I'm loving the production on this song. I'm still not sure about the tweaked melody from the soundcheck, but I imagine I'll get used to it.
This is a beautiful song.

I just got home and listened to it, i think it is absolutely stunning, i liked the soundcheck version alot but i love this, agree with the "forgive me" lyrics but maybe its cos we got so used to them and will like "excuse me" as much when we are fully used to the recorded version Extremely single worthy 9/10 for me at the moment I reckon "Forgive me..." was a bit too cliche-ish, so...yeah. Plus "excuse me" has a more proletarian feel to it, and without being pussy about it, you know what I mean? I'm not gonna get my on hands on knees for a girl, like.

Not trying to blast on people here, but I always find it comical how convinced people are that: "if this was this" or "that ended up like this" how much "better" a song would've turned out.
really, how arrogant?
as if a fkn guy with 2 dozen top 10 hits went into the studio, played it one time through and didn't consider (and apply) more alterations than a tailor working for a GQ photoshoot before being "satisified" with it? Never mind what it went through in the months/years, prior?
the song is what it is and is pretty fkn unblemished as far as I'm concerned.
All internet producer crystal balls aside.

I had a hard time with the excuse me bit...but after a half a dozen repeats it doesn't even register.
Had the same problem with "Only god I will ever need" vs "Only god a man could ever need"
It's because we have been listening to a different version for 3 years. It'll take a while to get used to the lyrical difference. They both scan just as well once you get past thinking that you already know the lyrics.
I was a bit worried with the acoustic intro that it was going to sound too much like Wonderwall. It doesn't.
Right now...about an 8.5...but I think it's a grower. This is a solid hit in my collection.

I like TDOYAM, it's good. But my God it pales in comparison to this masterpiece. Noel at his finest. 10/10 without a doubt.

Posted this in the other thread:
I can't make a fair assessment.
I've been playing it to myself for too long on my guitar over the past couple of years. I had already made my mind up as to how I wanted it to sound. I'm pretty I'm undervaluing it for that reason.
For the moment is a 8.5/10 for me.
Even with my judgement being somewhat clouded, I don't think that anyone can put this among the Masterplan, DLBIA, etc. Nor can I say that it's a 10/10. I think it will fit in the second rung of really really good Noel songs. But I don't think it's a classic, or it will be up there with the classics. I think the euphoria of the moment is getting to some people.
To each their own I guess.

am i the only one who thinks it doesnt need strings? I don't. I don't want the album to be smothered in strings. Unless they are used strategically they sound cliched. Sure everything sounds more grandious and anthemic with strings...but if you don't need them it's just throwing too much at it. This song it pretty simple...why laden it with strings?

Does anyone else love the extended ending to the second chorus. It's just one of those "YES!!" moments

I'm pretty sure it'll be a solid 9 for me in the end. Also...I thought you were a woman. HAHA. I only ever read your name.

I think it may grow to a 9, but I don't see how people are saying 10/10.

So excuse me if I spoke to soon, but I think this truly stands along side Noel's very very best. It won't mean more to the general public than Wonderwall, but it's much better than Wonderwall (probably due to it being over played for the best part of 2 decade). It has the same emotional connect as DLBIA, but with meaningful lyrics. It's haunting and has seriously impressed me. But as you say, to each his own.
