.
