Don't you think you're a little sensitive? When I post something it's just the way I see it. If it's a little provocative sometimes then it is. I don't have to justify an opinion. I prefer when someone argue on music and explain thing to me the way they see it. Instead you're picking every word I use and you're oversensitive. It's just a forum. I don't think I've insulted people. I've just ask how HFB can be behind DM and MG, when I said "9 is too much", understand "9 is too much in my fucking personnal opinion". And argue on the music, not on my "tone"... "I don't have to justify an opinion" Interesting that this all started because you aske people to justify their opinions to you. HYPOCRITE See you're always doing that. I wrote an entire post explaining to you that I like when people justify their opinion since it's a debate and you're picking one sentence. I meant I don't have to justify my opinion on the way I express my opinion, on being provocative. But it wasn't clear I admit it. But come on, I wrote 3 post explaining to you that I like when people justify their opinion and when I justify mine cause it's a debate, and you're picking on sentence that you like. And I'm the hypocrite? For the last time, there is no problem with asking people to justify opinion, it's called debating. Like we are in BDI section. There is a problem with picking every word someone uses to express an opinion, IT IS NOT INTERESTING AT ALL.

6.5/10
I gave it another listen as i haven't had it on for 3 months. Songwriting good, production good but on the whole a bit plodding and drab.
People who think its a classic or better than the first 3 Oasis albums are a bit weird and strange to me too. But each to their own.

There is a problem with picking every word someone uses to express an opinion, IT IS NOT INTERESTING AT ALL. You are fine when people justify their opinion unless the opinion contradicts yours. Then it's wrong. Several people justified their opinions musically...including spaneli. But you refuse to allow that their opinions as being a valid reason to affect their scoring and just prattle on about your own opinions like they matter. Person A: I think the songwriting is great. 9/10 You: I'm not impressed with the songwriting Person A: I think the songwriting is 9/10 You: It's not even close to MG/DM Person A: I think it is But yeah...everyone else is the one criticizing your opinion. People justified and you said what they thought was wrong. You argued with spaneli for ages because he loves the songwriting...and you don't. You asked people to justify their opinions...spaneli did JUST THAT so you replied with a post about why his opinions was wrong. Which is what you have done in every post. If someone says that they think EOTR/IIHAG is as good as anything on DM/MG YOUR rebuttals has been, "but I think they aren't" (like your opinion matters) which is why you seem incapable of absorbing what everyone else is saying. What the hell do you expect people to say? "Oh well, if you think they aren't I should revisit my scoring because I have made an error!" You asked why people voted it a 9? Because most of the board likes the songs better than you do. Easy. If you want to know WHY people voted like they did just read their posts. It's not about you so I don't know why you would feel you needed to challenge spaneli's opinion why replied to your request to know why he rated it why he did.

I think people may have forgotten what greatness is.

No, we don't have a problem with what great is. We just believe the bloody album is great.

You're probably not referring to me, so pardon me if you're not. I certainly haven't that HFB is as good as MG or DM. I've said that the songwriting is his best since BHN and possibly MG. But that doesn't mean that I think that it's a classic album or as good as MG or DM. Just that I believe that the songwriting is his best since then. And because my personal criteria is just on the songwriting, rather than all the elements of the album put together. Which is why I gave it a 9. I gave it a 9 purely on the criteria of songwriting.

I was not referring to you specifically at all spaneli, like you point out theres a difference between great and classic. And while we don't agree on the final score I completely appreciate why you would rate it so. To Thuperthonic, I agree people have forgotten that. Its like with classic albums, take Adele's album for example. It has had a massive impact sales wise and will probably influence the popular music scene for some time to come, it is well written, well produced and she has an amazing voice. Is it my thing? No, not at all, but if people look back and call it a classic or her classic album then I think thats completely right. I apologise if no one has said that about Noel's haha. I literally may only be talking to NL4E.

