Its not bad first listen. Its a 'typical' Noel song for me, bit of a slower paced affair than Liams usual rockier songs.
This songs not too bad, the french horn I cant stand when it comes in later in the instrumental bit. Sounds a bit ridiculous.
Doesnt sound like a first single/comeback single, sounds like a decent album track. Still better than 99% of stuff in the charts but was expecting a bit more
Then again i wasnkeen on Bring the light at all but loved the album by Beady Eye

it's just classic Noel fucking Gallagher. His melodies are second to none I mean who even thinks of these melodies? They just soar above the chords. This is what i wanted from Noel. It's a bit odd, its kinda groovin, kinda western, kinda jazzy, and that chorus pop stomp A soaring melody. It's sgt pepper mixed with Magical Mystery Tour but its so Noel. Its similar to TIOBI but its got its own twist. It's better than anything Beady Eye has put out. ^^^ There it is.

the production is pure beauty! but the song sounds like some noel gallagher songbook mashup of the last 7 years. hopefully this one gets some radio airplay and will chart in the top ten. cheers

Not to compare to Beady Eye, but I think it would be hard for anyone to listen to this and not think that it would be at least one of the Top 3 songs on DGSS. I also sensed a nice New Orleans Jazz vibe from it, and some Magical Mystery Tour/Sgt. Pepper's on it. Nice showing by Noel. The thing that really gets me going, is that this is definitely not the best song on the album. We have more brilliant tracks coming.

That chorus was stuck in my head after one listen... terrific first single. Great video, too. Definitely gives off a DBTT-era vibe, which works for me.

well then, here we go. my first impressions...
first of all, the video is completely retarded(though the waitress is HAWT) so unless you're a fanboy we can all agree on that.
On to the important part, the music.
It has that TIOBI sound, a palpable folk sound and just like that song, it's not bad at all. Unfortunately for TDOYAM , there's nothing extraordinary about it. And by that i mean there's not one part of the song that gives you chills or makes you go "ahh yeah... that's why i love Noel Gallagher/Oasis". Again, that doesn't mean the song is not good. Like everything in life, it's all relative, and there will be people(mainly Noel fanboys and apologists) claiming this is the best shit since "Don't Look back in Anger", just like there are Kobe fanboys out there saying Jordan's got nothing on him. LOL
but back on point... Just like i thought, Noel wasn't gonna be putting out stuff that was in the same league with the early Oasis stuff, i think it's pretty safe to say that was a given but there were those swearing Noel would "show me" and "shut everybody's mouth". on with there review... the song lacks any serious sense of punch and there is no hook whatsoever... not a good one anyways. I think this has a shot however, to make the VH1 top20 weekly countdown(U.S.) and that would really do wonders for Noel profile here in the states. I feel like this song(and sound) targets an older audience, this isn't Oasis obviously but then again, it's just one song. On the the comparisons... Beady Eye's stuff(not all) was a bit more catchy and sounded more like Oasis. IT goes without saying that we can only judge based on this one song, but that's all we got at the moment. BDI also sounded more like Oasis(and yes, that's a good thing for me) because that's the way it was always gonna be having the same vocalist. If im not mistaken, this is the HFB's first actual(for real) single, this is no promo(free download/teaser) shit, this is the real deal, and comparing this to The Roller(BDI's first proper single) is quite interesting. Even if Noel hates it, One can't help but imagine what "The Death of You and Me" would sound like if Liam was singing it. I have no problem saying i believe it would be 100 times a better song but oh well...
I am glad it didn't take Noel 3 years to release something and i am glad that i can say it's good music. I don't know that this will be the best song on the album, i sure hope that's not the case. However, there's a strong possibility that this is the most "commercial/marketable" song, and that would be a complete and utter disaster.

I don't care for the video, but I don't care for any music video anyway.
But the song is so fucking catchy. I love it. It's really a good hooker for the album. I hope they start playing this song on the radio in America. Thanks Be To Noel.

It's ok, as soon as I read about the TIOBI and GOYHHL comparisons I started to get worried. I didn't really want another "quirky" type Noel number but this is alright. I like the brass section. It will probably do ok radio play wise and might hit the top 20 in the charts. 1st singles these days are usually fairly dumbed down affairs for the masses so this doesn't worry about what we'll get on the album itself. 7/10 imo.

I'm pleased Noel isn't trying to pander to the masses. All I want is good music from him, and once again he has delivered.

I really like it. It's "Noel pop" at it's very best. It's like a lollipop version of TIOBI whatever that means.....
And for whoever said it had no hooks, good grief man..............

If Liam sang this tune he wouldn't of been able to hit those high notes. Noel wrote this songs specifically for himself to sing, end of.
