To keep the trend that has developed over the last 4 years, here's the official Arsenal thread.

Let's hope that Man Utd and Chelsea are weaker this season. I'm predicting a draw against Liverpool.

I love this thread. NL4E's knee jerks are a pleasure to read every season. Anyway, I think they'll come 3rd. Comfortable CL place but not a hope of winning anything.

A draw away to Liverpool isn't a bad result. But that performance was insipid to say the least....

Good old Paul Merson
'Get Ngog off and Torres on cos the Arsenal defence are not worried about him as he keeps running offside'
58 secs later Ngog lashes 1 in!!

Good performance from the lads today, but it was against Blackpool after all. Some good goals and good play. Should have been even more than 6, if we're being honest. Welcome to the Premier League, Blackpool.

I know it was Braga, but that was still some champagne football. Wilshire looked immense, and Cesc as classy as ever. Top stuff.

We were poor today, but the second goal was Almunia's fault. And so was the penalty he gave away (the save was only a result of a poor penalty). He is a clown, and I'm now really really angry at Wenger. Today showed EXACTLY WHY WE ALL WANTED A NEW KEEPER THIS SUMMER
FFS WENGER. AND FFS ARSENAL. We had a chance to catch up with Chelsea today, and blew it. What a bunch of mugs.

And he was at fault for the 3rd.
GTFO Almunia

I won't lie - Arsenal's performance was uninspiring at times vs. Partizan. But we were still the better team over 90mins, and got the job done, so no real complaints. Our defense looks woeful, although I do like young Gibbs....

2-0 loss vs. Chelsea - I think the result was an injustice as I thought we played pretty well (barring Arshavin, who was sleepy as usual). We clawed 11points back last season, so there's plenty of football to be played, but I don't see this team seriously challenging.....

That result was anything but an 'injustice'. Did you actually watch the game?

That result was anything but an 'injustice'. Did you actually watch the game? The late flurry of chances by Chelsea do not count as the game was over by then and Arsenal knew it. The offside goal doesn't count either, cos it was, erm offside. Arsenal outplayed Chelsea for the entire game, and footballing wise were the better side. The difference was Chelsea were clinical and effective and took their chances, while Arsenal were wasteful. We could have easily been 1-0 up within 30 seconds. If only. There was nothing wrong with Arsenal's performance - bar sleepy Arshavin and one or two defensive mishaps aside. If we played like that vs. WBA, we would have crushed them. On the contrary, if we played liked we did last weekend vs. Chelsea and lost, you would be reading one of my infamous rants. Arsenal were fine today, but just not clinical enough in the final third. A draw would have been a fair result.

Another well deserved win for the arsenal. Szczesny looked immense.

Szczesny did look incredible tonight - fingers crossed this goalkeeping 'crisis' we are apparently having is nothing, what with Fabianski's excellent performances over the past couple of weeks and of course the potential of Szczesny.
Don't see the point in keeping Almunia, as he will most definitely want to move if he doesn't get first team football. I would give it till January to see how it develops - i.e. if Fabianski can maintain his form. If he does, then I don't think the goalkeeping issue should be a worry then.
If Arsenal can keep the major players injury free (and it's a big if judging by how injury prone the team seem to be at the moment), then I think we will certainly be serious contenders. If not, they'll still be there or thereabouts but like previous seasons, so near yet so far.
Saying that, I am optimistic.
