It does remind me of Hung In A Bad Place in a way. The vocal melody therefore looks like a typical Gem melody. Try to sing the chorus of HUABP right after 'look away and it's gone'. Am i the only one hearing this? Another critical point: the transition from the massive into into the first verse sounds forced. As if they had the intro tune and some verse lines and they decided to find a way to blend them together. So, mixed feelings. Plus point are the vicious lyrics and vocals from Liam, the guitar noise and the brilliant repeating (intro) tune. i dont' hear that crappy song either. And i think the drop from the intro into the first verse is pretty awesome.

Verdict from my old man (old 60s Doors / Who rocker who looks like Dave Gilmour now):
"It's really good - not kind of memorable like those early <Oasis> ones... but it's a good back to basics rock song like the other new one <Bring The Light>. Good guitar sounds"

It's pretty good. I wasn't enamoured with the clip and the song is alright...not a massive step up for me. Like it more than BTL. Wonder it every BDI song is gonna ramble a bit towards the end though? Still not liking the vocal. Was always more looking forward to the Roller. I got a bit into this because I found the possibilities for the lyrics more engaging than the music Only listened to it once so far as I am at work though. Maybe I'm just missing what you all are creaming yourselves over because my speaker suck? Spot on... I thought it was ok but when I looked at all these posts about how life changing this song was I started questioning if i heard the right song.. Weird enough I kinda agree with its just noise

The song is good, not great by any strectch but good. Parts of it is just noise. The hook/chorus does take a bit to sink in, but I really wasnt listening to the lyrics on my listens so there you go. Drums were okay, the riff is okay. The riff repeats almost too much for me. Liam's voice is pretty good. Not impressed by the solo like some are. The solo is okay. Also I think melodically it gets kinda lost around the mid part, and I'm not big on the outro.
Its a good back to basics track and a good opener. I dont know why some are saying the best opener since R N' RS. I think Hello is better and so is Turn Up The Sun, and DYKWIM (even though it never gets to the point). I'm with GDForever, really dont see why people are creaming over it, but hey to each his/her own. Like I said, its a good opener and its good song. Good, not great. For me, its a 3/5.

I'm on my 4th listen and my opnion is pretty much the same. I wish I could be as excited as everyone else, but to me its just a slightly above average song.

I too think that oasis had better openers. In fact, every single one was better except for Turn up the sun which is on par. I agree that the solo isn't that good. It sounds forced. Doesn't quite blend in with the melody. But that doesn't make it a bad tune. Actually is great and works perfectly as an opener. And remember it's not a single so it only can mean good things.

^^I never said it was bad. I said it was slightly above average. I also said it was good for an opener. The only point I was making was that I dont think its "mega" or the shit. lol

It's not better than any of the Oasis albums first tracks, but it's a nice song.
Yeah, it's not MEGA, but sounds good enough.

Vocals aside, the only problem I have with it is it's structure. The solo doesn't pack any punch because it shouldn't really be there. I always expect it to go back to the first verse but we get that unmemorable solo instead.

Rock has no rules, who are you to say that "the solo" shouldn't be there? Are u the worlds best producer? Some of you make no sense. Its a "fuckin song"! Its not curing world hunger for fucksakes.

i like it, can't really rate it yet, not in a way that would be fair to the song or to past Oasis albums openers. All i know is it's a good song and it's a million times better than Bring The Shite...

Totally agree with this, we only get one verse before Liam wanders around the studio looking for his tambourine and the first solo is pretty average. Still think it's a good song though.

I think he's sounded better on record in recent years. But then from the clips this didn't seem to be one of his best vocals on the album...so I am hoping for some better ones.

I think spaneli's dead on here. 3/5 is definitely right. Not terrible, but not great by any stretch of the imagination.

i understand why everyone is trying to compare it to other oasis openers, but its not oasis. its a solid song, its of course not as good as rnrs or dykwim but i think its just as good as bag it up and its better then hindu times. its a solid tune written by beady eye not oasis. you cant compare lennon and mccartney solo stuff to the beatles, or keith richards solo stuff to the stones. its beady eye not oasis

Every Oasis album had a great opener - Hindu Times was great, Turn up the Sun was awesome live!
This is a good song but not great - I still think that this will be something like the 7th/8th best song on the album
