I like both albums but think Noels shades it. Both bring something different to the table and I'm glad we're getting music from both BDI and NGHFB.

It´s quite kinksy. I don`t consider it as obviously acoustic. really. See what you mean by the faint blues vibe on Stranded.

I think we need to stop using that "An Oasis fan should love both Noel and Liam's projects." That was true in theory before the albums. But now you can be a Noel fan or a BDI fan...separate from from the Oasis fandom With this album...that's it. People can now legitimately be a Noel Gallagher fan and not particularly rate Liam...or even Oasis. Just like people could like BDI that hadn't liked Oasis or Noel. They are now truly separate entities. How freaky is that? For me, I like BDI. I am glad that I have their album in my collection. Not ashamed to have most of it on my iPod (although I have taken B&S, SOTEOTN, and TOAK off as those do shame me). I'll buy their next album...but probably not anything extra and see them if they some to town. Like most of the rest of the band I enjoy. However, I am a Noel fanatic...and now I feel I can justify that opinion even leaving Oasis out of it. I will fly out to see him in Toronto and I will buy special editions and imports and DVD's. I am just plain a bigger fan of Noel...and the beauty of the split and subsequent albums is that now I can be. Just like jilliam and tomlivesforever are free to be bigger BDI fans. This isn't Oasis anymore. We've passed through the other side of the tunnel. Welcome to the new world. glad to finally see you come out of the closet.

Honestly, I don't think either record is better than the other. They're two different genres in my opinion. Frankly, both records have highs and lows. Crop and cut both and you arguably have THE BEST OASIS RECORD TO DATE. Best Oasis record? Not a chance. Not in a million years. A damn good Oasis record at least.

Best Oasis record? Not a chance. Not in a million years. A damn good Oasis record at least. I think High Flying Birds is a damn good album by itself and DGSS shows promise of a good album from Beady Eye in the future. Combine the two and, yeah, I'd agree. But Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory still tower over them and most albums released since.

DGSS is a solid album, but its not a fair battle between these two albums, Noel's is by far and away the better album.

I somehow think it's strange that over 90% of Oasis fans seem to prefer Noel's HFB record. When we're talking about Oasis (almost) EVERYBODY agrees that DM and WTSMG are the best. And that's the Oasis I fell in love with as well. I liked DOYS, because it was Oasis, but I would never 'fall in love' with DOYS after hearing it from a random band. D'you know what I mean? We ALL prefer and fell in love with the rock'n'roll Oasis, the passion and the attitude. I know it's never comming back, but Beady Eye is a lot closer to that than the HFB. I don't mind, but I don't understand either

Noel could release a bonus track I can see a liar tomorrow and there would be people saying "10/10 the chief has took his songwriting to a new level" True I do think Noel put out the better album but the people saying its head and shoulders above anything on DGSS baffles me. So us Oasis fans would rather listen to SB&JF instead of say Four Letter? Word?

NGHFB simply has great songs throughout, much stronger than DGSS. Noel has moved on and become much more versatile, and Noel's album sounds much more confident because of it. i like dgss, but its not in same lge.
fave oasis is bhn, always has been, doys is solid, noel songs on there are great, of course first two albums are classics, but moved on from those now and like where Noel is going.

So us Oasis fans would rather listen to SB&JF instead of say Four Letter? Word? I agree that what everyone fell in love with on DM and WTSMG was rock 'n roll Oasis. The thing is that we have 7 albums (and with DGSS, 8) that try to embrace that rock 'n roll sound. I think I would like any of those records better than Noel trying to reinvent himself as a rock 'n roll star...he doesn't have the voice or the attitude for that sort of thing. Liam was always the one who made that sound possible for Oasis. After 8 rock 'n roll records, I'm ready for a change of styles from Noel. This album feels like a breath of fresh air from him...that's part of what I love about it. P.S. I do like FLW better than SBJF.

I've always been on Liam's side. And probably will be, but comparing those two albums by noel and beady eye isn't very hard. Noel's is by far more superior. Listening to every body's on the run makes Noel sound like great singer. Noel is genius. Undeniable.

HFB is miles better than DGSS, there are some great songs on DGSS like FLW, Millionaire, TR, WW and TMS, but the rest is Oasis by numbers, really, Noel songwriting is something completely superior, I don't see LAG wrinting something like EOTR or IIHAG, for me DGSS sounds more like DBTT without the singles, and Lyla TIOBI and LTBL are what elevate DBTT above the average, the same goes for DOYS.

As much as I like Liam, and DGSS is a good album, NGHFB beats it for me. I love thebstrings, choirs, big choruses etc..
Although The Morning Son is my fav tune from the two albums

That's a tie to me. NGHFB has the better songs. DGSS is better to me sound-wise and has Liam singing. Both about a 7/10.

A good few years since both records were released, I think it's fair to say we all have a balanced opinion now! Thoughts on which one is better?
EDIT: Actually, holy crap, make it 4 YEARS since Different Gear. We're getting old...

Both are very fine albums, and have good songs each of them, but Noel's album prevails imo Standout tracks from NGHFB: Everybody's on the Run, What a Life!, The Death of You & Me, If I Had a Gun, and Broken Arrow Standout tracks from DGSS: Four Letter Word, The Roller, Millionaire, Bring the Light, and The Morning Son Add in Dream On and Record Machine to the NG songs, along with TR, FLW, Millionaire, and TMS, and you have a fine Oasis album, or just a really good "Best of" playlist to have.

I really only like Four Letter Word, The Roller, and Beat Goes On. DGSS just sounds like a Beatles wannabe album whereas HFB is just pure Noel. Sure Stop the Clocks and Record Machine were beautiful acoustic songs with electric solo endings on the demo, but they were butchered in production (STC with those those stupid chings and high key change, and RM with the unnecessary choirs and crazy layering of string tracks), but in turn the album is far better. BE was a far better album for them, and I hope, i think, and know (pun intended) that I can say the same for Chasing Yesterday.

Quite different albums. I prefer the rock one, DGSS, no doubt about it. It still sounds fresh and catchy, I find it a great rock 'n' roll album with excellent tunes, while a bunch of Noel's songs on that record - despite being great - sound almost the same. DGSS is among the most underrated records of the last 5 years.
