Watching Beady Eye at the Gurten Festival, Liam blew me away and the band was on top form. But for what? The spotlight is on Noel and Beady Eye seem to be forgotten already.
It's as though he is shining and giving it his all but at the wrong time. He has put a lot of effort into Beady Eye, particularly in improving his voice. But the spirit and energy have been sucked both out of the band's atmosphere and the atmosphere of the crowds that are in attendance.
It's easy to see that he didn't care much for Oasis in the later years, I just wish he'd put this much effort into 2000s era Oasis.
It's almost as if we have to have one good thing and always one bad thing to come with it. It was always going to be either option a) or b)
a) We had to have Liam's bad voice... but with Oasis' songs and the energy of Oasis' crowds. b) We get to have Liam's voice in great form...but with average songs at best and lifeless crowds.

i get what you're saying about Liam's voice during the last Oasis tours but... i don't agree that he's now singing on what are "average songs at best", look, LAG may not be the songwriters that Noel is, but they have some very good songs. Sure they have some terrible ones(BTL, B&S) but imo 4LW, 3RC, Wigwam and to a lesser extend TBGO, "bubble with a bullet" and TMS are great songs.
Sure, it's a shame that BDI have not been as successful as Oasis were but seriously, how many bands are that successful? There's only a handful. Oasis is done and there's currently nothing that can match what they were, not BDI, not NGHFB...

Have you seen the gigs in Japan and Korea? The crowd is mad for them.I get what you are saying but it's kinda impossible for the crowd to have the same energy for songs they heard six months ago unlike oasis.

It really isn't about the songs here, it's really about the sheer fact that their idols are there.

when i saw them the crowd was far from 'lifeless' I may be wrong here, I'm just judging from filmed and televised performances as I haven't seen them live. But there's definitely a lack of energy in 80% of the footage I've seen.

right, but again, your mistake is you're comparing them to the crowds reaction to one of the biggest bands in the world, of all time!
It's new songs, new band, new everything.... some might say new sound.
BDI songs are obviously not classics, at least not yet, how could they be? they've just been released.
Even with all that, i've seen loads of videos where people are going mad during 4LW and even Bring The Shite.

When I went to them back in April it was the most drab gig I'd ever been at. I was a sad sight to see

They just need a bit of time. Normally with a new band, they gig and put out tunes for a year or two even before a debut album. Beady Eye have had to unleash a new concept and new setlist on fans in 6 or 7 months.
To make up for time lost, they have had to over tour almost. Playing 3 UK tours as well as festivals plus going around Europe, Asia and the Americas.
After the 2nd record, they'll have a bigger fanbase and people will become accustomed to the tunes, then we can judge them but its unfair to now.

I saw them in the first run of UK dates and the atmosphere and crowd reaction was brilliant, extremely postitive and re-affirming, mass singing along to songs only just released and very, very like early post-signed Oasis gigs. A good mix of old fans and 18-20 years, and 60/40 male female, mostly dressed up for it.
Personal, anecdotal experience is much better than trying to judge from film/youtube/tv. I've been to amazing gigs that look poor on vid, and shit gigs that are made to look like they went down amazingly.
It will be interesting to see what the 'seated crowd' gigs do for noel, and what kind of crowd his 'nothing to see, plenty to hear' vibe draws after the first run of dates.

I'm not ignoring them one bit. Seeing them in 1,5 month and gonna be great if Liam's putting this much effort into the gig.

BDI aren't something for the public. on every festival i saw them, nobody really cared about them. the crowd enjoyed themselves and not the songs. it's like you are hearing a new band singing oldfashion songs

I saw BE in London so I think it was the 3rd or 4th gig and they were all amazing. The atmosphere was as good/if not better than every single Oasis gig I went too after 2000. Now that could easily be because the venue was smaller and it was fresh songs, seeing Oasis come the end was the same 10-12 songs every tour and got very, very boring

Have you been to a BDI gig BlueJay or have you just watched crowds on the telly at festivals?
The crowd are far from lifeless at proper gigs.

It's impossible the separate the enthusiasm for BDI from the enthusiasm of getting something novel. We'll be able to see better on the reception for the second album whether the crowds will keep coming back. Some of the attendance had to have been curiosity. And they haven't sold out the latest UK gigs.
I've not been impressed by any live footage personally. But fair play to those that love it.
Liam's voice sells the BDI tunes...but the novelty of that tends to pale for me. I'd rather listen to a good voice singing great tunes than a great voice singing good tunes.
And Liam didn't care as much about Oasis. He took it for granted and it showed in his performances.
As Bluejay says, it's a pity we couldn't have gotten both. Liam never have tried so hard for Oasis.

Liam never have tried so hard for Oasis. well said. its a shame really. but I think that the oasis songs noel has written havent been in his vocal range at least not between 2000 and 2009. they had to kick out some songs out of the setlist, noel did a lot of crowd favs acoustic and so on. on the other hand the beady eye tunes seem to be quite natural for him. so I think the combination of noel writing songs for liam had to end sooner or later.

Saw them 3 times and they've always put on a great show! Barrowlands and Corn Exchange were awesome, T in The Park was good but the crowd wasn't the best, that's all.

The spirit is there, it's the quality that's been called into question. Beady Eye need to grit their teeth and get through the tough early period. Playing all those festivals to massive crowds who barely know a word to any of your songs, must have been pretty soul-destroying at times. They need to make the 2nd album much better than the first, not that the first was awful, but the lack of Noel was an imposing shadow. Now he's making his own way, Beady Eye will gradually be allowed to go their own way without all the Oasis/Noel questions dominating. I'm concerned with Liam adamantly stating they'll have a new record out in the summer, I think the best thing they could do is take a few months off to properly reflect on the record they made, the reaction they got, and more importantly, to make sure they write the next album properly. It's OK rushing into a new record if you've just make Definitely Maybe and had the reaction that had, but Beady Eye can't afford to give the haters more ammunition to put them down with. IMO, they should take an extra 6 months off, let Noel finish off with the AA record and tour, and then get back out there.

I had hoped for years that Liam would've cleaned up and put in the time to make Oasis great again, but he simply didn't give a crap. He was comfortable being who they were.
Now he has something to prove that Noel is out of the picture and everyone looks to him as the leader if you will. He was never meant to be a leader. It is a bit sad, but that is what we have now. But I tend to agree that the tunes need to step it up to really showcase his new found enthusiasm.
Blame Pettiness!

I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure that the Beady Eye fanbase is still the niche Oasis fansbase that it was a year ago. I don't think they've gained significant amount of new fans. And I think they may be destined to stay a niche act for us Oasis fans, but nothing more. It would take them coming out with an amazing song, or actually an amazing album, and then promoting the crap out of it for their fanbase to grow by any significant amount. People keep saying that they're a new band and if they just tour, and stay at they'll grow like other bands, but Beady Eye aren't a new band. At least not in the sense of what a new band is. Most people who hear any song by Liam will always have preconceived notions of dislike/annoyance toward him, or genuinely like him. The people who like him are already fans. The people who are annoyed by him will probably never be turned. New bands don't have that problem, they're new. Beady Eye do. The have to aim toward the middle. The people who just don't know not only them, but also Liam.

I would really like to see Liam and Co. just take time off and write. I wouldn't mind another 6 months added on onto the wait, if they were to come up with 2-3 class tunes during that time.