Well I gave it a 7, and I think its about right. Sometimes I listen to some songs, my favorites being AKA What a Life and AKA Broken Arrow, the other ones not so much.
I really enjoyed the b-sides though ;D

"I don't have to justify an opinion" Interesting that this all started because you aske people to justify their opinions to you. HYPOCRITE This guy (girl) posted previously under a different name and spent his (her?) time derailing threads in the same garbled logic-free manner, attacking people for having opinions different than his (or her) own. I recall a deathless thread on the Red Hot Chili Peppers in particular. dead-nuts. The turd in the punch bowl if one ever existed.

fuck, these 11 paragraph, pointless, droning, literary catastrophes are a blunt reminder why I have 1,400 posts here over the last 7 years and not thousands over 1-3 like a number of keg-heads.
Absolute fucking drivel from a small-pool of mouth-breathers parading about like a band of wannabe, posturing, poets.
dreadful.
get the fuck out of here while you can, people.

I gave it an 8, and think that's about fair. A couple of songs are up their with Noel's classics (Everybody's On The Run, If I Had A Gun), but I also don't care much for a couple of tunes (Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks, Stranded On The Wrong Beach).

I give NGHFB an 8.5 or 9 on the songwriting scale - It couldve been the best Oasis album since BHN
As far as enjoyability goes, I love the album, but I never find myself in the mood to listen to it. I love all the songs but I still enjoy Beady Eye's album loads more. By that I mean, for every 4 spins that gets, NGHFB probably gets 1. Dont know why, cuz I think the writing on Noel's album is lightyears better than BDI's so far. mmmmm

I actually like every song on the album and think most of them are absolutely better than a lot of the BDI album, but for some weird reason it just hasnt perhaps sunken in....? Its hard to explain. I have absolutely nothing against it, I just find it lacking the energy of BDI even tho the songwriting is so much better.

Only the knuckle-draggers on this board would have this LP at a "9", "10", or "11" out of 10. 60% of the membership, at that. The LP has overwhelmingly been properly reviewed by the media for change: it's good, not great. 3 "great" songs and 7 that are average to good. The 68/69 on metacritic after 33 reviews seems nearly perfect to me: www.metacritic.com/music/noel-gallaghers-high-flying-birdsIt's "good", nothing more, really.

Well...now that has been empirically settled!
Paint me SHOCKED that on average the fan on a FANSITE would like an album more than members of the general public who have a much more varied taste.
After all...who are FANS to disagree with the almighty CRITIC. Those people are above reproach...after all...they're professionals! Never any bias' there!
What is with people coming on the Internet thinking that they have the right to proscribe other people's opinions as their own is empirically right.
But if start at the end says so! Let's all just fix our votes then. Everyone above or below 7 should adjust it to 7...because that is the average opinion of the critics...and endorsed by the massive brain that is start at the end.
I think the knuckled-draggers are those too thick to comprehend to concept of individual opinions. And the true meaning of an AVERAGE...which means some like it more than the average and some like it less than the average, not that everyone should like it the same as the average and the only right opinion is one consistent with the average.

exactly.... and tho some critics did like it better than Diff Gear, those reviews came mainly from the UK. many of the US papers/magazines gave BDI's album a better rating.
I still think It's a very good album, EOTR was my favorite, but now i am not sure that it's better than IIHAG. At one point i myself compared(EOTR) to The Masterplan, guess i was just a prisoner of the moment.

A fansite containing "critiques" that are more "lenient" "embellished", "generous", "inaccurate", "etc are everywhere, duh. The point- something you seem to miss with startling consistentcy- is of course how abusrdly detached from reality the opinions of a large number on THIS board happen to be. Do you understand mean, median, and mode, along with a cursory grasp of basic statistics? I'm guessing not by your idiotic depiction of the metacritic data. The vast, vast, majority of reviews have been "good"...very few above or below. It isn't an "average" per se in the traditional sense at all. Duh. "Individual opinions". Ummm, sure. It's my "opinion" that Ryan horward is the greatest first baseman in the history of MLB. There you go., that's my opinion so it can't be wrong. Idiotic of course. But there will also be dolts who hide behind the word "opinion" like it's an impenetrable fortress. That's just one of the many ways society can separate the intellects from the imbeciles. thanks, then.

There were of course outliers on either side of the ATL.
