noel will hang around till xmas nowin the top 100 and could then get another surge in sales, very strong and consistent album, and also says why oasis albums werent selling aswell..people wanted a noel album The level of stupidty around here is always surprising. Whih people? HFB isn't near DBTT's sales. It sold more than DOYS and it's nly because DOYS wasn't an easy catchy album with strong single. HFB is. People wanted a "good" album, not a Noel album, if HFB have been an Oasis album, it would have sell 2x more than HFB. And HFB sold a huge amount in the uk, but the worlwild sales aren't that impressive. Especially compare to an Oasis album. Agree 100%

All the figures on that page are complete and utter bullshit, Adele for example hasn't sold 31 million albums in the US, 21 achieved 9 million in may, that puts her at best around the 15 mark with her other album.

And there is almost certainly another 1 million laying around unaccounted for in certifications.

And HFB sold a huge amount in the uk, but the worlwild sales aren't that impressive. Especially compare to an Oasis album. Firstly, HFB's has done extremely well for itself. DBTT is the highest selling Oasis album of the 2000's. In the UK it sold 975k, while HFB's has sold about 700k. Considering that 975k came in 2005/6 (6-7 years ago) and the rate that record sales have dropped. If HFB's came out in 2005/6, it would probably be extremely close to DBTT territory. Secondly, you're right that HFB's hasn't done as well as past Oasis albums worldwide. The problem is that its selling ration is very well near Oasis' Worldwide. Almost all of Oasis' Worldwide's have had UK sales accounting for nearly half the total sales. HFB's is just over half at the moment. So in light of those numbers, it's actually selling at the normal rate that one would expect from an Oasis album. Finally, I don't think people were looking for a HFB's album. But I do believe that they were looking for a fully written Noel album again. No matter the name on the front. Just sayin...

heathen chemistry is up there with dbtt sales,my point was is that this success was not expected for noel, its the fact that its full of songs that made oasis what they were good catchy pop songs full of great melody..for there is no doubt oasis wouldve created what critics wouldve claimed was a classic had noel been penning all of the tracks, yes the others wrote great songs between them but noel wrote the oasis classics..hfb album has sold roughly close to what oasis were selling in most countries but you must add atleast another 400 000 for american and asia sales if it was an oasis album.

This right here actually. HFB's has sold relatively the same in almost all countries, relative to Oasis. Noel's missing around 150k in Japan and American sales. And he's about 100k short in the UK. That's about 250k in album sales of where Oasis normally is. Other than that, he has sold just well, better, or a bit below where Oasis normally sells in most countries. Also, I think people forget that this was extremely unexpected. There's a thread around here where people were saying that they'd be happy 600k Worldwide sales. Beady Eye sold about 175k in the UK. Noel has outsold them twice in 2 years and has triple the sales in the UK. Worldwide/total Beady Eye have sold a little over 450k, Noel has double. That's no knock on Beady Eye. Their numbers are actually pretty respectable for a new band, but Noel's numbers are staggering. And no one expected this. He has out performed whatever anyone thought he would do. And he's still going strong.

Most articles I can find say the album has sold approx 20 million world wide.

You do realize that this list is of "records" right? That includes all single sales as well as album sales across the life of the artists. Many newer artists will rate highly based off of digital totals sold online. These number do not however equate to actual status worldwide. For example, Garth Brooks is highly rated but he is irrelevant in today's scene.

And DM and WTSMG? would've have both been north of 15 mil copies too, because of discount selling online and ease of access. When Oasis were at their biggest people still had to physically get up, go to a shop, and buy a record. It's not that way anymore. New artist have that advantage over those of the past, especially those from the 80's and 90's who's records are not old enough to be considered nostalgic to buy them.

Your logic has flaws here. MG is 50 in the list of the most sold album of all time. It can't have been better with digital cause Record sales have dropped because of illegal download. That's true more people have acces to their music now because of the internet, but in the end, this affect gig's venue, not album sales. That's why Oasis regained popularity around 2005, because a younger audience had access very easily to their early albums. You can argue that MG would have been one of those "must have" album that we have every year and that people actually buy like Back to Black, Adele, Lana del Rey and on a more modest way HFB, but we can't know for sure

Which is why I said the 31 million includes albums and singles.

Nope. The last couple weeks #1 albums were a bit over 9,000 units sold. Couple weeks ago had the dubious honor of the lowest selling #1 of all time I believe. Yeah, but that was because the Olympics caused record sales to drop. Now that the Olympics have ended, one would think that sales for most the Top 10 would go up. If he could boost his sales another 2.5 K he might be able to get into the top 10. #10 album sold 7316 this past week.

How does the midweek chart normally compare to the end of week chart? Is he likely to stay there?
Either way, I can't believe how well the bloody thing is doing. It's great to see Noel's songs finally being appreciated by the public at large. A good album deserves recognition.

Just can't believe how well this album has done. But then again, its the best album he's wrote songs for since the mid 90s so it makes sense I guess. ;D Hopefully this encourages him to release albums more often!

Yep, hopefully he doesn't take too long with the next batch of tunes! (Written by Noel Gallagher) is a pretty special thing.

His sales should be fairly steady I'd think. I'd think if he's behind 5 new entries (who will likely be pretty frontloaded as all preorders count in the first half the week) he has a good chance of staying top 10.. Shocking if he is top 10 by the end of the week. We're 45 weeks out now! It's been on the UK charts longer than any post MG Oasis album. All the rest fell completely off the top 100 by the 45th week...
