made it through first 6 pages, thought this was going to be a discussion on noel's new song, but i can see it has morphed into the usual slagging off fest.
don't hate it, but don't love it. i actually laughed out loud during the bridge. 6/10 for me, better stuff on the album for sure, bad choice for lead-off single.

of course there will be people who love this tune. i think i already said it but some people are just... ugh.... what are we talking about here? there are people who prefer jazz to rock, there are those who like hip hop better than country DUH!? anything is possible, it's relative, like anything in life really. not everyone who likes this track is a noel fanboy, in what head could this actually.... JEEZ!! fanboys are the ones claiming that this is better than anything BDI's put out. also there's those saying this is a "masterpiece" or that this is "up there with Noel's best stuff" . Couldn't be more clear, good god. just to entertain you. what BDI song is better musically and lyrically, all around? and also, do you play any instruments? fucker!!!!!!!!!!! I don't really see whats amazing lyrically about it and as far as the music goes I prefer a lot of DGSS. If you are saying the music is technically better than your probably right. I'd say FLW is far superior to this imo of course.

Its a pretty pedestrian tune and very safe. I'm not surprised about this knowing what we know about the two separate albums, so no disappointment. I was hoping for something stronger though.
As for the tune, I'm mixed right now. There's elements to it I really like (the intro sets the table well) and the different instrumentation is a nice touch. It's just really safe. Its Noel by Numbers. This is a bit sad because its exactly what I felt about BDI when I first heard them (Oasis by numbers minus Noel), but I definitely like this track more than anything by BDI, so thats a definite plus haha.
I'm sure there are better songs on the record and I can see this one growing on me a little bit, but after about 5 or 6 listens, its just lacking any balls.

After 2:25 of the video when he pushes her in the water, i can sense the stadium singalong that will occur.

I was first disappointed to find the supposed "snippet " from the video wasn't the actual song. That I really liked and hope that is on the CD. However, after listening to it a few more times, I am enjoying it more. Many have already said it sounds very similar to TIOBI and that was the first thing to enter my mind as well. Ditch the horns and go with a guitar solo. Just a personal feeling.
The song was good, but not great. I find myself enjoying the Everybody on the Run instrumental alot more.
I'm still looking forward to hearing the b-side to the single and the CD in the fall.

God bless.

The brass section reminds me of Rainy Day Woman by Bob Dylan. Not that they are similar in any way musically.

Honestly, I think this is an 8/10. Very, very solid start from Noel and one of the catchier melodies he's written in a long time. I never liked TIOBI that much, nor was I a fan of HHL (though I don't think it's as bad as some people have made it out to be).
This felt much more accessible and heartfelt lyrically than anything Noel did on DOYS.
I understand the TIOBI comparisons, but I do like this better. Judging by gdforever's poll, I'm in the minority there.
As for comparisons to BDI, after the first listen I had a strong urge to flip BDI the bird and proclaim Noel the winner of the breakup. This song is much better lyrically than most if not all of BDI's debut, but the sound and goal of the songs is so different that it's really difficult to come up with any meaningful comparable from DGSS to TDOYAM.
Noel's stuff is always going to be better lyrically I think, and that will work better with the kind of experimentation that he seems to have done on the album...it just wouldn't hold up with the more simplistic lyrics that we've typically gotten from Liam, Andy, and Gem over the years.
I think overall NGHFB will end up beating DGSS far and away. The songs we haven't heard yet would have to be a major disappointment for it to fall short.

What stadiums are you talking about? what, didn't you hear? according to a lot of people posting on the youtube video, Noel will be rocking stadiums while Liam and co. are relegated to cheap clubs with capacities limited to 57 people.

The Death Of You and Me is great! Gets better with each listen. First Impression was that it reminds me alot of The Importance of Being Idle (which is a good thing) . Noel does a great job of utilizing the brass section....love his voice with his Falsettos. The chorus is good to, a nice steady beat that really hits you. GREAT TUNE! Better than ANYTHING Beady Eye has put out. Cant wait for the album! nice to see you posting. I hope all is well! I've played the tune about 15 times it just keeps getting better. Noel is evolving as a writer so glad he isn't turning out the wanna be Oasis tunes circa 94-97. Im doing well, been back in Afghanistan since Feb, but will be leaving to come back to the States next month. I still peruse the site just dont post much anymore. Been looking forward to Noels new album for a very long time....I must say this song has me even MORE excited. I really think he nailed it

SUPERB, Its catchy as fuck, superb melody, sing along chorus - Why are people even dissapointed with it, Nothing wrong with it whatsoever. If he used it as a b-side everyone would say 'what a waste ,superb tune' but because its the single 'oh,not what i was hoping for!!' Jesus people

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about DGSS. Apart from liking FLW the whole way through, I like the verse and bridge of TRC, the chorus of SOTEOTN and the slide solo of Morning Son. Just snatches of goodness here and there. I feel terrible saying this, but on a few songs, I don't even like Liam's voice much anymore. Anyway, that's just my opinion and I respect that many of you will disagree with me. Anyway, I really like the Noel single, gonna be a cracking live singalong.

YouTube comment sections are the sewer lines of the internet. If you're ever in the mood for the most ridiculous, vile and racially charged comments, just hop on there and check out what those mongoloids are saying. Humanity at its best right there. It's hilarious and terrible at the same time. Hey lg, you're lukewarm on TDOYAM, does this affect your expectations for the album? And other than a new 'Step Out', what would actually make you happy? What kind of song(s) would get you excited?

I'm a big fan of High Horse Lady and i'm not a 'fanboy' Oh yes, anybody that likes a track you dont is automatically a fanboy. Gotcha. (And there's plenty of Noel written songs I have a strong dislike for and haven't listened to in years, so don't reply with the "you obviously are a Noel fanboy" rubbish) i wont, YOU will do that for me though.... answer this, do you think this song is better than any song BDI has released? In full disclosure, I do think this is a better song than just about everything BDI's released, bar Four Letter Word and possibly World Outside My Room. Here's why. (Please don't call me a fanboy.) Noel's songs usually have a strong melody. None of the songs on DGSS have a soaring chorus like this one does. That's my biggest thing. Strictly from a songwriting perspective, Noel is just a marvel to listen to. My biggest gripe with BDI is several songs sounded like they were missing entire sections. What really makes TDOYAM for me is during the very last chorus at the "I can feel the storm clouds comin'" part, instead of the song ending, it leads right into a coda with a reprise, the "watching my TV" part. There was nothing like that on DGSS. No surprises. It's just very straightforward songwriting, and these little flourishes makes me appreciate Noel's music that much more.

Anyone reckon it was the labels decision to release this as the first single or Noels own decision?
The people on here that think its 'Noel-by-numbers' and a bit plain and boring, I get the feeling that was the whole intention, they wanted to play it safe with the first single. Going by the sound of the songs Noel played in soundchecks there's gonna a lot of other tracks that will probably be more 'interesting' to people, but not necessarily 'radio friendly' (by todays standards that is).
This really is what it is, a solid, not too different, uptempo tune that works as a first single...

I really liked it! Like others I just kept smiling the whole way through, I feel it's got a cheekiness to it. Fell asleep like 30 minutes before it was going to premiere, rushed to my laptop when I woke up and was so ecstatic! Really made my day. Can't wait for High Flying Birds!
