Been giving the album a listen this last few days and I honestly can't believe how bad it is! I honestly can't see there being many more Arctic monkeys albums after this! The songs are just kind of dull. You expect them to build but they never do. I guess it's one of the albums that sounds better when you blast it in your car or something. One more bad album and I won't be a fan. But we still have the first two classic albums to listen to so I'm not going to fret it.

I thought FWN was better than Whatever People Say, but Humbug is by far their worst and by quite a distance

I'm not too sure that they'll get a number 1 album...... Look at most of the reviews on this forum! I'm going to go with that number for now and see what happens when this mediocre album is released.

I thought FWN was better than Whatever People Say, but Humbug is by far their worst and by quite a distance I totally agree with you here. On the first album he is literally running out of breath trying to sing. On the second album he seems to have a little less passion but he makes up for it with his lyrics. I think he might be getting big headed and thinks he is Jim Morrison from the doors or something. I'm not buying it.

Count the numbers again, you're in the vast minority on this one. I don't think anymore than 3 people - at most - like this album on this forum. So if both our numbers are right, extrapolate 10-3 in favor of not liking the album to the general public? Yeah, pretty shitty stats, innit. ---- Dance Little Liar is the only half decent song that's worth repeating on the album My Propeller? How fucking boring can you get. Not only is Turner's voice dull as fuck, but his lyrics are so pointless. Dangerous Animals? FFS. Everything about this album is just shit.

The Drowned In Sound review said it's not an album that would appeal to Oasis fans.

A group of 10 people on an internet forum do not indicate how popular an album will be. Seriosuly, we understand your point of veiw on the album; are you really doing anything but detract from your argument with these constant posts? You write like your opinion's are clear fact. I think that Alex has got one of the most distinctive and best vocal styles in rock. And I have no idea how an Oasis fan can call Turner's lyrics 'pointless' without descending into hypocrisy. As much as I think Noel is a god; Alex's lyrics are far more unique and interesting.

I'm amazed there's 9 pages devoted to this thread, i like one of their songs, 'when the sun goes down', haven't really heard too much else besides the dancefloor song which isn't that good.

Having my first listen to the album, and fuck me, I'm almost as bored listening to it as it sounds Alex Turner must have been recording it. The songs are barely distinguishable from one another - not a new trick by any means, but one which perhaps they'd have gotten away with had the songs not been so interminably fucking dull to kick off with.
If the critics really are affording this album top marks, then they need their fucking ears cleaned.

I wish DOYS was as lyrically amazing as Humbug!

I wish DOYS was as lyrically amazing as Humbug! As is often with someone with terrible arguing skills you've used the two worst examples from the album to try to prove your point. Admittedly the whole DANGEROUSANIMALS thing is cringe-worthy but you've picked the absolute two worst examples as though they sum up the whole album. It's like judging the entire quality of DOYS on Ain't Got Nothing and The Nature of Reality, which I sort of expected from you. Alex Turner writes extremely clever, imaginative and visually striking words. He doesn't repeat the same phrases over and over ("shine", "soul"), he doesn't work in cliches; he presents a story and does it in a very wry, well-put way. He also doesn't need to steal lyrics off of other artists. The lyrics are where he's really talented; far from "pointless". As I've said, in an attempt to give yourself a bit of credibility you've used the worst two examples to use as your whole point. Listen to the lyrics of "Crying Lightning", "Cornerstone" or "Pretty Visitors" if you need proof that Alex writes excellent and very distinctive lyrics. He's like a storyteller with his lyrics; no he might not write an "anthem" everytime but knows how to write a damn interesting story.

Although I haven't actually heard anything off Humbug except Crying Lightning, waiting for the CD, but seriously, you can't compare Noel's lyrics to Alex Turner's, Turner is in another universe and I'm pretty sure Noel would admit as much. Of course, he doesn't have Noel's gift for melody, but thats another thing all together.

Turner is in another universe and I'm pretty sure Noel would admit as much. I doubt it. Turner's alright for clever turns of phrase and that, but he's hardly got a Live Forever in him, has he? The majority of his first album was about flagging taxis and spotting birds in nightclubs.

The majority of his first album was about flagging taxis and spotting birds in nightclubs. Then the second album just seemed a bit random. Teddy Piceker and stuff.
