Did you watch the German show "Dark" ... a time travel must. Didn't like it, to be honest. Everyone told me I would like it, and then I felt guilty about binning it off after the first series - it felt like all the characters made it their mission to be dull and all the twists explained themselves twice as if I couldn't get it the first time. I'm still waiting for something to scratch the same itch that Doctor Who S5/6 did for me - charismatic characters, sharp humour, big emotions, and some of the most imaginative plots ever put on screen. Rebooting the universe! With a fairytale prison! In the heart of an exploding time machine! Dark is quite uneven but it’s remarkably ambitious as a piece of massively engineered storytelling. Giving it just one season probably isn’t doing it justice, since it builds on itself, but if you’re bored, you’re bored. The characterizations could definitely be much deeper, one of several major flaws, but they put so many balls in the air, it’s a wonder any of them were caught. How about Devs? It’s not Dr. Who kind of stuff but it is very smart, has a bit of a sneaky time travel angle and plenty to argue about if one is so inclined. Also speaking of hugely ambitious, Foundation starts later this week on Apple TV, though no reviews yet.

Aye, given how much the ambition/time-travel of Dark suits me, I'm sure I will get round it again at some point. It just felt like the characters existed to allow access into the story, rather than the other way around - like watching cogs turn in a machine rather than human beings with souls led by their own instincts and desires. After a bit, I was watching it out of duty rather than enjoyment, and switched to I May Destroy You, which I loved. Devs and Foundation, I'll have a look into them, thanks!

Life is far too short (and content way too plentiful) to waste time on shows that aren't doing it for you! There is definitely a bit of characters-as-cogs to Dark. Actually, both Dark and Devs have to do with determinism (not to get all heady here on the Oasis forum ) but they engage with it in completely different ways. If you saw the movie Ex Machiina, Devs is the same director ... Alex Garland.

Sex Education - S3 Also will be looking for a new show to start with my friend on Wednesday. We never agree on anything, so if anyone can recommend a good controversial show to really get the arguments started, that'd be appreciated. We do like character drama and I love time travel, which she hates. Hoping to find something that sneaks in time travel at some point. Just to annoy her. Euphoria? or Outlander if you want time travel. I only watched s1 and never really got into it but you might like it

Do you think those documentaries would be good for people who have never got into F1? I watched it for a fortnight when I was a teenager. Never been my thing. I've heard about the Senna film but always nudged it to the side in favour of stuff that's more my interests - would they appeal to those who aren't into the sport? Senna definitely appeals to those not into the sport, and it's by no means a promotional tool for the sport either. You can come away from it thinking its excellent without having a motivation to delve further into the sport. The narrative is compelling like any film focusing largely on his rivalry with Prost and builds to the tragic conclusion. It's one of the rare sports films that has universal appeal regardless of the sport. In comparison, other things like the recent Schumacher documentary would appeal mainly to F1 fans but I'm not certain it has broader appeal. Maybe I'm wrong - it does focus on sporting personalities and their characteristics that make them winners which is always fascinating regardless of the sport personally but it doesn't have the emotional pull Senna has.

The last three episodes of Cardinal season 3 last night. I'll start watching season 4 later. And, of course it's Wentworth Prison tonight and there's definitely going to be trouble.

Another good episode of Wentworth last night and I can't believe that we're half way through the series already. I do wish that this wasn't the final season ever.

I started watching season 4 of Cardinal but I've seen it before so I won't watch anymore and I'll find something else to watch later. The trouble is I get spoilt for choice having more than one streaming service. I might decide to watch some wildlife programmes.

She was phenomenal I did! It’s my favorite show right now. Great acting, great characters and really amazing visuals! And it’s great that they only did 10 episodes so far. It’s a real turn off that most of the Netflix shows have 13 episodes per season.

The infamous T-1000 thing.
Also looking for some recommendations to hopefully relax on Sunday after the AFL Grand final, anything with a recurring theme of going back in time (Not Back to the Future, seen those) would be appreciated.

Mind you, some of those foreign dramas by Walter Presents on All4 can be a few years old before they're shown in the UK as when Code 37 Sex Crimes was shown on More4 the first series was made back in 2009 and the final one was made back in 2012.

There will be a season 4 too, which is great. I'm watching some footage of Genesis' current tour. Yeah...I think it's time to pack it in for Phil Collins. These live versions of Mama, Home By The Sea, Dancing with the moonlit knight and Carpet Crawlers are absolutely brutal lol.

Thursday - Knebworth Saturday - Dune That's more cinema then in the last few years, even before Covid!
"Dune" was awesome. I love the book(s) and was already halfway in love with that movie when I saw the cast. And I was right! Near perfect cast, great adaption, stunning pictures ==> brilliant movie! Now please bring on part II.

I started watching The Yard on Netflix last night which is a foreign prison drama and it's like a foreign version of Wentworth as some of it is exactly the same. Like the Bea Smith story in season one of Wentworth, well in The Yard there's a new woman who's being sent to prison for the same reason as what Bea was in Wentworth. I'll see how it goes though and I'm not too sure how many seasons are available at the moment.
