personally, i think beady eye shouldn't play any oasis songs, regardless of who wrote them. at least on this tour. they're making a name for themselves and should stay away from the oasis name. they need to come into their own a little more. on the other hand, i think noel can and should play oasis songs. they're his songs, and he's not trying to shy away from the "oasis" name. he's not forming a new group. he's just playing as "noel gallagher." paul mccartney is the best example of this, i think. when he was touring in the 70s with wings, he consciously stayed away from most of his beatles songs. he was trying to go away from the beatle stigma. when he went solo, he had more freedom to play any song of his he wanted as he wasn't trying to create a new image. I know nothing about music industry. So copyright is decided by author? If the writer is Noel, even the song is on an Oasis album, does he still have exclusive right to the song? personally, I prefer new things. that depends on the song and/or the agreement about the copyright. usually, it's the songwriter who gets the copyright for it. however, lennon and mccartney had a contractual agreement that would credit them both for whatever songs they wrote under the beatles name (even if one of them had nothing to do with a particular song). depending on the contract a band or songwriter signs with management and/or their label, the songwriters may not own the rights to their songs at all. sometimes they license them as well.

The times changed a lot between 2003 and 2008 as well. The Songbird video was on all the music channels heaps before it was released as a single. The only places I've ever seen the I'm Outta Time video are the oasis site, iTunes and the Time Flies DVD. That might be the fact that I'm not a lazy student bum like I was when Songbird was released as well though That is also true, but irrelevant. It wasn't well received and isn't a classic, regardless of the circumstances. Some of Ian Brown's solo stuff pisses all over the Stone Roses, but he'll always be known for the Roses and FEAR.

Good song as it is, I find FEAR to be grossly overrated. I much prefer Keep What You Got

I think that, if Noel ever gets this album out(!!), he should play the songs on the new album along with a FEW Oasis songs. He should play the classics like DLBIA + IOBI and perhaps throw in one or two lesser known songs that he doesn't play live like POTQ or She Is Love

There's absolutely no reason why Noel should turn his back on a body of work that he has built up over the last twenty years, especially when it has sound-tracked the lives of millions. But he needs to think carefully about how he works out a setlist when he comes to go out on the road as a solo artist. Knowing Noel he won't be interested in dropping back to a tour of clubs and small venues, he's always had his eyes set on, and taken inspiration from, stadiums and big arenas, so I'm sure he'll be thinking about retaining a set which still contains Don't Look Back In Anger, Importance Of Being Idle, Half The World Away etc, to keep a grandiose feel to his gigs, but it could work against his solo career if he does.
All the questions surrounding Beady Eye when they first started was, why aren't you going to play any Oasis songs? What if the crowd chant for Oasis songs? But by avoiding any of that, as they rightly did, they ensured they would be judged as a viable new band. Whether reviews were good, bad or in-different, the very least they got was a focus on Beady Eye and, when it came down to the gigs, not on a glorious past. Even though I'm not much of a fan of the album, they did at least quickly forge their own future by leaving the past behind.
Noel's obviously going to want his new solo album to be the prime focus, but if he combines it with some old Oasis classics, as he's fully entitled to do, then he risks becoming the Oasis tribute, rather than Beady Eye. So while I'd love to see Noel ring out the classics, as I think he has earned the right to, I think he'd be best to leave them behind at least for the time being and instead use the opportunity to air some forgotten gems - (D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman and Take Me Away please Noel), that way he can celebrate his own amazing achievements and still keep the emphasis on where he is now.

can't really blame him for making that decision. if he didn't play Oasis songs, he'd struggle probably a lot more than Beady Eye when it comes to touring.

Well we definitely know that he'll being doing better than BDI now. But I think that he'd have done at least as well as BDI either way. Frankly his album is still probably gonna be mega.
And he would have been doing better even if BDI had played their own Oasis songs.
I wish he hadn't. But it's his choice really. Just hope he isn't gonna play the obvious ones.

On the contrary, I'm glad that he chose to do some Oasis songs because I never got to see Oasis live and thus never got a change to see the songs performed. Will most likely be WW, DLBIA, SA and LU among others.

But I think that he'd have done at least as well as BDI either way. of course you would think that... lol fanboyism is so pathetic. the fact of the matter is there is no way to know for sure, but it is very telling that Noel said from the get-go that he'll be doing Oasis songs. it just makes it seem like he's unsure of his upcoming LP and how it'll be received.

I think Noel was completely honest when he said that he likes playing those songs and they're like drugs to him. If he enjoys it, then that's the whole point of it.
Probably he's not thinking it strategically for his career, just doing what he wants, which is great.
