I don't see what's wrong with Noel playing Oasis songs. And I doubt people would pay 50+ bucks only to see 5 or 6 Oasis songs played live without Liam. It only lures in people who are not sure whether to go or not. My friends didn't want to go to Beady Eye with me 'cause they wouldn't play Oasis songs. They're going to Noel with me however. And they're not even big music fans or oasis fans. I guess most of them don't know much more than DLBIA, Wonderwall, and Cigs & Alcohol. If they like Oasis, they'll probably like Noel too. BTW, I would be happy if any of my friends liked Oasis at all Paul McCartney plays Beatles songs, Morrissey sings Smiths songs, Ian Brown sings Stone Roses songs and Noel will sing Oasis songs And 3 out of those 4 sing tunes they didn't even write (not 100% at least).

First off let me say, I respect Beady Eye for not playing any Oasis songs. They were committed to starting anew. I have no problem with Noel doing it though (I wouldn't have if BDI did either). Then again, for the most part, I think Beady's songs were better on average than most of the LAG songs from Oasis. Sure we associate those songs with Oasis but Noel did write them. Look, he only has 10 songs on the album and 3 b-sides. We know he's not playing STC so that leaves 12 songs, none of which are long. That means he has room for about five more songs. What do you want him to do? 5 covers? He might as well cover his own Oasis songs. i've been saying it from day #1. I don't like the fact that he's playing Oasis songs. And yes they are Oasis songs. Noel keeps saying he "doesn't see then as Oasis songs" and that they're his songs. And i get what he's trying to say but ... sorry to say this Noel, no one really thinks of "Noel Gallagher" when they hear Live Forever or WW or CS, people think Oasis. just like people immediately think Elton John when they hear "Tiny Dancer", just like people think Michael Jackson when they hear "Man in the mirror". I was like, fine whatever... he'll play a couple of Oasis songs, let him play DLBIA and IOBI and maybe one more. He feels the need to play those songs for a reason. Obviously he's not confident enough in his new material, i really don't know... but now he's making it sound like he's gonna end up playing 5 or 6 Oasis songs. Come on now.

The more Oasis songs, the better. What are some people complaining about? He's playing practically the full album and some bsides. The more Oasis songs we get from him is just an added bonus. It's not like he's sacrificing his solo work for them. The more the merrier.
And I still fucking want Going Nowhere, even though that will never happen. That epic needs to get played live though. It's too good to be continually ignored.

Easy way out? No, I don't think so. I'm not having that.
Great interview, but watch from 6.42:
Noel clearly, so very clearly, has an attachment to 'those' songs (as do the fans). It would be outrageous, outrageous if he didn't play them.
Still have no idea what Lgfaver is complaining about. Some people are never happy.

This is how I look at it:
Noel Gallagher is first and foremost, a songwriter. If he comes to Australia, I'll go see him because I'd like to see him perform the songs he has written. He wrote songs in Oasis, and he writes songs now. The songs he wrote prior to the breakup were performed by Oasis, but they were still written by Noel Gallagher.
He should play as many of his new songs as he can, and fill the rest of his show with older songs. They are his songs. We know he wants to play them to us, and most of us want to hear them.
I can't see a problem with being given another chance to see Don't Look Back In Anger or Live Forever played live. If anything, it's something to look forward to.

I understand him wanting to play the big hits and that's likely what we'll get (or at least the Noel solo big hits): WW, DLBIA, HTWA, The Masterplan, Talk Tonight...all classics.
But wouldn't it be great if he threw in a few surprises, particuarly from the ever so underrated 2000s catalogue? Mucky Fingers, LDSMD, She is Love, WDIAGW. That'd make me real happy.
And I agree completely about Going Nowhere. If there's going to be a brass band on hand, then now's the time to play it. It's an amazing tune.

i personally want some surprises if he's going to play some Oasis songs. as cool as it would be to hear him do the standards (Live Forever, DLBIA, Masterplan, etc), it would be shocking and probably pleasant to hear him tackle something else that we didn't expect. like at TCT when he played rockin chair and digsy's diner.
my fingers are crossed on step out making a return appearance.

Noel has just as much right to choose to play songs he has written as Liam and co chose not to play songs they had written. They are his songs. He doesn't give a shit what band name they were released under. Paul Weller plays Jam song, Paul McCartney plays Beatles songs, Morrissey sings Smiths songs, Ian Brown sings Stone Roses songs and Noel will sing Oasis songs I would understand the concern about him playing Oasis songs if he had gone and formed another proper band (like if Gorillaz had gone and played Blur songs), but this is him solo and I have no problem with him doing it. This.

Yes Noel wrote the Oasis songs he's planning on playing at his gigs but IMO it's a pussy way out! I like how BE had the pair of diamond balls and went out with NO oasis tunes. Right right right I get it Noel wrote them, not saying their shit song or anything but c'mon don't play them on you're very first time outta the ring, they're a fucking crutch. Someone mentioned fans not paying 50bucks for just 5 Oasis songs. The casual fans that hear Noel will be playing oasis songs will probably think half the gig will be oasis songs. Not going on forums or reading interviews and be aware hat it's really only going to be a couple of Oasis tunes. IDK about you guys but the only time I wanna hear Oasis tunes played live is when L&N sort it out and get back together and if that day never comes, well i have the memories from gigs I heard them at. The Team Noel clique in here can talk all the shit they want about BE but again, they had the balls to take on the tour with BE material alone!

