I'm sure if Noel saw all this bitching about him he would laugh and think "what idiots". I find it to be pure entertainment. Arguing over our savior Are we bitching. Of all the thread about Noel...Noel isn't coming off too bad in this one. Don't get your panties in a bunch. I never said Noel was coming off bad. If you know how Noel is then I think you would understand he would find this rather assuming and silly. But this is a good thing, all that Beady Eye shit has worn off.

So in less than a day we've managed to receive conflicting and confusing information from sourmash than what we've heard earlier...is Noel no longer working with the AA sessions at all? Are they officially scrapped? Then what the heck was Noel (re)mixing in LA with Sardy? Is he going to have to re-record the album?
With all of these unanswered questions we're no further along in knowing the progress of this album than we were a few days ago.

Now Noel is remixing in LA with Sardy and AA. Sourmash then said that his sources seem doubtful that we would ever hear those session. Presumably they aren't confident that the remixing will work and the sessions will have to be scrapped.

The fact that he said "AA's reworking of it" makes it sound like there was already an established album ready to go before AA even touched the project. So assuming the AA sessions do get scratched, the question becomes whether Noel will have to do any actual re-recording.

I think its pompous, overproduced, and completely shit. The early version (It's A Crime) is at least honest. And Record Machine is dad rock at its finest. Its the first cousin of Force of Nature. Pompous? Overproduced? It's as stripped-down as possible. Especially the middle part sung by Noel alsways gets to me. De gustibus et coloribus... Yes, its pompous and overproduced, when at its core its a simple song that didn't need what they added to it. The back and forth between Noel and Liam on that song felt forced rather than natural. Unlike Acquiesce which came across as completely genuine and is a bonafide classic. And no, there's no accounting for taste when music is subjective, you're entitled to think otherwise. As for Record Machine, we don't know the exact reason why it was scrapped other than a castoff quote of "Liam went to get married". The first mention of it being on DOYS was over a year before DOYS was finally released. It was never mentioned again other that initial interview. We know it was recorded during DBTT sessions as we have that version. Stop the Clocks is also a plodding bore. There is absolutely nothing in that song as it currently stands. Throwing the kitchen sink at it isnt going to make it better. Its lyrically stilted and a boring melody, as we know it now. I have no problem being proven otherwise by Noel and he ends up turning either of those into classics, however, I'd much rather hear him do something new as the chances of them being radically different is not very high. The basics of those songs arent going to change much. AATW is according to Noel basically the same as his original acoustic version he did years before it finally saw light on BHN. And LTBL and Its A Crime aren't much different bar the full production. I dont see a choir, orchestra, and bombastic BHN-style bullshit improving a song that at its core is not all that interesting.

Well you can say LTBL is pompous and overproduced all you want, it doesn't feel like that to me. I even heard many people regretting that Noel hadn't done anything "bigger" with the song... I also was dissapointed with STC when I first heard it, and even though it has grown on me, I still don't think it's "the best song he's ever written" (didn't Noel stated that somewhere?) by far. Record Machine however is a TUNE! I really hope this one ends up on his album, especially the second part of the song is brilliant!

I only ask because anytime Noel or Liam is asked about the work they do it's always "The best thing ever". Its a way to blow off reporters. The thing about Stop the Clocks was that it was so built up to these mythical levels and the payoff wasn't anywhere near that. Its the same as Liam stating that Beady Eye was as good as anything Oasis did, or on Definitely Maybe levels. Every album cycle Noel and Liam would tout that. They only time they didn't was DOYS because they were embargoed from speaking about it apparently. Everyone was surprised during the lead up to DOYS that no one was saying a word aside from those very early (year prior) interviews that mentioned Record Machine as some 10 minute long beast, that was reprinted ad nauseam by other publications in the lead up to the release. If Stop The Clocks just appeared as a some random b-side in the HC or DBTT era, no one would've given two shits about it.

Yeah indeed, I didn't really meant anything by it: it was just something random I remembered, because it made me very excited to hear that song. That's why when I heard it I was disappointed. I actually agree with you on this one, and don't really care much for it either. (Except the ending ;-)) But I'm still very excited about Record Machine, I really think this could turn out in something rather brilliant.

Until it is or isnt confirmed for any sort of release, I would just forget about it. I have learned the hard way not to get my hopes up for these "long lost" tunes of Oasis'. They tend to disappoint. They made the right decision leaving off the versions from the DBTT sessions IMO. The last time Record Machine was mentioned as the "epic" that people describe was January 2007 in NME, which was reprinted by the Daily Star closer to the DOYS release. Since then, its not been mentioned or rumored by anyone and the outtake from the DBTT session that we all have now leaked. Its been more than 4 years since it was mentioned.
