A good few years since both records were released, I think it's fair to say we all have a balanced opinion now! Thoughts on which one is better? EDIT: Actually, holy crap, make it 4 YEARS since Different Gear. We're getting old... I thought you were better than this matt.

Still HFB for me.
DGSS starts off nicely but its just a pain to listen to from track 5 onwards.

High Flying Birds was so disappointing to me and Different Gear was actually a pretty decent effort from the less talented songwriters from the band. Put it all together and you could have had a solid Oasis album.
I find BE awful but I've got a decent feeling about Chasing Yesterday that it will be fresh and I'll enjoy it.

High Flying Birds is better than Different Gear. BE is a better effort and I've listened to that one much more often. I'd still have NGHFB over both though.

I cant believe this is even up for any debate at all, Noel hands down by an absolute mile. DGSS is 5/10 at absolute best, prob being tad generous. Anyone voting for DGSS needs to get over the Liam vs Noel thing, its like when people argue over Apple vs Samsung, SAD!

I like DGSS, I really do; it's a fun album with some nice tunes, nothing amazing musically but it still sounds surprisingly fresh four years later. I'd still rather listen to DGSS than to HC and it's about even with DBTT. That being said, to me HFB is actually on the level of Oasis' better albums and easily blows DGSS out of the water. The production might be a little disappointing, but every song on there is great - Broken Arrow and TDOYAM are probably my favorites from everything any of them has done post-BHN.

Agree, Noel first album is as consistent across an album as hes ever been, solid-great songs all the way through, even the bonus tracks/b-sides are great. Think a lot of people are fickle, same routine every time, will be same with this new one, love to hate pretty quick, its a minority I know. We are lucky we get albums from Noel at all, because music in the main nowadays sucks. Same with the Liam fans who slam anything Noel does whilst they sit at home listening to Little James and watching Liam on youtube start a fight with someone from the media who's 5 foot tall. Take the last Oasis album, when Noel is involved its a high success rate, whenever the others got involved its a very low success rate. Liam is a great singer, or was, but he & the others in Beady Eye aren't even on the same level as Noel, and its not even close.

Remember when people were calling The Beat Goes On as a good as The Masterplan? FUCKING CHRIST.
TBGO is such a Mickey Mouse song, it actually would fit in with being in Disney World. It's the second coming to It's A Small World After All. It also sounds like Smash Mouth. Diabolical.

Two equally dire songs that have at one time or another been subject to intense hyperbole...

I don't know what could have saved the beat goes on. Which says a lot for each artist's duds. Even when Noel falls short, it's still on its face, a damn good song. And IIHAG is a very good song.

If i had a gun is noel by numbers, it flows well on the record but honestly, it gets kinda boring. Noel trying to repeat Wonderwall, just like he tried WAL part 2 with Mighty I and failed miserably. I like If i had a gun though. Sometimes.
as for DGSS vs HFB, well HFB easily. DGSS has what, 3 or 4 good tracks and a good bside.
