That is the first time I've ever heard Slide Away described as second rung! Also the first time I've ever heard Slide Away equated to Magic Pie! Really?

When I tell my kids and grandkids about how Oasis and Noel Gallagher were great, I will mention this song along with the likes of The Masterplan, Don't Look Basck in Anger, Supersonic, Morning Glory, Whatever, Slide Away, Wonderwall, and all that other jazz.

Looks like I'm the only one who's a bit disappointed with it then...

Maybe it's because it's new, but I seriously doubt it this time around. So excuse me if I spoke to soon, but I think this truly stands along side Noel's very very best.
It won't mean more to the general public than Wonderwall, but it's much better than Wonderwall (probably due to it being over played for the best part of 2 decade). It has the same emotional connect as DLBIA, but with meaningful lyrics.
It's haunting and has seriously impressed me.
But as you say, to each his own.

10/10 really? I can appreciate people thinking its great but ffs. Would the person said it will be remembered in 20 years as a classic like a wager to that effect?
For me its sounds like a song Noel could write in his sleep. And from what we've heard so far it sounds like might have to get the slippers and hot chocolate out when i listen to it.

I'd say If I Had a Gun is as good as Slide Away, but not quite there with DLBIA. So, if we're using this retarded tier system, bottom first rung or top second.

I'm excited because I think this song could get significant play in America. I definitely see why they decided to release it as a single here instead of TDOYAM. It just has that "American radio" feel, but it's actually very good. The chorus is so catchy that I know people will be humming it wherever they go.

The Death Of You And me was ok, but this song... Wow! Can be a classic. Love the melody and everything about the song. Liked "Forgive me if I spoke too soon" lyrics from the soundcheck better, though.

Disagree with spaneli. This is a top tier NG tune. Fits comfortably with the classics. I've mentioned this before in this forum, but Noel's late period tunes-as great as they are-seem "crafted" (SCYHO, TIOBI), whereas the MG and DM stuff sounds seamlessly brilliant-like Noel was making great songs out of whole cloth with no labour. As much as I like TDOYAM-it sounds like the toil of a craftsman. IIHAG is like the tunes on the old ones--it sounds completely seamless, plucked out of the air. Just a beautiful, timeless tune that goes where it should without sounding obvious. It could become a classic in it's own right, but I don't see it being a "true" classic, that we mention in the same breath some of the great Oasis songs or some of the great songs of other artists. Which is what I'm trying to say. TIOBI is a classic, but it's a classic in a different way. Basically spaneli is saying that the odds are stacked against it becoming a rock standard. And he is right. Correct me if I am wrong. But bands and artists usually only have a small window when everything flows together for something of their to be a phenomenon. Oasis had that in the mid-90's. Noel probably won't get there again. I like the person that said that this song in like it was plucked out of the air. It isn't forced. It isn't overproduced. It's just effortlessly beautiful. It's been a long time since Noel has written anything that stood alone like this. It may well be as classic as Noel will ever get. This the most organic song he's written in a decade

Am I the only 1 who thinks this will sound better live? A very good song, will be a grower. Still to class it the same as TM, DLBIA, WW and whatever is a bit too far.

Idk, maybe it's because I've heard the previous version so many times, but I'm just feeling it as much. I know it's a good song, my ears are telling me it's a good song, but I can't make the leap to "classic". Could someone help me jump?

I'm just telling you to enjoy it and not have some underdeveloped "foresight" into the intrinsic value of said piece in your appraisal considering intake was just mere aeons ago.

I wasnt super keen on the Death of you and me (Still a good song) but this ones brilliant.
I must admit as i've listened to that soundcheck one on youtube a LOT i really do like that more basic/acoustic type of version. This full versions excellent though.
Great to hear it for the first time