The big difference between Noel and BDI is that BDI could have played some solid Oasis songs that are not much better than their new tunes. Noel can play true classics. I'm sure that BDI would play Live Forever, Wonderwall etc. if Liam had wrote them. (Doesnt make a big difference though as that is a completely unrealistic scenario ;D)

Would have been interesting if both Liam and Noel played Oasis songs live. Too bad that's not happening. I'm just happy that we will be getting to hear some of the Oasis classics live.

Question for Deasy55 and BlueJay - How many Beatles songs did Macca play on his first solo/Wings tour? Add those to how many Jam songs Weller played on his first Style Council tour, if you want also add in how many he played on his first 'Paul Weller Experience Tour' Then add that figure to how many Stone Roses songs Ian Brown played on his first solo tour and to get your final figure add it to the amount of Smiths songs Morrisey played on his first solo tour.
I'd be pretty confident your final answer will be 0, none, zero.
But if I was wrong then I bet that those 4 artists named played less that 5 combined as I know for a fact that Weller didn't play Jam songs again until the mid 90's and McCartney didn't play any Beatles songs on his debut Wings tour (Wings Over Europe). Ian Brown has only started playing Roses songs in the last few years or so. Morrissey is the one I'm less certain about but I'd wager he didn't play any either.
They all had new material to showcase to their fans, they all wanted to move on from their past because they were happy to let go of it.
Noel clearly isn't

BDI gigs were all Oasis tunes, it's just that we didn't hear them before. So the BE tunes were all Oasis songs because they were written while LAG were in Oasis and we just hadn't heard them but the songs Noel wrote over the same period and longer while he was also a member of Oasis are Noel's songs??? Yeah right, that arguement stacks up.

More Oasis songs than planned? Yes please Shame about Supersonic, but it's one of the songs he never played live (the few acoustic versions are good, but I don't know of an electric performance with him singing). If RNRS, Supersonic and Lyla are the songs he considered and decided not to go with I'm pretty sure we'll see DLBIA, The Masterplan, Live Forever and/or Listen Up. All the Oasis songs will be acoustic.

In regards to Style Council.......as above Ian Brown.....I'm not sure he actually wrote any Stone Roses songs by himself? Morrissey....I'm not sure on him playing Smiths songs on his first solo tour (A google search told me he did, but the source was unreliable), but then again all the Smiths tracks were cowritten and I'm fairly sure Marr was very influential in all tracks. The thing with Noel is that they are all his tracks and fully his tracks, this wasn't the case with Brown/Morrissey. And I have already explained the new band thing earlier on in this thread (in reference to The Style Council and Wings)

And I have already explained the new band thing earlier on in this thread (in reference to The Style Council and Wings) Morrissey and Marr have co writing credits on almost every single track The Smiths put forth. Morrissey also did a final Smiths gig at Wolverhampton 88 right after the Smiths split as a final hoorah, lets bury the Smiths, Smiths are Dead and he played with the entire band minus Johnny. After that, on his first solo tour and for over a decade of him touring NON STOP, he did NOT play ANY Smiths songs. He treated us with NEW material only. If I'm not mistaken, the 1st time Moz played a Smiths track POST Smiths, was 1998, "Shoplifters Of the World Unite And Take Over". I can't believe Noel can not go even one tour without playing Oasis tunes, give a fuck whether they are his or not. Either Noels not over Oasis or he feels he cant put on a good show relying on his solo material alone. In any event, I'll be there to cheer Noel on.

First and foremost, everything Deasy says. We've had our differences in the past but he's one of the small minority on this forum who actually knows what he's talking about. I feel smarter everytime I read one of his posts. Secondly, martinpaul and jilliam - which part of hearing your favourite songwriter play some of your favourite songs do you not like? It's a bonus onto the full album (besides STC) that he will play live. Would you rather a 60 minute show or a 90 minute show? Are you both idiots or mega-idiots? Do you have the same attitude towards bonus tracks and bonus discs on official releases like the Itunes Roundhouse CD on Time Flies and the Manchester gig on the LDSMD dvd? Need I say more? Ian Brown.....I'm not sure he actually wrote any Stone Roses songs by himself? There's no actual way of ever knowing, but it's insteresting to note that neither Squire nor Brown have ever publicly taken full credit for any Roses songs like McCartney and Lennon did with Beatles songs. For instance, given Squire's Seahorses and subsequent solo career were not only drastically tame in comparison to any Roses composistions but also weak in comparison to Brown's solo work, I'd think that Brown would have written the main melodies/structures for some songs at least; 'Where Angels Play?', 'Don't Stop' and 'Sugar Spun Sister' spring to mind - the more dance orientated tracks I would associated more with Brown (Although 'Fools Gold' seems unlikley to be within his creative reach). It was Brown, for example, who convinced the band to make 'I Am the Resurrection' a full eight minute progressive dancefloor anthem, rather than the subdued and more preferred 3-4 minute structures that befitted most of the tracks on the debut record.

I think that Brown and Squire worked on every line and every hook for days, so there's probably no telling who exactly came up with what...
